He then reiterated his opposition to the Obama administration policy, which requires health insurance plans to cover contraceptives for women.

On Wednesday, he called her a "slut" who "wants to be paid to have sex"; on Thursday, he said she was "having so much sex, it's amazing she can still walk"; and on Friday he said Ms. Fluke had testified that she was "having sex so frequently that she can't afford all the birth-control pills that she needs."

Thursday's comments included this:

So Miss Fluke, and the rest of you Feminazis, here's the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex. We want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch.

On Friday, he continued on the theme.

This of course in addition to his having his facts entirely mixed up.

I am outraged by Limbaugh's verbal vomit, but I hope he keeps it up. He has drawn attention to the underlying attitude towards women that is behind these efforts by conservative Republicans to limit contraception and abortion rights. He may have gotten a few laughs from the band of cretins that listen to his program, but he has provoked a strong backlash that will help the Democrats.

(CNN) - Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling Sandra Fluke a "slut" after the Georgetown law student advocated for contraception coverage in a Democratic hearing this week.

"My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir," Limbaugh said in a statement on his website. "I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices."

Guess the boycotted sponsors put their foot down.

Problem is there are a lot of folk out there who seem to take as gospel everything this guy says. They don't bother to find out for themselves whether he's telling the truth and that will colour the way that they vote come November.

The good thing about this is that he may have helped to wake a sleeping giant - women who might otherwise not take too much interest on what is going on in politics. I hope so.

I agree that Limbaugh has the right of free speech. I too have some rights and am exercising them. By the way, the sponsors who pulled ads have only done so "temporarily". My boycott is permanent.
As I have never set foot in a Walmart or Denny's, I can say that I will keep my word. I also will not have Sally Hanson's products in my home.
Does it help? It helps me sleep at night.
Limbaugh is a buffoon and I have up until now ignored his nonsense. Attacking a Congressional witness as a slut and prostitute crosses a line as did the Palin "cunt" comment. Both show a reprehensible contempt for women.
This latest slur following on the Komen Foundation booboo is bringing out the the Feminazi in me and finally younger women who take their current freedom and lifestyle for granted. Good on Rush!

Well, I've now read Ms Fluke's entire testimony before Congress. She evidently spoke in the name of having been" a past-president of Georgetown Law Students for Reproductive Justice or LSRJ."

Unless Limbaugh has staff that feed him selected cuts of her testimony- and he never bothered to read or hear her entire presentation, he knows full well that she never even spoke of herself or her sex life. Nor did she even mention sex life on campus. Her testimony was of health issues impacted by the cost of non-insured medicine that happen also to be used for birth control.

I agree that nailing his sponsors is good, but equally I'd call the radio stations and tell them that they will be losing you (whoever you are) as a listener.

I'll say one thing as a dad: talk like that about my daughters and you got major problems, and trust me, the law will be the least of them. In fact, you'll be real happy to see a cop or two.

I'd ask one thing because I don't know: what does the FCC actually do? Has America gone so far downhill that garbage is on its radio (and presumably TV) shows? How did this happen?

The anger from both Bekka and Penny (who seemed so angry they didn't know whether to poop, wind their watches or steal third) is real, and I hope if I was a woman I'd feel the same. This guy has gotta go, but as important is that he cannot be replaced by another like him.

It is my understanding that the first amendment was meant to protect one's right to address or redress a grievance in public while protecting the individual who grieves. It never had the intent to allow this type of hatred to be foisted on the public and in doing so allow a wrong to be perpetrated. A wrong HAS been perpetrated, and Rush Limbaugh is guilty of doing just that.

He is disgusting and so much beneath contempt that his name should disappear. Along with his diatribe and his ilk. I hope he has, by saying what he did, awakened America to the deadly disease it has within. There is NO time left for complacency. Speak as you can or will, but for fuck sake, speak!

I can't/won't "boycott" all of Rush's sponsors because some of the ones I do patronize also sponsor shows like Thom Hartmann's, Ed Schultz's, and other progressive talk shows.

Nor would I call for him to be suspended or censured - except to the extent that other radio personalities such as Don Imus and Ed Schultz were. Imus was fired for calling the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed ho's" and Ed got a temporary suspension (followed by a sincere apology) for calling Laura Ingrahm (sp?) a "slut" (meaning she was prostituting herself politically, much the way Mike Papantonio calls corporate-paid scientists "biostitutes").

Thing is, Rush's outrageous tirade against Susan Fluke does not in any way represent either his personal views nor his knowledge (or ignorance) of the facts of the matter.   
He's a shock jock who fancies himself a humorist and justifies spewing the most ignorant, inflammatory bile, for media attention, on those grounds.

There is no way that he does not know that
a) Susan Fluke did not testify to ask for birth control for herself, nor did she even mention her own sex life or lack thereof

b) The amount of oral contraceptive you need does not depend on how often you have sex,

c) Having sex often & using birth control does not imply more than one partner or not being married,

d) Oral contraceptives are prescribed for many health issues not connected to having sex, and

e) The woman Fluke testified about who lost an ovary because her employer's health insurance would not cover the oral contraceptive prescribed for ovarian cysts is a lesbian, so she would not have been using the hormonal meds to prevent pregnancy

f) Health insurance companies paying for medicines is not "welfare" or "at taxpayers' expense."


Rush knows all that. Plus, given that he's been married several times and recently flew to the Caribbean with a lot of Viagra in his luggage and has no children (that he acknowledges anyway), it's a safe bet that he's either shooting blanks (vasectomy?) or makes use of some form of contraception rather often.


No, for him it's all about being outrageous for the ratings.   I'd just like for him to be held to the same standard that other shock jocks and talking head are.
