"In the 1970s, Iain Russell collected a song entitled 'The Pear Tree' from Frank Hinchliff" above ~ had also been collected by Mike Yates, Rauiridh and Alvina Grieg 1976 per The English Folksinger ~ Collectors had been working from Leeds University LAVA I understand at the time Ray seems that it was also "known" in Scotland and I can only surmise that the song had "fetched" up from itinerant navvies working on reservoirs or dams in the Sheffield area ~ Frank was a farmer and had protected employment rights during the war, as did miners ~ so free time in the pub maybe on a Friday or Saturday nights for a sing!
