So - does anyone know what the Tony Rose benefit concert at Sidmout raised?

And - for those who weren't there - you missed a cracker, but might want to know that ADA Records donated 21 CDs for the raffle at the concert . .

George

Missed the benefit - I understand Nic Jones and Tony managed to put in an appearance - is that correct?

My connection with Tony is in the very distant past - I used to take the money when he took his (three weekly?) turn in compering the Cellar Folk Club at Cecil Sharp House (London, England) way back in the sixties.

If he gets to see any of this, good luck matey - I've still got all the albums!

Hi
Guest Dick G
Yes, Tony and Nic were in full effect at Sidmouth
Missed it myself as I was playing elsewhere, but, by all accounts an emotional time was had by all.
Good luck to the old man. (Well not that old , actually!)
Regards Ralphie

There wasn't a specific concert at Whitby, but a raffle which continued during the week with various prizes donated by the artists appearing - the first prize being 2 season tickets for next year, which shows you how highly Malcolm must regard Tony. I think the total raised was something over a thousand pounds - not bad going, and I am sure Tony will appreciate the love with which it all comes.

Yes, it was unfortunate Ralphie had to miss the Tony Rose benefit . . he'd have been one more tearful bugger to keep me company at the end of the show.

Tony and family, Nic and his son were there throughout the show. Tony, family and Nic joined the assembled mass (all the performers, various MCs, etc.) on stage for the final number. VERY emotional.

Also, aside from that, it was a great concert.

I was delighted to see Black Swan Rapper bringing a "Youth" aspect to what was otherwise very much a line-up of artists of "my" generation. (Like Ralphie, our daughter was working elsewhere and so had to miss the gig).

It seems appropriate, too, to recognise the contribution of the Festival organisers, the sound and lighting crews and the volunteer stewards at the Ham . .

G.

I saw Pete Shutler of the Yetties this morning, he told me that Tony is feeling a bit down at the present but that is a result of the chemotherapy. dave

Saw Tony last Friday 30th Nov. at benefit (yet another!) concert by Dick Gaughan in darkest Dorset. He is in good spirits, although still having the chemo, which gives him a hard time for the first week or so of each treatment. Current news is that the treatment is having some beneficial effect.

The usual Roser jokes flew about. This time:-
'I feel a fraud turning up at these benefits looking fit and healthy!'
Tony did a spot and is singing and playing better than ever. Was even seen to be sinking a short as well as beer!

As Katlaughing has intimated, Tony died the other evening after his long battle with cancer.

I'm sure all 'Catters send their sympathy to Helen.

Since Tom & Barbara Brown have published her address on their website, I don't suppose it'll hurt to put it here.

Here is alink to the Obit thread.

No, I didn't, Dave. I sent it as a personal e-mail to those people I thought would like to know. I would never publish anyone else's address in a public forum.

Like you, however, I hope there's no harm in you having done so.

Barbara

To expand on something earlier on this thread, messages of sympathy can always be sent via Tony's favourite music shop :

The Whole Wide World,
27 Market Street,
Crewkerne, Somerset,
TA18 7JU.
England

who can also supply Tony's CD for any of you who may wish to hear his fine English singing.
