Subject: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 03 Aug 01 - 10:27 AM Well, here I go again! It must be time to add to my life list of Mudcatters. On August 18th I am on my way to Gettysburg to drop off my daughter at college. From there I will run down to West Virginia to visit CarolC and then up to Mid Pennsylvania for a visit with WYSIWYG. Not sure about what path to take back to Maine but I'll work it out. Who else can I visit on my way home? |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 03 Aug 01 - 11:07 AM Nae, we get back home around the 18th. Hope this is going to work out! I gotta go work on beefing up my hug musckles. (That WAS a typo but I like it.) ~Popeye |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: SINSULL Date: 03 Aug 01 - 09:56 PM west Virginia and you're passing up AllanC? Shame on you! |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Uncle Jaque Date: 03 Aug 01 - 10:41 PM Ahoy, Naem': I hopes ye git a chance to stop by Little Round Top, the Peach Orchard, or some similar place on the Hallowed Ground of Gettysburg and pause for a moment of rememberance for the Boys of Old Maine who never came back... as well as all the other ones, both Blue and Gray. Have a safe and pleasantly memorable jouney, Mate! |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Art Thieme Date: 03 Aug 01 - 10:51 PM There is a wormhole just outside Gettysburg that'll get you to Illinois in a wink. Come on ahead. Art |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Peter Kasin Date: 04 Aug 01 - 12:17 AM Naemanson, if you have the time, you might want to make a detour to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Lovely town, great history It's a national historical park, full of great exhibits, and you can walk the Appalachian trail from there through three states in about 20 minutes! (H.F. borders W. Virginia, Virginia, and Maryland). -chanteyranger |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 04 Aug 01 - 07:04 AM Jaque, I do that every time I go through G'burg. My daughter enjoys that area too. My great-great grandfather Benjamin Graham fought with the 5th Mass. Artillery just outside of the peach orchard. His diary makes some fascinating reading. He was wounded once by a Confederate round and then again by the Union sergeant who was binding that wound. It seems a shell went off nearby as the sergeant was cutting the sleeve of his coat. The sergeant jumped and stabbed old ben with the knife. Fortunately he didn't do too much damage. Sins, I don't know Allan and he hasn't showed up on this thread. Carol and I have been talking and I want to meet the living breathing 3D person behind the emails. I would love to meet any Catters who are out there and want to meet me. Art, I think that wormhole may not quite do the trick this time but stand by. I need to make a trip out to your neck of the woods soon and you are one of the prime stops on my list. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to swap puns with a grand master. Chanteyranger, I visited Harper's Ferry a few times in the 1970's with my sister. It is a lovely town and great historical site. I don't know how far Carol is from there but we may be able to squeeze in a visit. I'm looking forward to that hug, "Popeye". |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: CarolC Date: 04 Aug 01 - 07:57 AM Looking forward to your visit, Brett. Harper's Ferry is about ten miles from here. An easy trip if you have enough time. |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Barry Finn Date: 04 Aug 01 - 10:22 AM Hi Naemanson, if you get lost going through New Hampshire, you can always take the road that leads you here. Have a nice trip, Barry |

Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: hesperis Date: 04 Aug 01 - 04:31 PM Waaaahhh! I want to go too! Carol, what was that "garden" place you were telling me about, again? |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: CarolC Date: 04 Aug 01 - 07:17 PM Ooohhhh... The back garden at the Mecklinburg Inn. If it's not raining, that would be an excellent place to sit and visit. Thanks for reminding me. |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: SINSULL Date: 05 Aug 01 - 06:24 PM Refresh. have to help Brett gain on Bill. Colonial thing, you know. |

Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: SINSULL Date: 05 Aug 01 - 11:20 PM Check your PMs. Allan has been trying to get in touch with you. Expect to be asked to perform a certain Gordon Bok ditty. He will make you sing for your supper. Allan can cook - you will be well paid. SINS |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 06 Aug 01 - 11:35 AM Here I am. I just spent three lovely days at the Maine Arts Festival. Five performances over three days with a different set each time. Wears me out just remembering it. Sins, I have responded to Allan's PM. I don't think I'll get to see him on this go round but we will definitely connect at the Getaway. Gordon Bok ditty? Aren't you tired of that yet? Mark, is that in PA? Will it be only on Saturday or on Sunday too? Brett |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 18 Aug 01 - 07:49 AM I am leaving in a few minutes. I will be at CarolC's house tomorrow night and will check in there. Unfortunately I have not been able to connect with my Monday night stop so I may have to drive straight through unless someone else invites me to drop in (hint, hint, Annamil? Are you out there? Sins? DWDitty? Peg?) |

Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: SINSULL Date: 19 Aug 01 - 01:55 PM Strange. I changed the cookie but still posted under Allan's name. As you may have guessed, I am visiting Allan and Thelma and enjoying some peace and quiet. But you are still welcome to use the apartment. Mary |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 19 Aug 01 - 08:29 PM Thanks Mary but I guess I will be headed for Maine after visiting Wizzy Wig in PA. WYSIWYG (Wizzy Wig), I will be there tomorrow afternoon but I don't know what time yet. I will check a map and post a likely arrival time. I told CarolC that I would be here at noon today but I arrived at 1030 so I had to hang around the town until I was supposed to arrive. (There is a story there too but Catol denies it.) |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 19 Aug 01 - 08:41 PM You arrive early, all the better! If it's real hot look for me out back in the sitting pool inside the screen room. Dive right in, shorts OK. Well not DIVE, it's only 30 inches deep. ~Susan |

That pool better be cool! |

Shanties they call them things you sing? Or sleazies? Let's make some sleazies up! Spaw, it's not too late if you start driving now. We can sit out there in the sitting pool in the shade of the 12 x 18 screen room and heckle the construction guys working on the fire damage at long last! Frickin' a chicken in the dutch oven for dinner. Bring beer. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 20 Aug 01 - 08:24 AM Well, I am about to roll and go out of Shepherdstown. Thanks to Carol for a lovely visit and a grand tour of the town. I have seen the canal lock, the muddy (polluted) Potomac, the Great Hall, and most impressively, the Rumsey Boat. The futon was very comfortable and breakfast delicious. I hereby promise not to tell the tale of your deep sleep and how you got us lost in your own town. And I will never reveal the conversational subject (SEX) that got you so flutstered that you started reading the map upside down. Wait, NO! Carol don't push me away from the keybo....
Don't listen to him! I am completely innocent! I wasn't asleep! It was a drug induced haze! I am after all coming down with a cold.... And talking about SEX doesn't bither mi attt al.... uh, what was I saying? |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 20 Aug 01 - 09:32 AM And he's a great little speller, too. Oh sh**! What's he gonna say about US????? ~S~ |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: CarolC Date: 20 Aug 01 - 09:44 AM Ahem...
I don't know who wrote that. I don't think I know that person...
...anyway, Brett left about ten minutes ago, and he said he thinks he should be arriving at the sitting pool in about five hours. But it could be five hours give or take one or two hours.
It was wonderful meeting Brett face to face, and he's a hell of a singer (and an even better story teller, in my opinion). He sang a beautiful song a capella, and he really belted it out. The neighbors thought he was beating on me and they called the cops. We smoothed it out with a little bribe and he only had to spend about an hour in the town jail. He struck up a nice conversation with the female guard who seemed quite smitten. I think he's leaving at least one broken heart behind here in Shepherdstown. Such is life.
Susan, thank you for the invitation. Regretably, I won't be able to make it because my son is coming to visit me later today. It will be my last visit with him before he heads off to college. Another time, perhaps. Have fun with the little gathering, I know Brett is really looking forward to his visit with those of you up there in Pennsylvania. |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 20 Aug 01 - 09:50 AM Carol, .... sigh... thanks for sending him on. I bet you wanted to keep him. I know we will want to. And do please come see us sometime-- see the thread on Ongoing MudGathers. (I will refresh it.) Maybe you can make September. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: CarolC Date: 20 Aug 01 - 03:06 PM I didn't know that visits from Naemanson had lingering after effects.
I just walked out my door to go to the store. Wedged between the door knob and frame was a tape of Bill, Sam, and Ian from their recent US tour. How cool is that?
Thanks Brett!!! (Great tape, guys!) |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 20 Aug 01 - 03:40 PM Cops? Female Guard? Broken Heart? OK Carol, you have now unleashed the FULL story of my visit. By the way, I have arrived. I am safe though the prayer meeting is going on longer than I would have hoped. Better report later.... |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 21 Aug 01 - 09:16 AM Aw, he's gone already. :~( But that means I have TEN WHOLE HOURS (before he gets home) to say whatever I want about the visit! *G* Well, that's easy, and it won't take ten hours either.
|
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: CarolC Date: 21 Aug 01 - 01:27 PM ...and he can sing, too! |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 21 Aug 01 - 09:25 PM I am home and safe and dead tired! It took 12 hours! I want my bed and NO alarm clock. |

Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 22 Aug 01 - 06:14 AM Well, thanks to my *!!@*^&!! ability to wake up at 5:30 AM on weekdays I have slept and am refreshed(?). Thanks so much to CarolC and WYSIWYG for their splendid hospitality. In the last three days I have covered over 1600 miles and I couldn't have done it without you two and the support you gave me. And I will not be traveling for a wile now that this trip is over. It will take some time to recover from this one. |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Aug 01 - 08:53 AM Yeah, I don't know WHY you needed that nap, either! No reason to be tired or anything! Just a little road trip! ~Susan |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Charley Noble Date: 22 Aug 01 - 09:13 AM So who do we have to blame for Brett being a "no show" for our all-important Roll & Go rehearsal?;-) |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Aug 01 - 09:26 AM Oh, I think you should take full responsibility yourselves. An appropriate driving companion assigned by the group would have made all the difference. *G*G*G*G* ~Susan |

Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Aug 01 - 10:31 AM Well not for the long return trip if she wanted to stay at college, where he had dropped her off. His NIECE maybe. *G* ~S~ |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 22 Aug 01 - 11:57 AM Yeah, but do you mean my 6 year old niece or my 19 year old niece? The 6 year old is good for numerous questions and conversation without end. The older one is only good for conversations about her beloved horses. |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Aug 01 - 12:25 PM No, not that kind of "niece"! Get back to work! Oops-- is this a day off to rest??? I assumed we'd be able to kid around here without ya noticing for a bit! *G* (You told me, I just can't rmember. CRS.) But I like the idea of the 6 year old navigating around Corning/Elmira! ~Susan |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 22 Aug 01 - 12:38 PM Hey, I tried to sleep in but couldn't. I had to work at getting out of the house. Walked through the door at work to be confronted by the end of the world. Apparently when I am gone the whole thing frays out and unravels. Now I am up to my ears in alligators. |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Aug 01 - 01:06 PM OK, I'll see your alligator and raise you a crocodile. Hardiman finds that when that happens it makes sense to head back out again pretty soon-- sometimes they ravel things back together nicely without him there to collapse upon. But I know YMMV, and I'll be thinking aboutcha. ~S~ |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: CarolC Date: 22 Aug 01 - 07:15 PM What on earth did you Pennsylvania people do to the poor man? He was in fine shape when he left here Monday morning. Honest... it wasn't me that did him in. Dispite his little misadventure with the local constabulatory, we had a very restful and sedate little visit. Really.
|
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Aug 01 - 08:02 PM Well I think it was the 12 hour drive. All we did was feed him and send him to bed. We swapped a coupla tunes but he wasn't wrestling black bears or nothing. I think it's a normal parental reaction to let down in a bit of stored-up exhaustion when the nest gets a bit emptier, as well as the relief of getting a child well-launched. Or ELSE it's the stuff YOU did together he only HINTED at. *G* Cuz he was dead aslep within a half hour of arriving! *G* (So cute when he's asleep!) Just kidding. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: Naemanson Date: 22 Aug 01 - 08:42 PM Well speaking of Carol and being asleep... When I arrived at 10:30 I found a note upon the door telling me to come in, the door was unlocked. The note went on to say that carol might be "snoozing" and that she might "call out" when she heard me. entering another person's home when they are not aware of what is going on runs deeply against all my ingrained habits. I knocked. No answer. I stuck my head in the door and called. No answer. I stepped inside and called again. No answer. I climbed the stairs calling and knocking on the wall. No answer. Upstairs the room was dark and fans were running. I called again. No answer. Then the power went out. I felt very uncomfortable. Either she was out or she was asleep. Either way I felt as though I didn't belong in that place. I left my gift and a note on her table and departed. I returned at noon, which is when I said I would. The door was still unlocked. I knocked. No answer. I stuck my head in the door and called. No answer. I stepped inside and called again. No answer. I climbed the stairs calling and knocking on the wall. No answer. Upstairs the room was dark and fans were running. I called again. FINALLY a sleepy voice called from the back room. After a few minutes Carol stepped out, groggy and rubbing sleep from her eyes. Talk about sound sleepers! I could have been a mad rapist or ax murderer or something. Fortunately I was only a Mudcatter she had never met before. Gawd this site is awesome! I traveled 650 miles to walk, a stranger, into a strange apartment to be greeted by a hug and a cup of coffee. Only among Mudders! |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: CarolC Date: 22 Aug 01 - 09:20 PM hahahaha...
So let that be a lesson to all of you 'catters who think I never sleep! Ha! (...and Brett's an awesome hugger) |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: wysiwyg Date: 22 Aug 01 - 09:33 PM yup! |
Subject: RE: NAEMANSON: 'On The Road Again!' From: CamiSu Date: 22 Aug 01 - 11:44 PM Well. See what happens when you fall off the earth, (or at least the 'cat) for a month or so? But I guess Brett wouldn't have made it this far north. And I wanted to have a 'Cat Party this summer. Don't think it's gonna happen unless someone else plans it. (It can happen here. I just can't plan anything right now) Oh well. Next time. And yes, he is a wonderful singer. CamiSu |
