Subject: Lyr Add: THE MURDER O' THE COUNTY DOWN (RM Graham) From: Max Tone Date: 30 Oct 00 - 09:27 AM Thyme2dream, Calach et al, Loose ends tidied up after 3 weeks of fiddling wi' the wurds. Rob THE MURDER O' THE COUNTY DOWN. (Copyright 10/10/00, Rob Maxtone Graham.) In a bar in a town, in a county down in the depths o' oor rural shires, Ye'll hear a chap that's soundin' crap, like the muckin' o' Geordie's byre. He'll try tha' singin', but his voice is hingin'. He cannae remember the tune. Sae ye heid tae the bar fer anither jar, as he starts oan the County Down. Tae Botany Bay or Barlinnie, Peterheid or Perth's fair town. He'll hae porrige a' his days in the H-block Maze fer'th' murder o' the County Down. As ye do the rounds o' the festival towns, An' ye session in yer fav'rite bars. Yer startin' a tune, when intae the room, comes the boy wha' sings oot his arse. He stumbles in wi' a crashin' din, an' ye hope that he winnae sit down. But he's here tae stay, an' then he says "I'll gie ye the County Down" He starts richt away wi' his terrible bray, an' ye think aboot leavin' soon. Half the words he missed, 'cos he's three parts pissed, an' ye ken that yer session's doomed. Two pipes he's smoked, four joints he's toked, five pints an' three hash browns! He lost the tone 'cos he was so stoned, as he murdered the County Down. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: MURDER o' The COUNTY DOWN From: Max Tone Date: 04 Nov 00 - 05:42 PM Thanks, all, Of course, Soddy, spread the word -- I'm most honoured! Check out Calach's "Yellow on the Broom" parody thread, also Andy MacKean's "Fields of Athenry", as well as Crawford Howard and Fintan Valaly's "Willie Mcbride" (in the DT - and the song that led to Andy's Athenry, and thence to all the others). Sorry, I ain't worked out how to save multiple Blickies, yet, and my clipboard's got my new one on it! (see below) Try this new one -- Blicky Rob |

I had just posted MaxT a bit ago on another thread tellin him that even way out here in "Kansas, America" County Down was overdone...I'm from over Topeka way, and have enjoyed The Euphoria String Band when I've heard you play! |
