Subject: BS: WMDs in the Middle East From: GUEST Date: 12 Dec 06 - 08:14 PM JERUSALEM (AP) - A slip of the tongue by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert about Israel's nuclear policy ballooned into a domestic crisis Tuesday for the Israeli leader, who came under criticism from across the political spectrum. In an interview with a German television station broadcast Monday, Olmert appeared to list Israel among the world's nuclear powers, violating the country's long-standing policy of not officially acknowledging that it has atomic weapons.... http://apnews.myway.com/article/20061212/D8LVAPKG1.html So, if our criteria for invading in the Middle East is to deny dangerous nations nuclear weapons and such, and Israel just bombed the crap out of Lebanon, and now they admit they have nukes, shouldn't we be gearing up to thump Israel instead of Iran? Someone help me out on this. |
Subject: RE: BS: WMDs in the Middle East From: Adrianel Date: 12 Dec 06 - 08:46 PM I long ago came to the conclusion that Israel, and the support of the US for it ("your country, right or wrong") is the major cause of the Middle East's problems. |

Subject: RE: BS: WMDs in the Middle East From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 12 Dec 06 - 10:45 PM I was really hoping that Guest's bait would not have gotten any bites. The only way to beat the likes of him(or her) to to let his(or her) spit in the wind blow back on her(or him). |
Subject: RE: BS: WMDs in the Middle East From: Adrianel Date: 13 Dec 06 - 08:42 PM Bodad: If the US were to change its foreign policy from support for Israel mo matter what they do to one that is even slightly even-handed, it would be a great help. It would also make the US much less unpopular in the Middle East (not to mention Europe, South Asia &c.). Do you believe that blind support for Israel by the US government actually achieves anything constructive (apart from getting them the jewish vote at election time)? I suspect (cynic that I am) that fear of losing the Irish vote was the main reason no action was taken about US support for IRA terrorism for more than 30 years, while we had a couple of car bombs each week in London. |

Subject: RE: BS: WMDs in the Middle East From: bobad Date: 13 Dec 06 - 09:27 PM "Do you believe that blind support for Israel by the US government actually achieves anything constructive" Other than the continued existence of the state of Israel you mean? |
Subject: RE: BS: WMDs in the Middle East From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 13 Dec 06 - 10:17 PM Let me see if I understand your take on Mid-East problems, Adriane1. Support of Us for Israel and/or the existence, at all, of Israel is the reason that... Iraq attacked Iran in a protracted war after the betrayal of the Shah; Iraq attacked Kuwait; Sunnis and Shias are consistantly murdering each other; Lebanon was de facto annexed by Syria; Kurds are pariahs to both the Iraqis and Turks; The Taliban destroyed Buddhist statues in Afganistan. Get real! |
