This fifth edition of the Name That Mudcatter Guide For The Perplexed contains selected questions that have been answered in the 1st through 4th edition of this game. This edition also includes selected questions that were asked & answered or asked and not answered since the 4th edition of this Guide.

This Guide does not purport to include all the questions that have been posted in this game.

The numbers given are usually by order of the question's posting. However, some questions aren't in the order of their posting and other questions have been re-numbered as I missed them in previous editions, or I otherwise goofed in their numbering.

Since I really hate to proofread, compiling these questions & responses was no fun at all.

But, imo, this game can serves as a good introduction to Mudcat for new members & new guests, and it also provides interesting information for folks who aren't that new to this community.

I sure learned alot from reading the responses, and I enjoyed coming up with some questions, too.

There's some questions without correct responses, and alot more questions that could be asked. So if people care to play, this game can be as big as....

Azizi, you know, it has been so many years that I've been on Mudcat that my aging brain is starting to forget those marvelous early threads. Test Your Mudcat IQ back in 1999 was a first version of your Name That Mudcatter. I agree with spaw in that I am amazed that something like farts would be what he is remembered for! In reading your "name that" thread, I thought, well this will tell each of us what kind of legacy we have left here.... or not. It will tell us how much of our contribution is lost in the past of Mudcat and not known to current posters. I've been on Mudcat since 1998, and still read it each day. It has changed very much over the years. Most here don't even seem to know me anymore.

Of course, there's nothing unique about this game. And needless to say, its title is based on the "Name That Tune" tv show.

As for the Tale of the Imploding Pedro, here is the way Rick told it. I alwyas thought it would be a great scene in a sitcom!!!

"Each of my 12 strings has it's own little memory but the worst was "Pedro" the Mexican built beauty that I bought when I was about twenty. The salesman said it was built to be tuned to pitch and I foolishly believed him. Now the problem was that my girlfriend at the time felt (justifiably so) that we should be saving our money, so when I purchased "Pedro" I snuck him into a closet for the night, planning to tell her about it the next day.(after I had thought up some story to justify my purchase) About 5am, a noise like a bazooka woke everyone up with a start in our communal rooming house. People were searching everywhere for the source of the explosion......but in my heart I knew what it was. I let someone else find the broken pieces of wood and wire, but I had to own up to it. Needless to say I got yelled at, AND lost Pedro one day after buying him!"

Here's a Humble Request:

When someone gets the correct answer to a question, would the person who posed that question please indicate that [For example, see Alice's 09 Jul 06 - 02:46 PM post and catspaw49's 09 Jul 06 - 08:51 PM post etc. Others have also done so on this thread and the first Name that Mudcatter thread].

This is particularly helpful when the questions are either culturally based or based on past Mudcat experiences.

For instance, I gather that Guest 10 Jul 06 - 05:05 AM is saying that Teribus 10 Jul 06 - 01:17 AM was incorrect in his response to the question "No longer on the market, John Player thought so much of this member (as I also do) that they printed his name in gold letters on a green and white packet". But I'm not sure about that- in part {or in whole}- because I have no idea what "John Player {no longer on the market}" was.

Affirming that an answer is correct-when given- will make the work of compiling an edition of the Guide To The Perplexed easier for me or whoever else volunteers to do so as I [or that person] will be less perplexed by the responses to the questions.

For instance: It's a fac that the the merry month of May and the blessed month of June have passed and no one has guessed the correct response to this question:

So here's {some more} clues: This European wedding song is still sung now {at least a year or so ago I heard Seamus sing it when I attended a session he did in Pittsburgh. PA} and my mother or some one else taught me the handclap rhyme.

And this Mudcatter's name was listed on that "Mudcatter Met" thread {though I confess that I've not seen the name in many current threads}...

It seems to me that I've thrown out enough clues that someone with his or her thinking cap on-not to mention buckles down his or her back-should get this answer now.
