To the tune Sonny Boy

Climb up on your throne Charlie boy!
For once try not to moan, Charlie boy!
The hole in the sky's still growing
The third world debt's still growing
But you're rich, and so's your bitch!
Okay? Sonny boy?

When there is malice
You've still got your palace
You're still very rich
Charlie Boy!

Subject: ADD: Coronation Blues - Charles III
From: Joe Offer
Date: 25 May 23 - 02:28 AM

Gayle Wade sent me these lyrics:

CORONATION BLUES
(songwriter: ???)

Woke up this morning,
Tumbled out of bed;
Pa’s going to the Abbey
Have a crown put on his head
Oh-oh yea, they’re gonna put it on his head.
No one’s gonna crown me unless half my family drops dead.

CHORUS:
I’ve got the coronation blues
It’s driving me insane.
The coronation blues
I want you all to feel my pain.
Oh yes, I’ve got the coronation blues

It’s no fun being ginger,
It’s no fun being spare
But like I tell my brother –
At least I’ve got my hair!
Oh-oh yeah I’ve got a lovely head of hair!
Nobody calls me baldy; the royal heir is short of hair.

My missus stayed at home;
She isn’t here to sit by me.
She’s made it pretty clear
That she don’t like my family
Oh-oh no, she doesn’t like my family.
The smoke of burning bridges hangs around both her and me.

CHORUS:

That woman with the crown on,
She shouldn’t be the Queen,
My Mum’s the Queen – the Queen of Hearts!
That’s how it should have been.
Oh-oh yeah, that’s how it really should have been.
Pa should have loved her better, didn’t have to treat her mean.

I’m leaving in the morning,
I’m leaving on a plane,
I’m getting out of this old town
And I won’t be back again.
Oh-oh no, you’ll never see me back again.
I’m staying in America to get away from this hard reign.

CHORUS:
I’ve got the coronation blues
It’s driving me insane.
The coronation blues
I want you all to feel my pain.
Oh no, nobody’s gonna crown me …
I’ve got the coronation blues

From Arthur McBride - a song that led me to 'Rise Up Singing'

"Good morning, good morning, " the sergeant did cry
"And the same to you gentlemen, " we did reply
"Intending no harm but meant to pass by"
"For it being on christmas morning"
But says he, "My fine fellows if you would enlist"
"It's ten guineas of gold I will slip in your fist"
"And a crown in the bargain for to kick up the dust"
"And drink the king's health in the morning"

"For a soldier he leads a very fine life"
"And he always is blessed with a charming young wife"
"And he pays all his debts without sorrow and strife"
"And always lives pleasant and charming"
"And a soldier he always is decent and clean"
"In the finest of clothing he is constantly seen"
"While other poor fellows go dirty and mean"
"And sup on thin gruel in the morning"

But says Arthur, "I wouldn't be proud of your clothes"
"For you've only the lend of them as I suppose"
"And you dare not change them one night for you know"
"If you do you'll be flogged in the morning"
"And although that we are single and free"
"We take great delight in our own company"
"And we have no desires strange faces to see"
"Although that your offers are charming"

not a monarchist

With the implication, I take it, that the REAL, de iure, Charles III of Great Britain actually died in 1788. Perhaps, given his interest in learning from many sources (about "faiths", for instance), an appropriate, indeed a fitting, title for the current illegitimate usurper might be "Charles the Absorbent". Quite closely, indeed snugly and comfortably, fitting, some might recognise, given his recorded views.

Gallus Moll, I take no responsibility for any arrests that may occur as a result of the use of this chant! I am not OTT about being Scottish -but on this occasion especially, the sentiment and unity expressed would bring a tear to a glass eye. I am proud of them all! Ha!

To the tune you cannae shove yer grannie off a bus. It works better with a Glasgow accent.   Viral football chant. Glasgow Celtic started it. This has united rival football fans on Twitter.   Many of us Scots are up in arms about the cheek of being asked to swear a nauseating oath of allegiance to old jug ears and his hatchet faced wife, in a blatant propaganda gesture. The result is what was was heard on the terraces today.

Oh you can shove yer Coronation up yer arse.
you can shove yer Coronation up yer arse.
You can shove yer coronation
Shove yer coronation
Shove yer coronation up yer arse.

Repeat until fed up or if in the street in front of police, possibly arrested.

On which subject, I sang Jim McLean's "King Charles, King Charles, you say that you care" to the tune of the nursery rhyme Sweet Mary (Adew Dundee family of tunes, I think?) in public and the audience enjoyed it. I've also done Vic Gammon's Kings and Queens of England several times now and got positive responses.

