This just in.

Officials at the Red Cross announce that a new strategy has been found to overcome the tragic trend toward war at the Mudcat Cafe, an international scene of longstanding strife.

The Red Cross is recommending that in any discussion, to keep all sides at peace, albeit an uneasy one, thoughtful participants need only inseert either or both of these words, or a variant thereof, in each paragraph posted:

[music]

[BS]

Said Danisha Dogooder, an official spokepserson of the Red Cross in Wangdonesia, "It turned out to be a simple thing anyone could have thought of! Just think the bloodshed that can be avoided now! Let the healing begin!"

Participants were doubtful, at press time, that the problem could be solved in any fashion, much less by an idea so slight as to nearly escape attention.

However, said Ms. Dogooder, "You have to try it to see how powerfully it can work. We realize that it's greatest impact will only be possible when used by creative-minded people of vision, but it is a tool that can't help but improve things even in the hands of complete.... I'm sorry, we here at the Red Cross haven't come up yet with a word that means [idiots] but is universally acceptable. We are still working on that one!"

The Red Cross received a large grant to study this problem, but promises to donate any profits accumulating as a result to the Cafe for its ongoing humanitarian work toward peace in our time in all the world's trouble spots.

Whoops! I misread it! I thought it said:

Ms. Dog Odour!!

There already is an acceptable alternative word for 'idiot' - it's 'Mudcatter'! ;-)

Owch! Gerroff!

Bernard has no right to equate "idiot" with "Mudcatter."

Reading through these forums, it is quite obvious that Mudcatters are not idiots. In fact, Mudcatters know everything about everything, are smarter than anyone else, and have nothing to learn from non-Mudcatters.

'Ere, GUEST Fred! What's this 'equate' business?
As a Mudcatter I have every right (and left!) to air my opinion.

I am both a Mudcatter, and a fully paid-up idiot, so I am in a good position to recognise these 'qualities' in my fellow Mudcatters!

Wot sez you, Sugar Dog?!!

We have a really remarkable site here as it is. Expecting that this extensive a community would always get along is ludicrous. I wish we could be a little gentler in our disagreements, but at the same time, we're a very large and diverse group. Truth be told if we all thought the same way, there would not be much need to come here. And when we did it would be boring. I think what we need to do is to learn to make a statement of disagreement without it being an attack. And for the most part we can, but with this many people feeling strongly about so many subjects it can steamroll into something ugly over days or even hours. I hate to bring up the "Gypsy"threads again but they saw Áine and Joe Offer at each other's virtual throats as well as Brendy, InOBU and a whole slew of others who normally get along at least civilly on the verge of longterm hatred with each other. And if you go back and read over the history of these members postings you see they are all kind, decent well-meaning people normally. It just takes a spark and one person not willing to let it drop and a thread goes off to the races. The catch 22 is that this stems from the fact that we police ourselves. There is no outside authority keeping us in check. Max has the resources to do so but wisely leaves it to us. That we agree to disagree is fundamental to what makes this place so amazing.

Siochán daoibh (Peace to you),
Rich

No need to fix anything. Works fine the way it is. Read what interests you, ignore that which doesn't, don't try to make it in your image just accept it as it is.

Kevin, it was a woof, staccato, of course. Sugar Dog is so full of music and BS, she don't hafta say so. Sometime she howl? AHHHWR-OOOOO!

Iffen you don't know Sugar Dog, see Mudcat Tavern 2, the last few days or so, iffen yuh want to know her better. Includes all manner of music and BS, and a link to a Sugar Dog pic, an approximation. This Sugar Dog a lil bigger, but go figure.

Bernard, I don't understand you, are you a saint?

Praise, I would have appreciated it if you had labelled this thread as BS:

Max's BS filter works very effectively if regulars have the consideration to spend a few seconds before creating a thread title.

