Am I alone in thinking that Allan Taylor is the best of the current crop of song-writers. I don't think I've heard a song of his that I don't like, and he is as good live in a club as he is on record. He has usurped Ralph McTell as my "Best of British" choice.

Giok, I'm afraid I don't know of this fellow. Can you relay some of the song titles?

He is truly a magnificent songwriter (and performer). "Roll on the Day" is one of his best-known songs. I don't know if he tours much in America, if at all.

He has a website with sound clips at www.allantaylor.com

He has written some great songs, and he does great live gigs, but listening to the last few albums I kept wondering whether I'd heard the songs on them already. His more recent songs seem to concentrate on 'navel-gazing', with little variety musically as well. For me, the only current songwriter who hardly ever disappoints is Brian McNeill.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Susanne, I bought Alan's albums from 70's through to the early 90's, but have passed on the last few, (apart from the Alex C tribute). The Traveller is probably my personal all time fav. (It has been Bulmerised, but is one of the few he has put out).
I also agree that Brian is one of only two writers I cannot find fault with, (i.e. no weak songs padding out the CD) the other is Jez Lowe.
love, john.
