Little Hawk. How right you are. It's only when we've cleaned up our own side of the street that we're able to find and attract another healthy person. Too many of us expect a member of the opposite sex to "complete" us. That's BS. I hate the term "soulmate" - it has so many unrealistic qualities. I heard someone say that "expectations are just premeditated resentments".

Got that right, Amos! I can hardly believe I'm this old. Still, I can pass myself off as a lot younger. The last time I was asked for drinking age I.D. (age 18 in ontario) was when I was 29!

Shatner worship is said to be beneficial in maintaining a youthful appearance... :-)

Drinking age is 19 in Ontario. Has been since I was 19.

The only time I was ever asked for ID was when I had to get a Cabaret License to sing at a bar in NYC. I made a few creative changes to my birth certificate--showed my new License to the club owner and I was in. Was there as an emcee for about three months. Great gig.

i agree that there are many men who need to be educated about what it means to be a civilized human being. i am grateful that women often serve this function for men. One thing that I've noticed is that women might be well advised to see how men really treat each other. This would give them insight.

Women have been abused at the hands of men probably more often than vice-versa. They have been denied equality of citizenship by the idiotic refusal of white fat men in office to honor the Equal Rights Amendment which is long overdue. Parity and fairness in equal pay for equal work would make a difference too. The abuse of women has been a hallmark of many reactionary organized fundamentalist religions. I believe that the "Promise Keepers" is responsible for keeping women in subservient positions. The "strict father" image suggested by George Lakoff is the major problem. It rationalizes abuse by sadistic men who prey upon women as if they were occupying another country. Fortunately, not all women or men tolerate this kind of thinking.

The "strict father" archetype is the major problem behind aggression and arch-conservatism in politics and religion as well. It is the underlying principle that steers the Republican Party, fundamentalist religion...and the police state, wherever it makes its appearance.
