Subject: BS: Cranky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again From: seagoddess Date: 06 Mar 05 - 11:30 PM Craky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again On a sad note: Mudcatter Cranky Yankee, Jody Gibson, is very ill with cancer and has asked that his friends be informed of the critical nature of his illness. I know he would appreciate being remembered in your thoughts and prayers and I also know that he'd be thankful for the same for his family, which has been such a support and comfort for him. Jody's spirits remain positive and strong, but his body is fatigued by the aggressive chemotherapy he is undergoing. His incredible wife, Donna, is doing a great job of caring for him both physically and spiritually - she even manages to arrange for friends to visit and play music with/for him, which he greatly appreciates. So please keep Jody in mind and if you have a greeting for Jody, I promise to deliver it to him and Donna for you. I'll check back daily and pick up messages left on this thread - or you can send him email through me at the address below. Thanks, Cindy - seagoddess cindy@seashanties.net |

Subject: HELP A FRIEND: Cranky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again From: seagoddess Date: 08 Mar 05 - 06:02 PM It has been suggested that due to the serious nature of the thread that I previously posted (in "BS Non-Musical") more Mudcatters might see if I post it here in the general forum. So, I am re-posting the notice to be certain anyone who wants to participate will be able to. Thanks to all of you who have responded - I am delivering them to Jody tomorrow. Subject: RE: BS: Cranky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again From: Tannywheeler Date: 09 Mar 05 - 01:18 PM Darn that C-word. Nastiest word in the English language. Killed both of my parents and 2 grands. BUT... My cousin's son had an agressive brain tumor (malignant). This was about 10-12 years ago. Surgery and chemo and radiation were employed, with concommitent illness and weakness. For several years everyone's first question was "How did your last checkup go?" We've been able to stop asking and just keep rejoicing in his still being with us. New daughter born to him and his wife about 2 yrs after the surgery. He's a great dad. He just keeps soaring through life giving us all great joy. Hope you can obey Jesus: "Go thou, and do likewise." Subject: RE: BS: Cranky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again From: MaineDog Date: 09 Mar 05 - 07:28 PM I too have had problems with this terrible beast-- one wife lost and another sick, although presently in remission. She is doing well, now, and relates that lots of vitamin C makes chemo go better, helping to reduce some of the side effects. Oncologists, though, seem not to like the vitamin C, some of them think that it may interfere. There is stuff on the web about this. Good support, attitude, and strong faith are essential to a good outcome. Keep up the fight, and God bless. MD |

Subject: RE: BS: Cranky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again From: seagoddess Date: 09 Mar 05 - 11:36 PM FROM: JODY - "Wow, that's wonderful - some of the nicest folks on earth, them Mudcatters..and notes from all over the world, too!" FROM: DONNA - "Please post a very big 'thank you' from us both and say that as soon as one of us can, we will be online and thank them ourselves." And from me: I delivered your greetings today, read each and every one to Jody and Donna. I felt so honored to deliver the words of compassion and encouragement you all entrusted to me. Thank you for responding, participating, and most of all for your continuing support and prayers. I am joyful witness to the difference you all made today in their lives - they were both deeply touched. Donna said she could feel positive energy coming their way and that it strengthened her..."yes," Jody agreed. And then he said something that made me think that he just might make it after all: "I sure know what it feels like when someone sends nasty energy my way! And yeah, this feels good!" Personally, I'll know that he's truly okay when I hear him grumbling and sputtering again - no one can do it quite like the Cranky Yankee. Healthwise: To me Jody seems stronger; alert, peaceful, and working hard at getting well. I'll drop in here and post updates whenever I can, until Donna or Jody can do it themselves, that is. So keep those cards and letters coming folks; I'll gladly drive the 2 hours to deliver them every few days for you! And I do have a mailing address for them - you can PM me for that. Cindy |
Subject: RE: Cranky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again From: seagoddess Date: 31 Mar 05 - 05:03 PM I received a message from Jody and Donna today asking me to please post a BIG THANK YOU for cards they've received. Your thoughtfulness went a long ways in brightening our day and we truly appreciate it! Cindy |

Subject: RE: Cranky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again From: gnu Date: 01 Apr 05 - 02:21 PM Any update? Thoughts and prayers. |
Subject: RE: Cranky Yankee Fighting Cancer Again From: seagoddess Date: 01 Apr 05 - 06:23 PM Pauline, Ranger - I will pass along your messages to the Gibsons, thanks! gnu - Not much to add as an update. Folks and family visit whenever possible - sometimes to play music, sometimes to sit and yak. Jody, understandably, is experiencing serious fatigue and overall weakness from the chemo treatments, which continue. It is hard for him to be idle and even harder to let Donna, who also has health challenges, wait upon him. But they seem to have worked it out where she gets to nurture and he accepts her fussing over him. I know he's encouraged by Donna's tenatious refusal to give up on him, and I also know that his spirit is bolstered by the support he receives from friends, mudcatters included, and his family. Medically speaking, his odds are 50/50 - not that great, to be sure. However, I don't think the doctors have factored in either the 'cranky' or the 'yankee' aspects. Cindy |