Apart from the two mentioned so far, there are plenty of “Charlie” songs relating to Bonnie Prince Charlie. How about “Boat me oe’er to Charlie” or “Come O’er the Stream Charlie and dine wi’ Maclean”? I don’t think Jim McLean would be too keen on such a meeting!

Don't worry if Coopers of Stortford run out of tat, Steve, you can always resort to the middle aisle at Aldi LidldiAldi LidldiAldi Lidldidee. Don't forget to buy face paint:

"Please trip them gently, they don't like to fall, oh by jingo
There's no room for anger, we're all very small, oh by jingo
We're painting our faces and dressing in thoughts from the skies, from paradise
But they think that we're holding a secretive ball
Won't someone invite them
They're just taller children (ooh) that's all, after all"

I sang Vic Gammon's Kings and Queens of England out in public last week and everyone loved it, so I'll sing it again (I'm available for coronations, funerals, and revolutions). I would've sung JimMcLean's "King Charles, King Charles, you say that you care" too but I did requests instead, so I still have to try that out.

Any more songs? Only a month to get them out of your system folks!

For the whole of my life until now I've been reluctantly under a queen. Utterly conditioned by the notion. I can't get to grips with this "King Charles" business. He's always been Charlie-boy Big Ears to me. Every time I hear someone say "King Charles," or "KC" instead of "QC," or just "the King" I think to myself, "Who?"

Is it just me? How long will it take? Maybe I should write a song about it...

THE KINGS AND QUEENS OF ENGLAND, by Vic Gammon

Charles the Second had eleven bastard children and
       George the Third went mad
Edward the Seventh they think was Jack the Ripper and
Richard the Third weren't as bad (as Shakespeare said he was)
Victoria lay back and thought of England
Charles the First lost his head
The best thing about the kings and queens of England is that
       Most of them are dead

Singing Rule Britannia, Britannia waives the rules,
Kings, Queens, Knaves and Jacks and tyrants, cheats and fools

William the Third was a Protestant and Dutch man and
James the First was a Scot
George the First spoke nothing else but German
What a mixed up, interbred lot!
William the First was grasping Norman bastard
And not one word is a lie
There hasn't been an English king of England
Since Harold got one in the eye

She was a well-heeled, blue blood Cinderella
Him Prince Charming with big ears
But he had a thing going with the ugly sister.
So it ended all in tears
Arise now you ghosts of old Oliver Cromwell
       Brave Harrison and Tom Paine
Rid our land of this monstrous carbuncle
Bring sunshine after the reign

Performed by Pete Coe, with his version of the lyrics in the amusing video:

I'm surprised there's not been mention of Les Barker and his songs on the subjects, sorry, on the rulers. I don't have a full list but I'm sure mudcatters can help:

Bohemian Royalty (Bohemian Rhapsody) in Labrador Rigby

Camilla (Maria, from West Side Story) in Beyond our Cairn

The Lady's on a Stamp (The Lady is a Tramp) in Bark to Front

There are no Guards at Buckingham Palace (They're Changing Guards at Buckingham Palace) in Beagles, Bangles and Beads

Old Queen Mother (Old Man River) in Pekinese up Mother Brown

Oh my name it is King Charles King of Greens
Oh my name it is King Charles and I've always talked to trees
And the state will pay for all when I die, when I die
And the state will pay for all when I die

I have 90 GRAND in store, that's not all, that's not all
I have 90 GRAND in store, that's not all
I have 90 GRAND in store and I'll ask for ninety more
For the state must pay its dues, no not I, no not I
For the state must pay its dues, no not I

Oh they took me to The Abbey in a car, in a car
Oh they took me to The Abbey in a car
Oh they took me to The Abbey where I stopped to talk more crap
Saying the best of friends must fart, so must I, so must I
Saying the best of friends must fart, so must I

With Camilla I did grope, that's no joke, that's no joke
With Camilla I did grope, that's no joke
With Camiila I did grope and the hangman pulled the rope
And ne'er a word I spoke, tumbling down, tumbling down
And ne'er a word I spoke tumbling down

I haven't got a song to suggest but here is a new dance that I suggest could be danced at the many barn dances that there will be to celebrate the coronation.
Dance Title The Duke & Duchess of Sussex
Tunes Very fast reels
Format Longways for as Many as Will
Movements -
A1 Top couple (who are Harry and Meghan) galop down the set and out of the hall
A2 Top couple increase their pace and galop in a westerly direction.
B1 Top couple continue their galop though by now they are crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
B2 Top couple continue galoping until they reach Montecito.
