Subject: Queen of Argyle From: GUEST,Håvard Date: 08 Mar 00 - 04:50 AM Hi We've been asked to come up with a slogan for our (University) pub, and I was thinking about an old Silly Wizard song. Think Andy M. wrote it himself - it's called "The Queen of Argyle" The phrase I would like to use is something like: "... a place of Cheers, Håvard |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Queen of Argyle From: Alan of Australia Date: 08 Mar 00 - 06:38 AM G'day, It's in the DT, click here. The author isn't mentioned here, or on the Best of Silly Wizard LP I have, but I thought it was written by Andy M. We saw him performing twice last weekend & met him afterwards. Great performance, including The Queen of Argyll.

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Queen of Argyle From: GUEST,Håvard Date: 08 Mar 00 - 09:37 AM I envy you Alan - I've heard him a few times as well, but it's been a few years now. Does he still sing the hilarious "Errant Apprentice"? Håvard |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Queen of Argyle From: Mbo Date: 08 Mar 00 - 11:03 AM MAN! I love this song! He did a absolutely RULING rendition of it with Gerry O'Beirne at Wolftrap in '96, I think. I do my best imitation of Andy on this song, especially the little growly things he does! --Mbo |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Queen of Argyle From: Clinton Hammond2 Date: 08 Mar 00 - 11:57 AM Dan et all... Anyone who downloaded the MP3... are they singing "And the marble in her smile"??? Since when did she have false teeth? What was wrong with "Morning in her smile"??? I've heard of libertys taken with lyrics, but to change them so they don't make sence??? One would not presume to rewrite Shakespear...

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Queen of Argyle From: Sabra Date: 08 Mar 00 - 12:24 PM Oh I LOVE this song!!! In answer to the original question: "A place of noble thinkers, of scholars and great drinkers, but above them all for splendor shone the Queen of all Argyll" And it just has to be "the mornin' in her smile" Karla |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE QUEEN OF ALL ARGYLE From: Gypsy Date: 08 Mar 00 - 09:37 PM Here 'tis, from the book:
Gentlemen, it is my duty to inform you of one beauty,
And if you could have seen her there, boys, if you had just been there,
On the evening that I mentioned, I passed with light intention,
So, my lads, I needs must leave you. My intention's not to grieve you, This is a real favorite to play. Andy has a book out, with several really top-notch songs, I highly recommend popping for the 20$ and getting it. It also has "If I were a Blackbird" and the "Loch Tay Boat song" which we also love

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Queen of Argyle From: Gypsy Date: 08 Mar 00 - 09:52 PM Ugh! I obviously need education! I typed the above out so that it is singable, and it didn't work that way. Sorry, you can pretty much use the commas as a period |
