This is good flippin' news! I can't pick up trash unders these kinda flippin' bad weatehr conditions, eh? I am stayin' in, gettin' drunk, and rentin' lotsa dirty movies with this card I found while I was, like, pickin' up the trash. Totally decent, eh? God must flippin' love me.

Don is busy as flip, poor guy. He's got a part time job plowin' snow now. Ha! Ha! Ha!

All screwin' around aside,

"The incoming weather is being caused by a cold air mass moving in from the Ohio Valley.

Environment Canada says the coldest air mass so far this season will move in behind the storm on Tuesday."

You be careful out there, all you guys and gals in the east.

Well they say we are going to get storms here (UK) on Thursday. If that's the storm you're getting in Canada on Tuesday, does that mean we'll be getting snow on Friday?

We got less at Goderich (Lake Huron) than those living further inland by the look of cars I've seen today. High schools were closed (busses couldn't run) but the elementary schools were operating. Two of my private music students came from out of town safely, but there was much less traffic than usual on the highways.

At least now there's a bit of ground cover for the gardens and dog deposits.

Peace, Mooh.

My four month old cat hadn't seen snow before today. He went out about four o'clock, came back in two minutes later, and proceeded to beat me about the ankles. He thinks I did it. He's still mad, sitting with his back to me on the couch.

I'm just hoping for the power to stay on - we lose it out here far too often.

Our younger son lives in East York, Ontario and we spoke to him and his girlfriend at Christmas. They had a green Christmas not a white one. Our Canadian grandcat will have cold paws.

It is currently close to -20°C here in eastern Ontario with a forecast low of -25°C tonight - that's the coldest we've had for a few years now - fortunately I have some nice hard maple wood for the stove, which I've been saving for just this situation, and will be nice and cozy tonight.

Well the geese have finally left. Up to yesterday morning a flock of 19 have been at the back of the house enjoying the open water.   I was thinking that I would have to chop them out of the ice this morning, but no. they have left. How far is the question. There was a flock of American Finches at the feeder and I swear to Christmas that one had all it's summer colors. Haven't seen the chipmunks in the past 2 days so that is good . I hope.
Have a great winter day.

Hey Chongo ... I thought you're New Years Resolution was to take a vow of silence for a year ... give up the booze, the cheap broads ... you know, discover your inner being.

Percy Saltzman ... not only did he introduce me to (when I was a very, very young lad)the varying degrees the Canadian weather patterns but also the appreciation of the world of abstract art.

In all sincerety may Percy find everlasting peace.

Why do I always take it that Sackville is in Nova Scotia. Probably because I think Lower Sackville should have something on top.

Raining here, and the lake, which has been frozen over for all of four days since last spring, already has big holes in it. Silver lining: the outdoor woodpile (what wouldn't fit in the shed) thawed enough for me to bring a big load in. Cat's mad at me again, as he blames me for the weather. My connection's down to 40 thou. (from 45 on a good day), and will get more unstable as everything gets wetter and windier.

Is "Port Albert" a dachshund? ;-) My point being, our dachshunds do NOT relish that romantic return to the squalls of nature! They do not savour the moment. No sir. It gets harder and harder to get those little weiners to go outside at all after the snow starts falling. They'd rather just use the rug or one of the legs on the dining room table.

Rosie has a little coyote with the springer and collie in her and she gets very(!) foxy in the bush. She likes to taste the bad weather until she's well and truly cold, longer if I'm out with her. Cosmo is a Lab/corgi and doesn't tolerate as much cold but still insists on going out in it, he's very brave as a rule.

Winter has arrived but it's a little weak compared to what we have had.

Peace, Mooh.

bobad...Yeah well, Cosmo is an odd one. Father was a Lab, mother a corgi, both pretty pure looking though not certified or whatever being farm dogs. The Corgi mother had nine largish pups (by C-section) competing for her milk, and her tits literally dragged on the ground. By the time we adopted him, he was ready to take on the world but met his match with Rosie who mothered him terribly, being a most gentle dog. We watched as Rosie literally showed Cosmo around the yard, taught him tug-of-war, grooming, fetch tricks, swimming hazards, and other mysteries of dogdom. He's got a kind of Lab body with short powerful legs, big bat ears, a HUGE tongue, big wet nose, heavy tail, thick neck, and a monster curiosity. Loves to burrow, dig, and swim, he's affectionate, and we think he's smart though the Lab silliness in him sometimes fools us. Eats like a cow. I know the description sounds grotesque, but he comes off looking cute.

