Dear jennifer,

I was a big fan of Allan's back in the 70's. I literally wore out my copy of The American Album. Thanks for reminding me of how much pleasure his music gave me. And it's great to find out that he's still recording some wonderful, wonderful songs! If anything, his voice and song writing have become more evocative over the years.

For those of you who haven't heard Allan Taylor, here's his website. There are some sound clips from his recent CDs; but you have to have Shockwave to play them. Enjoy!

All the best, Áine

Jennifer
Sorcha (a mudcat member) refreshed the thread (in this case your request), in the hope that someone might be able to answer your original question. If she hadn't done so, your request would have dropped out of sight. Hope you get the info you need.

Thanks, Willa. Not having much luck with this one, am I? The Roses of Eyam request made up for it, though - you're a gem!

J.

COME HOME SAFELY TO ME ~ Allan Taylor

I'm lookin' to the ocean for a sail to come in view
It's just the kind of waitin' when there's nothin' left to do
I'm waitin' for the tide to turn and watch it runnin' free
And I say : Come Home Safely To Me.

The boats are trimmed and ready and spread along the beach
And out along the reef the fish are coming in to reach
Following the trade winds far away across the sea
And I say : Come Home Safely To Me.

And I have learned how to pass the day
       Let the winter fade away
Look to the sun as it kisses the sea
And I say : Come Home Safely To Me.

Lovers come together and lovers drift apart
And memories are carried in the beating of a heart
But love is like a flower that's tossed upon the sea
And I say : Come Home Safely To Me.

And I have learned how to pass the day
       Let the winter fade away
Look to the sun as it kisses the sea
And I say : Come Home Safely To Me.

I'm lookin' to the ocean for a sail to come in view
It's just the kind of waitin' when there's nothin' left to do
I'm waitin' for the tide to turn and watch it runnin' free
And I say : Come Home Safely To Me.

And I say : Come Home Safely To Me.
And I say : Come Home Safely To Me.

from the singing of that fabby female group from the UK "Lucky Bags" ...
I'm going to try and persuade the Significant Other to learn this with me now!!!

Cheers! R-J

Jennifer,

From memory (guitar's in its case in the bedroom where Mrs. Johnny slumbers peacefully at the moment - daren't disturb her!).

It's in G, capo it where you want. There's an intro which is based onthe chord run with the tune played amongst it (you'll need to figure it out)

Verses:-
G, C/G, D, G
C/G, G, G, D
G, C/G, D, G
C/G, D, G

Chorus:-
D, C/G, G
D, C/G, D
G, C/G, D, G
C/G, D, G

Hope this helps.
Great song - Allan Tayor's the Guv'nor.
