Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,In My Humble Opinion Date: 16 Jul 08 - 11:56 AM The Kate Rusby/Steve Knightley version of High Germany is available as a downloadable MP3 on the SOH website Steve Knightley Songbook |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Kevin Parker Date: 16 Jul 08 - 06:40 AM All you KR fans may not be familiar with the version of High Germany she recorded some 10 years ago with Steve Knightly, Phil Beer and Andy Cutting. It's on the Show of Hands album Dark Fields, but its also on Youtube, used in a somewhat different context. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iyyk3_bZ8Kc I love the contrast between the male and female voices here and the way they intertwine in the middle of the song. Some beautiful playing as well. |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: Pete_Standing Date: 29 Apr 08 - 12:48 PM I think she had one on her piano because she doesn't need a tall stand and my understanding is that the solid fan base is just too large for the venue. I think her brother probably doubled as the white-fan man. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: rabbitlegs Date: 29 Apr 08 - 10:09 AM Was it on a tall stand or on the floor because she has a solid fan base. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: Pete_Standing Date: 29 Apr 08 - 09:55 AM When I saw her in Oxford at what was until recently the Zodiac but now re-named Carling Academy, must be 10 years ago, she was performing by herself, although she had her brother doing the sound. She used a fan that night and very effective it was too. |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: Georgiansilver Date: 28 Apr 08 - 01:47 PM Yes Sal...a lot of us men do like Kate Rusby......for whatever our reasons......made mine clear early on the thread. We Lincolnshire 'Backwoodsmen' have been accused of being perverted because we admit to not just liking the voices of some women who sing but find them attractive too. At 60, I am glad I still find women attractive....... |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,The Mole Catcher's unplugged Apprentice Date: 28 Apr 08 - 01:42 PM "Can we count how many men have posted here?" remind me again what the point is to this remark, I know of women, me included, who like Kate Rusby and her music Charlotte R |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,The Input Date: 28 Apr 08 - 11:44 AM Loved Kate since the KR + KR days. Easily the best she's done along with Poozies stuff. One thing that does annoy me though. Having seen Kate live many times, I'm bored rigid with the silly little professional Yorkshire lass routine. I feel like throwing up whenever I hear it. Treat us like adults Kate, most of us are! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: quokka Date: 28 Apr 08 - 11:35 AM Little Lights is my favourite. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Castic444 Date: 03 Apr 08 - 09:32 PM Good repetition works for me too. One thing I like is the whole melodic and harmonic feeling. The arrangements are really beautiful and it gives me that great tingly good music goose bump feeling. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Terp Date: 03 Apr 08 - 06:33 PM I've got Hourglass, Underneath the Stars, and Little Lights and like them all but tend to listen to UtS the most. I think they're all kind of similar in a way (and that's ain't a bad thing when it's all so damn good) but all have very interesting arrangements. Favorite songs seem to be Matt Hyland, The Blind Harper and The Drowned Lovers. T Oh, and her version of VGPS is absolutely charming. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Castic444 Date: 03 Apr 08 - 04:55 PM I agree. In America, everyone is all "You must like hiphop or you have no life!" It drives me insane, because I want to like what I want to like. People just have problems leaving other people alone! Kate Rusby |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Ed Date: 03 Apr 08 - 04:09 PM Well said, The Villan. There's far too much snobbery and being told what we 'should' like around here (UK posters) |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: Rasener Date: 03 Apr 08 - 03:42 PM If you like what Kate does, then enjoy and bollocks to anybody else. I like what she does as well as liking what many other performers do. I couldn't give a toss, if nobody else likes what I like. My wife and daughters don't like what I like. That doesn't stop me listening or going to see who I like. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Marmaduke Date: 03 Apr 08 - 03:31 PM I agree. Completely. Cowsong is one of my ultimate favs. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Yea Date: 02 Apr 08 - 02:54 PM I think that's a great thing. She's certainly given me much pleasure! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: Pete_Standing Date: 02 Apr 08 - 04:27 AM I'm with Ed. I started off an admirer, thought Hourglass was quite a good album. However, I became dis-illusioned with the second album and further disappointed after seeing her at a lacklustre gig with JM and AC - now I know you can't base an opinion on one gig, but I had seen her before. For me, and I stress for me, the sound and approach is two-dimensional in both the arrangments/material and the singing. On the same score I don't expect anyone to share my tastes. Kate has done well and she has given much pleasure to many people, that's a good thing, isn't it? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: rabbitlegs Date: 02 Apr 08 - 03:48 AM Oh no, don't go listening to albums backwards, ye'll get the devil in yer! Although that may have been Klingon for 'Isn't nice when we're all friends'. |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: harpmolly Date: 01 Apr 08 - 11:03 PM Hey, a civilized Kate Rusby thread! Woohoo! O frabjous day! :D On the subject of her upbeat tunes, it's true she tends to stick with slower stuff, but I definitely think she's done some nifty quicker songs. In particular, "The Blind Harper" from Underneath the Stars, and "Hunting the Hare" from the Rusby/Roberts album are two uptempo favorites. And I do agree that sometimes the songs fall into a certain sameyness (as we've noted before) but every album always has at least a gem or two, no matter what. Her duet with Tim O'Brien on "Sleepless" still makes chills run up and down my spine, and the duet with Chris Thile on Awkward Annie is just delicious...their voices together are wonderful. IMHO of course. "There was a little girl, who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead. When she was good she was very, very good...and when she was bad, she was still pretty damned good!" ;) Anyway, I definitely want to join. What's the secret handshake? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST Date: 01 Apr 08 - 10:23 PM Underneath the Stars is a great album as well. It has some of my personal favorites on it. Isn't it great that Ian Carr has been with her for her whole career? He is so cute on the "Live at Leeds" DVD. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Bojo Date: 01 Apr 08 - 05:31 PM perhaps. it really depends on what you're looking for. but it does have some really wonderful songs on it. "Drowned Lovers" for instance, is a favorite of mine. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST,Ed Date: 01 Apr 08 - 05:20 PM <>Kate managed that with "Stretched out on your grave", an extraordinary song in my opinion. Exactly. Hourglass is her best work |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: Pete_Standing Date: 01 Apr 08 - 04:51 PM You don't need electric guitar, bass or drums to do something radical or different, in fact you could use those instruments and still come up with something that has the same feel. It is approach, interpretation, mood, dynamics, tempo that makes the difference. Kate managed that with "Stretched out on your grave", an extraordinary song in my opinion. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST Date: 01 Apr 08 - 04:39 PM I agree with you, irishenglish. But I really love them all. It's very hard for me to decide. KateRusby FanForum |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: irishenglish Date: 01 Apr 08 - 04:33 PM Dunno, but I quite like Underneath The Stars a lot, and today I just picked up Little Lights to listen to for the first time in awhile, which sounded pretty good too. |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: GUEST Date: 01 Apr 08 - 02:47 PM yeah. I love Village Green, like I said. You Belong to Me is really pretty. It was also on the Shrek soundtrack. That's how I knew it before I heard it on her album. Anyway, the link for the FanForum is http://katerusby.forumsland.com |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby Fan Discussion From: Georgiansilver Date: 01 Apr 08 - 02:43 PM You can watch her at any time on Youtube....I like the Village Green Preservation Society but even more the song written by Ms Chilton Price...'You Belong to Me'.....Lovely girl, lovely voice, good pereformer. |

So, if you make a Kate Rusby fan video, you can post a link to it so that other fans can watch it. You should take a look though, it's pretty cool. |