Both dogs and the cat are black and white, more or less in the same places, and make quite a herd when they run around the house.

Peace, Mooh.

Our weather is supposedly moderating - but it's still snowing. It is not-quite-freezing at the moment.

My Cairn terrier loves the snow. She rolls in it, buries balls in it, tunnels in it. By the time she is finished she looks like a fullblown dandelion. Her coat is champagne, rather than tawny and she's not always easy to spot. At a distance she looks like a cloud squall at ground level.

101!!!

Explaination of urban foxes.

Due to the decline in natural prey and the ease of foraging for scraps in bins, foxes are moving into city areas. We have, nearby, a thing called 'The Greenway' - a green corridor that used to run from the edge of the City of London, all the way to Tilbury Docks. It's the line of the overground section of the Northern Outfall Sewer, taking waste from the centre and east of London to the swerage treatment plants at Stratford and Tilbury, built in the 1860's. There is still a green corridor between Bow and Becton.

Foxes move in from Epping Forest, Wanstead Flats and Hackney Marshes which is more their natural habitat, to inhabit this 'Greenway'. They keep the sewer rats down and supliment their diet with forgagings from local takeaway food outlets, rummaging in bin bags and gardens. It's not uncommon to see a fox trotting down the road early in the morning or hear one snuffling round the front garden at night. It'll be breeding season soon so we'll start to hear the vixens huffing (sort of like gruff barking) and the dog foxes yowling.

Yup, there are still big (B I G !) chunks of ice falling from the top of the Toronto CN tower (currently the tallest freestanding structure in the world). Some of the pieces are as big as cars!   They have streets cordoned off, so nobody's been hurt, but there are some cars in there getting pretty smashed up.

Beer, we got about 10 cm. which is rapidly melting in the bright sunshine, but I bet we'll have some of that Eastern Shore fog this evening. Kitty thinks snow is great fun, especially when trying to catch what's coming off the shovel, until his paws get wet and cold, at which time a great and pitiful mewing occurs.

I'm trying hard to be patient, but I'm gritting my teeth because my very good friend/neighbour, having had little chance to use his snowmobile this winter, has been running it up and down the lake for the past two hours. Given there are pools of water every three metres, I'm hoping he'll soon be wet enough to want to go in. The noise it makes is the worst kind. I'm convinced men hear differently than women, and don't actually hear the high overtones that make it so unpleasant.

Bears have been known to attack snowmobilers. I know exactly how they feel. The bears, I mean...

Goodonya, Beer. A river, eh? I've always wanted to live on a river, but the blackfly attacks in spring on local rivers are pretty daunting. I've canoed (okay, mostly drifted) half a dozen times down the Musquodoboit River in late May,and if yer one day off on fly-timing, they will go lookin' and only find your picked bones.

But I'd be thrilled to see a blackfly chewing on my arm about now...

Bee, I reckon it must be something to do with testosterone levels in males. Or is the size of the dick? I suspect if you don't have enough of it the noise made by snowmobiles (and trailbikes) must do something to help them compensate.

Cheers, Rowan

That's why the bears attack the snowmobilers! They're trying to hibernate, but they can't sleep through that awful noise. There's nothing crabbier than a bear that's been woken up by a snowmobile....although I've heard that creeping up on them and goosing them can have a similar effect.

Yeah. Just like the spots that arise on one's skin after exposure to poison ivy are pretty. Or the red bumps caused by crabs. Or the swelling associated with a bad histamine reaction, or the oozing gore when a hyena is able to grab the belly of a wounded gazelle, or the festering sores caused by scratching at the bites of black flies. There is a certain je ne sais pas quois to it all. Filthy %$#@&*% #$%@ that has nothing better to do than %$#@ up the roads and make them slippery. I just $%^#$%* love winter.

Peace's keyboard has obviously been corrupted.

And we had a sunny morning, 8 degrees, some little things sprouting spring-like in the garden, Eagle's back looking hopeful ('fraid he's outta luck, as the lake's still very frozen - no mergansers for him this spring). But I'm not gloating, no not me, about Upper Canadian sufferin'.

This may be a good thing. I got my car stuck in the soft mud in the side lane a few days ago. If it freezes solid, I will be able to get the car back on the paved road.

I'm in the same fix the German army was in in October '41. Stuck fast in the mud. They prayed for colder weather. When it came, it turned out to be even colder than what they'd had in mind, however.

The weather report for today is snow.
