Subject: RE: Samhain-pronunciation From: Mikey joe Date: 23 Oct 00 - 07:08 AM It's pronounced as described above, Samhain is actually the Irish for Hallowe'en though Loretta. Mí na Samhain is the Irish for November. As I said this is the Irish explaination. It may be different in Scots Gaelic , Welsh or Breton as while these are all celtic countries there is no language called celtic. They are similar in some ways with the exception of welsh which is as similar to Irish or Scots Gaelic as Mandarin Chinese is to Welsh. Hope this is of benefit. But they are all different languages. |

Subject: RE: Samhain-pronunciation From: sian, west wales Date: 23 Oct 00 - 07:35 AM Just as a rider to Mikey Joe ... Oct. 31 in Wales is Noson Galan Gaeaf, the Eve of Winter's First Day. Welsh, Breton and Cornish are very similar and of the same branch of Celtic languageS; Scottish, Irish and Manx are the other branch. Welsh and Irish Gaelic are quite dissimilar but there are still quite a few words which are recognizable. sian |