Regards, John

and to repeat what i just wrote on another thread,

"......i would just like the thread labels to be more clear than tantalizing. a combination of the two would be also acceptable.

i know that some people here consider the mudcat their home away from home, but some of us just want to stop by for occasional refreshment, and prefer the thread titles to read like a restaurant menu rather than a game-show of what's behind door # 1, #2, #3....."

black walnut,

If I had labeled this as BS, would you have come in to post?

Would you have had an opportunity to notice that someone had taken a lighthearted run at defusing the feelings people slosh around here so seriously that no one can even think about the issue clearly anymore?

Did you pause to try what was suggested?

Did you let the humor in at all?

Would you have had a chance to reiterate your position one more time?

Are you posting this in ALL non-music threads that YOU have decided are non-music?

Do you not notice the many threads I HAVE created with BS or other prefixes, and do you not appreciate that I may have had a reason you failed to appreciate for titling this as I did?

Do you not believe someone might possibly have a clue about how to get along in a forum, in a way different than you know, and might you consider that your way is not only not the only way, but perhaps not the best way?

Have you seen the threads I have created about being more thoughtful in the whole area of music vs. non-music, as though they have to be versus at all? Have you seen me write from YOUR side of the issue?

If the answer to some of these is yes, then I am bafffled at your action in this thread. And if it is no, may I respectfully suggest that you do some reading of my posts over the last few months and see if I am truly your opponent in this matter.

(John and I have addressed this effectively elsewhere.)

~Susan

Sorry to be a disappointment, but I leave songwriting to them wot can do it!

However:

Mah laigs is short and stumpy
You oughta hear the sound
As I walk, I drag my rumpy
Chuff-a-chuff along the ground
Mah friends all walk much quicker
Coz their laigs are oh, so lawng
Ah hate to hear them snicker
Which is why ah sing this sawng...

Cain't do the accent, either!

Reckon yer'd 'ave a proper job on tryin' fer't avva do at mine, tha'nose!

BTW - I thought the threadname made it pretty obvious what it was going to be about - there are clues called 'words' which a text-based discussion forum uses as its means of communication...

Maybe someone should start a thread specifically for people who feel the need to complain about everything - or would that spoil their fun instead?! >:O)

Here's the deal, see... if the post title interests you, but the first post does not, then exit the thread. I do it on a regular basis. No big deal. It's as easy as turning off TV when there's nothing but reruns. :)

Howzzat? Needs another verse, Bernard, you're doing great! Are my little changes OK from your view? If not, go ahead an edit! How about a title?

A good variant if anyone isoffended by stumpy and rumpy would be stumbly and rumbly, eh? The folk tradition!

black walnut, I don't feel that way at all. Eventually, I believe, we will communicate effectively. Prolly not today though. My fault, too.

Oops! I left BS out of my paragraphs. Maybe Joe Offer or a clone will add them for me.

Ah think Ah has the answer
To fix mah little plight
I could walk upon mah hands, sir
But Ah'd look a sorry sight
The folks all passing by me
Would collapse upon the floor
As mah butt is awful stinky
Which is why Ah sings once more

You may think me pernickerty
You may think me too loud
You may try hard to picture me
You won't spot me in a crowd
Unless you help me strengthen
Mah image, for a start
But most of all, please lengthen
Mah laigs before I cough...

It's nearly midnight over here, and I've an early start in the morning...

But I shall return!!!

Spooky coincidence - my 'little' (48!) sister is called Susan! Well, Susan Elizabeth to be precise!

Have a look at my website -

Jesus, we fight over whether or not to fight! I don't think there is anybody on this forum who finds every single thread interesting (cept' maybe Spaw) Read the stuff you want. Post to the stuff that you have something to say about. Pass over the stuff you don't find interesting. If you are so deviously "tricked" into opening a thread that doesn't suit you, you can usually tell within the first couple of posts.
I'm a percussionist. I don't really have much use for an indepth discussion of diminished 7th chords and alternate ways to play them so I don't spend a whole lot of time on such threads and usually don't post to them unless it creeps towards something I can share about. I certainly wouldn't complain about them being here.

Rich
