Subject: RE: Naemanson Coming to Philly From: SharonA Date: 17 Oct 02 - 04:36 PM Brett: Yes, by all means, get in a few days early and come to the November meeting of the Bucks County Folk Song Society (to which Bert linked)! It's on November 3rd at 6:30 pm. This month's format is "open mike" (stand at the front of the room and sing into whatever sound system they've rigged up for the occasion), after which there are snacks and jamming till 10 pm. If you like, we could arrange to meet somewhere so I can drive/lead you to the meeting place and introduce you around. You may also be interested in attending the Open Circle at the Mermaid Inn on Germantown Avenue in Philly, on Thursday November 7. Here's a link to their November calendar of events: http://www.themermaidinn.net/november2002.html If there's to be a 'Catter get-together while you're in town, please let me know! SharonA |

Call me or email me @ Familywork90@aol.com for directions or guide-dog services! Subject: RE: Naemanson Coming to Philly From: Naemanson Date: 04 Nov 02 - 10:27 AM Ok, here I am. I've been a little busy lately, moving and all. I do not have an internet connection in the new place yet and I'm not sure if I can fit it into the latest budget so I have to do my 'Catting from the office. Anyway, here is the itinerary. I will be arriving in Philly late Wednesday. I have Thursday evening available so I would like to find the Mermaid. Can I have an address? I will be driving from the airport so any directions should come from there. What time does the open mike start? Should I bring some CDs to sell? What is the format? Is there a sign up sheet or is it a song circle? |
Subject: RE: Naemanson Coming to Philly From: Naemanson Date: 05 Nov 02 - 11:13 AM OK, I have directions and the particulars for the Mermaid. I will be there with voice, possibly guitar, and CDs. Looking forward to seeing some good friends and hearing some good music. |

Subject: RE: Naemanson Coming to Philly From: SharonA Date: 07 Nov 02 - 09:30 AM And I should let that stop me because...?? *BG* Charley, I'll be happy to post again tomorrow and tell everyone about the pleasant time I expect I will have this evening, meeting Naemanson and listening to his songs! (...and getting his CD!) I'm hoping Marymac will be there, too. |
Subject: RE: Naemanson Coming to Philly From: Naemanson Date: 08 Nov 02 - 09:11 AM Well, now I can say I've been to The Mermaid. Interesting and fun group. I can tell many of them have been doing this for a long time. And it is an interesting building. I wish I could have seen more. The evening was a song circle in the back room of the inn. I'd guess there were 20 - 25 people there at various times. The music ranged from old English ballads (complete with body count) to modern singer songwriter. There was some Joanie Mitchell and Patsy Kline. Instruments were the ubiquitous guitar plus a banjo, fiddle, flute and a trumpet! Everyone had a good time but I had to bow out around 11:00 because I had a long way to go over unfamiliar roads. And I had to work next day. Thanks very much to SharonA and Marymac for giving directions and meeting me there. It was lovely to meet you Sharon and nice to see you again Mary. |
Subject: RE: Naemanson Coming to Philly From: SharonA Date: 08 Nov 02 - 12:25 PM Thanks, Brett. It was very nice to meet you, too! Glad you made it to The Mermaid (once you found the place!). BTW, the trumpet player shows up for almost every Open Circle! For the benefit of other readers out there, I'll post a link to a page with photos of the Mermaid's lovely old bar. Note the mermaid ornaments hanging from the lights! Also on this page is a color image of a mermaid in the sea (in a circle); this art actually is part of a stained-glass window in the barroom. Link: http://www.themermaidinn.net/inside.html This next page shows the room in which the Open Circle is held: http://www.themermaidinn.net/rooms.html. Brett arrived before Mary and I did, and he took a seat for the evening next to the door, where they line up all the armchairs. Unfortunately, those chairs are not comfortable for Mary and me (and it's tough to play guitar in one of those chairs!) so we had to sit on the armless chairs at the opposite end of the room. Sorry, Brett, we didn't mean to leave you all alone over there! I missed hearing Brett's first song, but caught his second one. What a strong voice! Brett, you made a great contribution to the evening's fun, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed having you. Come back again sometime if you can! (And thanks for bringing along the "Roll & Go" CD so I could buy it – can't wait to give it a listen!) |
