It's "Colleen Malone." Not in Digitrad. Popular among Bluegrassers. For example Tim O'Brien sings a great version on Hot Rize's "Take it Home" (Sugar Hill 3784).

Did you say there's a dog parody of Molly Malone in the DT? Well the DT gives me Connection Refused when I try top go to the DT, like so many things about the Mudcat these last few days.(I DEMAND A RECOUNT) Anyway, there should be a dog parody of the song - here's a start, in case there isn't one already.

If you get Connection refused, just go into the Address Bar at the top and change "www" (or "shorty") to "loki" and then you'll get in.

Loki seems to be the only one that's working - I think the others have come out in protest at the bad treatment the media have handed out to their cousind in Florida!

Not quite as easy as I said. I changed shorty to loki and got a mudcat header and the message Connection Error (shorty, ragtime and www all give a flat "Connection Refused"). But it also has a Super Search box - I clicked Go and that brought up both the DT and the forum.

It's a bloody long-winded way to go about it, but with a bit of persistence you can still find things.

Earlier today loki wasn't working either, nor was shorty, nor was ragtime, so I tried the "help", which I've also got as a favourite. And that gave me a Connection Refused as well.

I hope to many people aren't giving up on the mudcat, or jumping out of windows because they can't get through.

Since I know so little about it, would someone indulge me on 'Dublin's fair city'. In Cockles and Mussels it says the same thing. Dublin is a city, right? So why...? Or is Dublin a county also and it's talking about some other town?

Dublin's a city and it's a county as well, which is bigger than the city. Like New York really. And of course it's also referred to as Dublin Town. (It depends what sort of rhytme you are looking for...)

A cop-out? Not really, it's playing with the expectations of any listeners. They think they'll get "shitty" and instead they get "slippy" - and then later maybe you might use "shitty" which would by then be a surprise, precisely because it hadn't been used before. In a way the effect is one of reimposing an eroded taboo, and then breaking it.

Two for the price of one.

How'd that for a retriospective rationale?

I wish to thank all fot answering my request for colleen malone. i am rather new at this so excuse me if i made any mistakes. the other song i am looking for is a bluegrass one that is popular here in virginia called blue virginia blues and was recorded by larry sparks on his silver reflections cd. if anyone can help with lyrics or banjo tabs i would appreciate it.

Hi Ebbie, Cockles & Mussels, is actually the song Molly Malone. "Cockles & Mussels is a repeated line in the refrain, so people often think it is the name of the song.
Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, & Kilkenny are all Counties, AND Cities. In England, they have a similar habit, but they tend to distinguish the City from the County by adding "Shire" to the County name: thus you have Leicester (the City) & Leicestershire (the county). Of Course, while you still have York (The city) Yorkshire is now adminintered as several counties. This is done to confuse visitors :o)

Dublin is known as the "Fair City" (though I don't know the origins of this), much like Derry is the "Maiden City" (that one I do know - it's because her walls were never breached). The <SARCASM>innovative, brilliant and entertaining</SARCASM> Irish soap opera "Fair City" is all about Dublin. So no one bothers watching it.
