Subject: Folklore: Upton Folk Festival 30 April to 3rd May From: COINWOLF Date: 14 Apr 04 - 05:30 PM The Upton Folk Festival is a fun and frolic event with loads of Morris, loads of fringe sessions and singarounds as well as the usual venues you have to pay for to keep the event going. This year there is a big problem with the Bridge at Upton. It cannot take heavy or large vehicles, so the Highways people have restricted the traffic over the bridge to cars only. It has a one way system with traffic lights, so even if you can get through the width restriction, there are likely to be queues. The best thing to do is to avoid coming off the junction on the A38 to Upton, and cross the river either at Worcester (If you are coming from the NORTH) or at Tewkesbury, at the Mythe Bridge(if you are coming from the South). Take at a look at the map first, bearing in mind the obvious route using the A38 and the Upton bridge is not an option). Cars with caravans are advised not to try to get over the bridge, as the width restriction is very tight, and there are concrete walls in place to stop wider/ higher vehicles. |

Subject: RE: Upton Folk Festival 30 April to 3rd May From: Mr Red Date: 15 Apr 04 - 03:27 PM Shall I take the piss and get my caravan through? If I can't get it through then the car is sure conna get stuck. And if it is too tall then there will be a lot of Chelsea Tractors stopping and turning. Mind you - apart from the centre of Tweeksburg it is a much nicer drive through Coarse Lawn and you end-up on the caravan site side of Upton (as long as you spot the turning and walk to the registration caravan) Basically if you see a church with a large spire as you come down down the hill look for a road on the laft (you have two chances). If you want to avoid the centre of Tewkesbury with your caravan (and I recommend it) look on the map and consider the M50 J1 and turn South to Tewkesbury and as you come down another river escarpment (3-4 miles at least) look for the road to Ledbury on your right. If you cross the river before turning right you will be in Tweeksburg before you can turn and then you will really wish you kept your eyes peeled. If you can cross the river at Tirley (off the A38) consider that but getting there from the M5 is not worth the hassle. Have a nice journey! |
