Just heard! Altan will be featured on PHC this week. Should be great! I got to see them live in 1988/or 89 and it was fantastic; bought their frist and second tapes, all that were available at the time.

Thanks - I saw then a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed them quite a bit. Their new CD was excellent also,in my opinion. I'll listen for them this weekend.

I caught the end of their set at the North Texas Irish Festival in March and was really impressed. Damn ... they were good ... moonchild

Sorry about that, Jake. Glad to help out, though I just found out, by checking the website for PHC, that this will be a rebroadcast of a program in April of 1998. They are still great!

I am delighted you all are looking forward to this and thanks for checking this thread. I haven't heard them since Frankie Kennedy died in 1994, but I understand they are still really wonderful.

I was lucky, the one and only time i got to see them was in an old wooden church whihc had been converted into a performing arts center in Westerly, Rhode Island. The acoustic and ambiance were just perfect; just the right size for an intimate evening between them and the audience. (Much more so than the time I was lucky enough to see the Chieftains at UMASS-Amherst...huge auditorium, where we perched up high in the cheaper seats, still grand, though.:-) Altan came down and mingled, signed autographs, and sold casette tapes between sets. I cannot remember if it was '89 or '89, but I was in heaven that night.

I was able to see them in Fairfax last March. I was amazed at the music. I was also amazed at the whole place throbbing in time with the music during the fast songs. So many people were stomping their feet that the songs that the whole floor was moving. It was both scary (what's supporting the floor?) and exilerating.
