'I like a nice cup of tea in the Morning, Just to start the day, you see Then at half past eleven, then my idea of Heaven is a nice cup of tea. I like a nice cup of tea with my dinner and a nice cup of tea with my Tea, And when it's time for bed, there's a lot to be said for a nice cup of tea." |
Subject: RE: Jingles you remember. From: GUEST,David Usher Date: 18 Sep 19 - 03:36 AM I learned the Chambers Caskets parody from Joe Hickerson at a house party in the 1970s in St. Louis. I did a show at a library in the south side of St. Louis in the 1980's and met the guy who said that he wrote the lyrics. His name is Jim Sparks. He lived in St. Louis MO. I'm pretty sure he has passed away by now. I did the song and he came running up in shock that anybody knew the song. He said he had been commissioned to write a theme song for the funeral director's convention in New York City in 1939. Here are the words (sung to Rock of Ages): Chambers caskets are so fine, Made of sandal-wood and pine. When your loved ones pass away, Have them pass the Chambers way. Chambers customers all sing, "Death, oh death, where is thy sting?" |

Subject: RE: Jingles you remember - Nabisco Premium Saltine From: GUEST,Debbie C - guest Date: 20 Jan 21 - 11:28 AM Subject: RE: Jingles you remember. From: GUEST,Dana Date: 16 Nov 05 - 11:40 AM I don't think these have been mentioned: For Nabisco Premium Saltine Crackers (circa 1964): Premium Saltines reclosable pack, You open 'em up and you close 'em back. They stay crisp until You get to the very last cracker. Premium Saltine! Hi Dana. Every time I see the package of these crackers this jingle starts running through my brain. I remember it a little differently The first 2 lines are the same as your recollection. But I remember the rest as: No crackers to break up, they're singlely stacked. And they stay crisp to the very, very last cracker. |
Subject: RE: Jingles you remember. From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 20 Jan 21 - 09:55 PM Playground Repertoire 1960. The biggest, most burly, 6th grader bully would come up, with his admiring clique of cronies, to a naive 4th grader and ask: "What is the beginning of that cigarette commercial?" The reply from Naïveté was: "Winston taste's good." Upon which bully would pull out the top of his trousers, look down into his pants and reply to the guffaws of his friends: "Hear that Winston?" Sincerely, Gargoyle It is good to round off the rough edges at an early age. Pecking order exists. |

Subject: RE: Jingles you remember. From: GUEST Date: 28 Apr 22 - 05:01 PM To the tune of Rock of Ages: Chamber's caskets are so fine, Made of sandal wood and pine. When your loved ones have to go, Dial Columbia Triple O. When your loved ones pass away, Have them pass the Chamber's way. Chamber's customers all sing, "Death O Death, where is they sting?" Australian Dennis Tracy and two other members of the group sang this one on the 1979 album "No Man's Land." Liner note: "Perhaps unfortunately, the origins of this little number are obscure. It may once have been a radio advertisement in America." It is a fine performance. |
