I will patiently await the parcel from the elvi. sandra (who never goes walkabout, just on occasional short, planned walks) |

Those clever elves have finally fixed the old computer and I'm back on line in time to tell you that Rudolph is en route to you with your package. Actually, he's en route with half of your present as the other part was discovered in the bottom of the present sack and is being sent by an elf with a rocket up its jacksie... (Is that un-pc? Don't want an un-pc santa!) Hope it arrives in one piece love Santa - who is still watching your every move |

Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008 From: GUEST,Barb'ry's Steadfast Secret Santa Date: 08 Dec 08 - 11:14 AM Well, my dear, the elves have been working very hard to find the best presents they can considering the constraints on the North Pole Exchequer this year. And a bundle of goodies is on its way to you, clearly identifiable by the words "A Secret Santa" on the outside of the package. Do not be taken in by the box, which was simply a convenient way of holding things together. If you wish to open one or two things before Christmas Day, that's between you and your conscience. I've called off the surveillance team - they're far more active now in the Palace of Westminster, dealing with all sorts of ruffians. And a very Happy Christmas to you and yours ... ho, ho, ho! (now back to stroking my luxuriant white beard and snowy locks). |
Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 07 Dec 08 - 08:58 PM Don't worry too much, there are several silent Santees and Santas this year, but then, the 'Cat bouncing around like a rubber man in a pogo stick shop hasn't helped. Three packages sent on from the east London branch this week, hope they make it in time! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008 From: GUEST,Tabster's Tired Santa Date: 02 Dec 08 - 05:56 PM Well, I'm finally finished - with your present, at least. The usual last minute snags, of course. I had every intention of dropping it off on Christmas Eve, when I make my usual rounds, when I had a visit from the head of the Reindeer Union. Seems that your area is under an aircraft warning, and the reindeer refuse to fly there out of fear of being eaten - something about a giant red dragon? As a result, I was forced to consign your gift to the capable hands of the Post, and I was assured that it should arrive sometime between next Monday and St. Dwyn's Day. The box itself may be opened - the contents are individually wrapped. You should, of course, wait until Christmas or the solstice holiday of your choice to open the obvious gifts - with one exception. There is a small package wrapped in foil from Mrs. Claus that should be opened (and consumed) promptly. The packing material has been carefully selected for your enjoyment. Are there really dragons in your neighborhood? Would they be interested in hiring on? I can't pay much, but I will supply all of the reindeer they can eat - the buggers breed like mad, and I'm only allowed to keep twelve at any given time. |

I've got plenty of Magpies so there's something I don't need. I do love things like bits and pieces from where you are -- free stuff or thrift shop stuff. I'm a bit of a Magpie myself. Thank you for your thoughts. I'm very easy to please. I just love presents. Cheers, Joy |

Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008 From: John MacKenzie Date: 01 Dec 08 - 10:25 AM A Christmas Story for people having a bad day: When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure. Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where. Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered. Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?' And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas |

I have read some Gardner as well -- I think, even that one -- but haven't heard of the first two. I shall hie me to an online bookseller posthaste. I shall be watching out for your visit come Yule, and I promise that your treat will be savoury and as yummy as I can manage. Your grateful-in-anticipation ursine, Claire |

Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008 From: GUEST,ClaireBear's much chastised Secret Santa Date: 30 Nov 08 - 07:10 PM Dear ClaireBear Thank you for your letter. I do like the idea of things other than cookies. You are correct in the fact I eat far too many of them on my run. I am at the moment in BIG trouble with Mrs Claus. When I started looking for books you would like I started reading all my favourites and she couldn't get me to do anything. She has now confiscated them and locked the book store :-( Since she won't let me have the key I decided I'd better send you a list which you might appreciate - all would be suitable for you and cub and most of them are the first one of a series. Pure Dead Magic - Debi Gliori The Whitby Witches - Robin Jarvis Weirdstone of Birsingamon - Alan Garder A Wizard of Earthsea - Ursula Le Guin I know you can get them on Abebooks on your computer. Hope you will try some of them. Now that I can't spend my time reading I really must get your parcel packed up and sent. Watch out for it arriving about Yule Lots of love and hugs xxxxxx |

I thought not! Three of my gnomes headed in your direction a while ago and it seems as if they're lost in the outback. I know one's a bit on the slow side so he might still be travelling but maybe you could keep a lookout for the other two before the final one sets off for the reindeer-port? Wouldn't want all four wandering around, they might not come back for work next year! |

Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008 From: bfdk Date: 25 Nov 08 - 05:33 PM Oooooh Santa, it seems thou Dare to be honest and fear no labor. Explanations needed, eh? So, I guess I won't be getting new feet after all.. I'd know what to do with those. They probably wouldn't be needing padding, either ;-) Now, how about a few hints, Santa dear? Robbie Burns birthday is still a couple of months away, so does that mean you live far from me? Or does it mean that you spent so much on my pressie that you had to send it by slow elf mail instead of raindeer express? Oh, no, please don't tell me you hired that elf I had employed last year? I'm telling you, he thought the direct route from here to Orkney was via China and Australia.. Anyway, patiently but eagerly awaiting your communications, Santa, and I hope you'll have a jolly festive season in your little corner of the world. Best wishes, Bente (still well behaved, whatever that means) |

Now all I have to do is put bows 'n stuff on them and maybe write some clever explanations. (Explanations for Christmas presents?!? Yeah, sometimes a good idea.) Then package them up with plenty of padding for the trip and entrust them to the local postal authorities. Looks like you might receive the whole kit and caboodle well before Robert Burns' birthday if this keeps up! SS |

But it was postmarked St Petersburg, Fl. what with Graceland being in Memphis, Tennessee, 860 miles from St Petersburg, Fl, that makes a very long trip, but as elvi could fly all around the world on their hunt for goodies, perhaps it's not so far. thank you elvi & santa! sandra (trying to find somewhere to put the new postcard on a crowded desk with postcard-covered walls. Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008 From: Hollowfox Date: 19 Nov 08 - 04:45 PM Oh My Dear Secret Santa! I don't know how I missed your message from late October. No, I wasn't studying my workmate's, er, educational cards and literature (she said, batting her eyes demurely). Honest, I was just trying to help out a fellow librarian! All right, I did count it as a reference question for the monthly statistics, but I never even saw the goods. Really. As for those wonderful cards you posted, I have the older ones, and Guide Cats II as well. {Many thanks to Camsco and Old Songs Folk Festival}. I'm drooling over the newer titles, though. Belive me, I study such of those cards as I have, and review them regularly. |

Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008 From: ClaireBear Date: 19 Nov 08 - 01:10 PM Dear Santa, I am very much looking forward to your arrival this Christmas, and I would like to make sure that your brief stay is a comfortable one. At our house there is a tradition of putting out cheese, crackers and salame (or sometimes a square of lasagne) for Santa, accompanied by a glass of red wine; we figure that by the time Santa arrives in California, he has probably had enough cookies and cocoa to last a lifetime. Just wondering if that will be acceptable to you, or if there is something else you'd prefer we leave on the work table for your midnight snack? Your friend, ClaireBear PS There shoud be plenty of late-season apples and persimmons in the orchard for the reindeer, and there's a salt lick out there for them too. Much better for them than eggnog, don't you think? |
