I was thinking about cars today. And window wipers. And that led onto planes. And the stupid question then occoured to me - do planes have window wipers?

please can someone answer this since I really want to know!!

Actually, some aircraft have windshield wipers, some do not. Aircraft designed to fly extremely fast, or alternatively, very cheaply, do not. Rain, snow, etc. is simply sheeted off of the windshield. In aircraft that are called on to fly in icing conditions (all commercial aircraft, many others) have heated windshields to melt off ice. Wipers and the mechanism that operates them are expensive, and prone to breaking at high speeds. Therefore they must be very sturdy, ergo, very expensive. Commercial jets that have wipers use them only on the ground where the droplets of water are not blown off

Speed is a wonderful thing.

Like what's to see anyway! 99% of flying is lookin' out the side windows, if at all. Shoot, most of it's lookin' down down at yer danged lap at a chart and navigatin' and the only time you really use the winsheild is taxi-ing, takin' off and linin' up yer landings. Now the commercial jets is different since the plane flies itself purdy much, lands itself and the pilot has to do is tap the brakes at the end of the flight and look real smart walking thru the airport..

Awww, jus' funnin... Kind of...

So really, wipers are purdy useless other than fir taxi-in'. I mean like what you gonna run into?

As fir Cesnas, them ducks ain't got a lot of windshield stickin' power after a the early 1st round knock out by the prop...
