Terribly kind of the Blackhawks to win at our first opportunity to hear them on Chicago radio, online (last night). Been unable to follow them since, um... the Esposito years, so we have a lot of catching up to do. Nice thing is, the NHL is so motivated to recapture fans, there's tons of free multimedia stuff at various sites, to get with the program.

Or I should say, it's free THIS year....

Steve,   Johnny Bower was great. Turned on the t.v. this morning and here was an interview taking place with another great Jean Beleveau. Also showing age. What a great person. He was asked what was your greatest moment in hockey (10 stanly cups). His reply was being named Team Captian by his players.

Thanks for that link. I haven't heard that in years. I'll have to send the link to my mom, she would love to hear it again. I saw Johnny Bower on T.V. recently. Boy, he is looking old. I guess he's in his eighties now, although you're never quite sure with him. What a remarkable athlete he was. (Thank goodness, because I don't think that "Honky" frightened Sinatra very much).

Leafs 9-1 over Atlanta. Sounds like the end of it was something out of the Broad Street Bullies era. Too bad, the game doesn't need that again.

Sounds like the Flyers-Pens game was really exciting.

Funny you should say that about Shack. He brought the 'oldtimers' into Hinton a few years back and our fire department played the team. It was a fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy--a cause supported by many FDs in North America--and everyone had a blast. Eddie and the guys and gals put on one heckuva show.

Hey, I just realized that if I wanted to, I could see a hockey game live. I'm now living in Santa Clara, which is next door to San Jose. And I've heard that for some inexplicable reason they have a hockey team there. Not sure it's the NHL, though...I checked the schedule and they're playing these teams with weird names like Wild and Thrashers. Now I know that there are people who thought the NHL went irretrievably downhill in 1967 when they expanded beyond the Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Bruins, Red Wings, Rangers, and Black Hawks...but I think they've gone way over the edge. (Actually I thought naming a team after a movie was way over the edge...especially in a town where Santa Claus wears shorts and sunglasses.)

Okay. Another hint.... Remember how Serge Savard use to suck wind at the end of every shift like he was going to fucking die? It was one of the best parts of the game watching old numero dix-huit trying to catch his breath on the bench. GRANTED, he was a rather big lad compared to the one in the pic.

Ya know, I could be wrong about who No 18 is.... it's a black and white pic.... but, I am pretty sure I know who No 26 is. And, they both retired with the same team. Then again, I am not in any shape to discern details. So... I could be completely wrong. But... tis up to you to prove it.

I like the flow of the game now, with the crackdown on obstruction. Most of the new rules get a thumbs up except for the shootout.

I don't mind the shootout itself but it isn't the way to award points in the standings in my opinion. I have no issue with ties, the quality of play dictates the entertainment value more than the scoreboard.

I wasn't sure I would even follow the game again after the long layoff and the last few seasons of defensive play but I have the bug again.

I was a Pens fan but not sure anymore. I'm probably best described as just a hockey fan. :)

I heard that Tronna's best player got a puck in the face and his return is indefinite. "Indefinite"… sure sounds to me like he's pucked. Then I was told it's that big Swedish guy, from Sweden. The Captain, of the Maple Leafs, is from Sweden... one of them guys what made Wayne cry on the TV. I decided to investigate.

THIRTY teams? 30!!! No wonder the playoffs don't start until almost May. Anyway, I checked the roster on all the Canadian teams... Tronna, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and San Hoser.
I figger since Montreal is Yankee owned, and since they got less than half as many Canadians on their team as San Hoser, I kin substitute.

So.... I thought when I said Tronna, I was pickin a Canadian team. Come ta find out, the most Canadian team is Les Flames. Now. I dunno about the name. I mean, is that ta do with yer oil and gas wells flamin er is it fer wearin panty hose fer ta keep from gettin hamstring pulls... er other pulls?

Anyway, I will stick Tronna up if them's the rules, but, if I can change, I'd like ta pick the Flamin Hosers. No, not Vancouver... they don't list their players' countries of originality, on accounta they are so aggressive with they're political errectness. Aparrently, same with the Penguins. Of course, they got Sydney, so I will be cheering for them as well... to a point.

Interesting that the Leafs went with the rookie in Goal last night. He looked good. I don't think that the Eagle has looked like himself yet, although I didn't see the first game against the Sens.
