Subject: RE: BS: It's Proven-Silence not Fatal From: Peace Date: 19 Jun 04 - 03:03 PM OK, there's something going on here and I want to make it clear to women everywhere that I read and understood Germaine Greer's "TFE". I favour women having the right to vote (and I hope they get it real soon). I am also of the opinion that women should be paid at LEAST 3/4 the wages a man would make for doing any given job. I would agree that men should do dishes a minimum of once a week, wash floors when their female spouse is ill (provided the fever is higher than 103 degrees or the bone is MOSTLY set). Please remember that. I am on YOUR side. |

The world just went wrong a couple of thousand years ago when Emperor Constantine (a pagan and Goddess worshipper) decided to accept Christianity as the official religion, for political reasons. Subject: RE: BS: It's Proven-Silence not Fatal From: Peace Date: 20 Jun 04 - 10:31 AM It should be noted that Constantine made Christianity the religion of Rome, but what is more important is that the Council of Nicea which he called in 325 CE was where the vote was taken to declare Jesus (the Christ) divine. Constantine also worshipped the sun, and if one examines coins of the era, one can see that they contain both the cross and the sun. Constantine himself did not convert to Christianity until just before his death. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's Proven-Silence not Fatal From: CarolC Date: 21 Jun 04 - 12:05 PM Here's my little homage to silence... A couple of evenings ago, after we'd had a drenching thunderstorm and the sky had a soft pinkish glow, I was outside for a few minutes and I noticed that I was hearing total silence except for the beautiful sounds of bird-song. Now this was a strange experience here where we live because there is a highway a hundred or so feet from here, and a large military base on the other side of the highway. I just stood listening and soaking in the sounds and the beautiful colors. Then I called JtS outside so he could enjoy it with me. About ten seconds after he came outside, the beautiful silence was broken by the sound of machine gun fire, and then a big huge semi-tractor trailer came rumbling up the hill and gunning its engine just as it passed by. Then more machine gun fire and more trucks, and the spell was broken. But I heard the silence and the bird-song, and I know it happened. That's sort of magical. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's Proven-Silence not Fatal From: GUEST,The Omnipotent Krill Date: 21 Jun 04 - 04:38 PM Art Bell? Ha! He has a taste for the bizarre and unusual, and has even done features that mentioned me in passing, but not for some time. He was foolish to take me so lightly. He is an insignificant piece of biological waste which we will destroy utterly when we take over your little planet. His slow, hideous demise in the plasma inverter will be used to entertain the warriors of Thoth as we celebrate over the ruins of your defunct civilization. We have decided that your incompetent military forces, whom we optimistically expected to do the job of destroying your decadent civilization for us, just cannot get it together...all they can do is mess up a few localized areas like Iraq and Afghanistan...so we are going to do it for you instead...worldwide. Your cities will be leveled, your cars will be compacted, your gonads and ovaries will be extracted. If you have any idiotic "entertainment" things left to do that you hadn't gotten around to yet, such as skydiving, shark wrestling, or having illicit sex in the Oval Office, we suggest you get right to it now while you still can. |

(Freda) I'm sure you all want to read the male counterpart to this biological argument: Women have more connecting tissue between the right side of their brain and the left side. This apparently is the reason why they cannot follow a logical argument independent of emotions. None any better than the other, in my eyes. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: BS: It's Proven-Silence not Fatal From: jacqui.c Date: 22 Jun 04 - 07:46 AM As with everything this is more dependant on the individual than the gender. I can think of at least two male catters who can out-talk any woman I know and a lot of women who can follow a logical argument without getting up tight. I think that this is shown in this thread, which has, in my view, been very tongue in cheek all the way through. It's been fun revisiting this one, and I've found myself laughing out loud at some of the comments that have been made. Mind you, I can now see why Brucie won't put a profile or a photo up - he really would be in danger of lynching or worse if us emotional, tempermental females got on his trail! |
Subject: RE: BS: It's Proven-Silence not Fatal From: beardedbruce Date: 22 Jun 04 - 09:30 AM from the original post: "asked the wife not to speak for approximately twenty seconds while her partner was watching Euro 2004. To our amazement, she did not expire at the end of the enforced silence" 20 seconds? since I can hold my breath that long, I guess I can assume that not breathing is also proven not fatal? and what followup has been done? of those tested, have any died since the test, indicating a delayed reaction? IMO, this has not been a rigourous test of the postulate. 8-{E |
