Subject: Somewhere Along the Road on German TV From: Wotcha Date: 13 Jul 03 - 02:36 AM I was perusing the German TV last night and got locked into a romantic comedy ("Tigermaennchen sucht Tigerweibchen" [ARD 2001]) but wasn't hooked until the familiar strains of "Somewhere along the Road" came spilling out as a very subtle (maybe lost to the German audience) subtext message (the song was played a couple of times throughout the movie). Not sure if it was Maddy Prior's voice on this version but it sure made my day hearing folk on Das Erste Fernsehen! Any German Catters know if this song is well known to Germans? Cheers/Ade, Brian |

I just thought it was unusual to hear a song better known in English song circles on German fernsehen. BTW just had a great day in 30 degree C weather running all over the woods and hills of Stuttgart ... found out that there's a Irish Pub (O'Reilley's) may have an Open Mic on Mondays ... However, some of the better known exponents of British folk music are quite popular with German folk enthusiasts - the director or sound effects person may be among them (the latter, not the former, of course!). |
