3,500 miles South-SouthEast from London; Thessaloniki, or Salonika, is the "second city" of Greece, the capital of Greek Macedonia and a major port in the Med.

SO - a Greek Macedonian. Except for 1/32nd Roma, from the Vlach tribe (I think they were the sheppards).

Born in Viareggio on the coast of Tuscany, lived in Florence until ten years ago when I moved to a town nearby, Barberino di Mugello, well known for the long queues in the motorway, for its delightful Tortelli di Patate and for the tradition of the "Maggiaioli" (May singers".
All this in Italy, of course...

Born in St. Louis but grew up in West Africa, which I still think of as "home" in the sense of where am I from. However, I have now lived in central VA since 1985, and consider it "home" in the sense of where do I live - and plan to live. My genes are 75% Eastern Europe, and 25% "American" via (by name) Hughenot France way back in 174x, and (in the interim) a Cherokee woman 6 generations back. I'm also half Jewish and half Quaker: Mom grew up an ethnically Hungarian Serb in Yugoslavia, and was liberated from Auschwitz the day before turning 16. Dad grew up a Philly-area Quaker with a Russian mother, conscientiously objected to WWII, then went to France to write about Existentialism. They met in Paris, soon after the war.

I'm from Mayne Island BC ( 1/2 way between Vancouver and Victoria Pop. 600-800).We have 2 stores, 1 gas station, 2 hotels and a school to gr.8 (High School by water taxie to Saltspring Is.) Lots of talent, good musicians and singers, and a great theater group. Very peaceful and quiet.(especially now that the tourists have gone away!) Worst thing about living here is relying on the BC Ferries for transport. I have spent "many years" waiting for ferries. Check out www.mayneisland.com (our community) for a better idea.

Hey, you guys, be careful with your blue clickys. Somebody left out the closing quote marks in a link, and locked the thread. Quotes aren't needed if you're doing just a simple link - but if you use quotes, you have to both open and close them within the link. I fixed the offending link, but won't identify the guilty party.

Parson....Welcome to the Mudcat!!! Are you gettin' rich or has all the gold panned itself out. (Been through there a time or two)

Yeah, I'll hit it again........I live in Bremen, Ohio, about 45 miles southeast of Columbus in the center of the state. I was born in Tuscarawas County over in the hills of eastern Ohio and moved to the 'burbs of Columbus at age 12. Went to Berea College in Kentucky and came back to the Columbus area. At age 30, I went to work for a company that moved me a lot and if I wasn't moving, I was flying around the country somewhere. In the process I lived in Somerset,KY--Chattanooga,TN--Cincinnati,OH--Charlotte,NC--Chicago,IL--Nashville,TN--Atlanta,GA....where I married Karen, quit, and came back to Ohio........How I wound up in Bremen is beyond me, but its a nice little town with lots of trees, brick streets, 12 streets altogether, no traffic lights, and a village oddball...which turned out to be me.

Spaw

Good idea to include a link to a site with some photos. This is one out of many sites where you can see a bit of Buenos Aires:Click here

This is a city of 12.2 million people where we have to drive an hour to see a live chicken. And to see a cow with no advertising signs, it is two hours.

I don't know about "mullet-headed" although I seem to have dated a few local greaseballs! They seemed to be rather red in the neck, too...
But you know, if LH cut his hair, he'd be a classic example of "mullet-headed greaseball". Caw, caw!!!

Barrie is OK but I wouldn't want to spend a month's vacation there...

I'd spend it at home in McDonalds Corners, ON, one hour west of Ottawa.

I'm originally from Gloucester ON, Ottawa's poor cousin eastern suburb.

Spiritual/ancestral homes in New Brunswick and Scotland (never been to the latter).
