Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Eric the Viking Date: 19 Sep 00 - 06:45 AM I am sure to get there at sometime on friday evening though I won't leave until about five O clock. I luv, luv curry (made without packets-I cook my own and grind my onw herbs and spices even) I have as yet no decision on where or how I am sleeping. Any sensible suggestions, welcome- Shut up Skip-I am not sleeping in the stream!! Any ideas please- I am clean, well mannered, don't drink much, don't puke, fall over and sing drunkenly-sober is bad enough. But I smoke-that dreaded word. People prefer Lepers to smokers nowadays!! Cheers. Eric |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Llanfair Date: 17 Sep 00 - 06:16 PM I don't know about losing the thread, Gomez, I suspect you've lost the plot!!!!! I've been down to the pub tonight for the pub quiz. (did we win?, course we did, Ashdale Academicals are Ace!!!!) Anyway, telling people about the weekend, we've had loads of offers of beds, floor space, and any help that we need. People are very keen to come and dance on the Saturday night, so there should be a good crowd. Talk to you soon, Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Gomez Date: 17 Sep 00 - 05:27 PM Trilogy or not, no one can be really prepared for this event. I have a contact at Heathrow who can supply swiss army knives with kitchen, bedroom, toilet and petrol-station blades attached, available this week only at the low, low introductory price of £19.99.99 etc(no warranty or delivery) but I told her she'd be wasting her time at Llanstock. She's gone back to her distributors with a remit for instant dehydration (just add water, save a fortune on alcohol), horse-sedatives (for the locals) and wind-breaks (post-curry defenses). Bron will no doubt already have all of the above on site on arrival but there's no way of knowing how long stocks will last. >br (for those, like me, who have lost the thread) |

Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Catrin Date: 15 Sep 00 - 11:54 AM A curry - yummy! Carniverous moi! and I expect to be hungry. I am a curry lover who spends far too much time lurking in Russholme! Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Skipjack K8 Date: 15 Sep 00 - 11:29 AM I'm coming via Bradford, curry capital of the world (I'll brook no argument!) to have a Welsh curry on Friday night, yes please!! Any mammal welcome, but go easy on the thymus, spleen and sweetbreads! Skipjack |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Llanfair Date: 15 Sep 00 - 08:14 AM I allow 2 hours from Altrincham, but that's with Aged P's on board who need to stop halfway for cups of tea and loos. I go via Chester, Wrexham, Oswestry, Welshpool, Llanfair. There is a shortcut from Llynclys, just outside Oswestry, but you'll need to check your map. Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Noreen Date: 15 Sep 00 - 08:06 AM Hi Bron, Catrin and I will be there Friday night. Can't speak for Catrin but I'm an omnivore! Curry's a great idea. About how long will it take to get to you from Manchester? BTW, back seat of car is free if anyone wants a lift from the Manchester area- or can arrange to pick up on the way. Noreen |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Llanfair Date: 14 Sep 00 - 07:16 PM Can I have some idea of how many people are planning to arrive on the Friday night. Buff is planning to have a curry ready for people who have travelled a long way, and needs to know how much to make. Please indicate if you or yours are veggie. Ta, Bron. |

Get back to me. you can email me here; eric@lackford20.freeserve.co.uk (don't know why this hasn't gone blue clicky thing) Here watch that stone circle thing, next thing you'll know some of them will have their clothes off and start dancing round it-fertility rites etc. Skipjacks already got three kids and says his thing is as hard as an ironing board( what was it you said Skip?) Fertily. Eric |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Catrin Date: 14 Sep 00 - 08:33 AM OK Gomez - Here goes
Oh!.. the joys and frustrations of mudcat (Copyright Gomez/Catrin productions, Sep 2000) So, who's next? |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Noreen Date: 14 Sep 00 - 07:32 AM Gomez, for a livelier rendition of said words, try 'The Mexican Hat Dance'! That's what your words asked for when I read them... and everywhere will there be song and celebration? Bron, the picnic lunch by the river will be lovely- and we can always get dry later! You're doin' good. Noreen |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Skipjack K8 Date: 14 Sep 00 - 07:32 AM Baggie, Eric the Viking is near you, & he's already said he'd do some haulage. I am too, but I'm going earlier to see some Welsh punters (work), and I will probably have Bill with me, plus various musical paraphenalia. Skipjack |

Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: GUEST,Sam Pirt Date: 14 Sep 00 - 07:06 AM Hi Sorry I haven't inputted into this thread earlier. I alway like a good tune and a celidh dance. Sounds good to me. I am looking forward to meeting all the fellow catters. The CD sounds a nice idea. Why not throughout the celidh (if it happens) you give catters the chance to perform while the dancers are having a rest, only brife 1 or 2 numbers at the most. Only if they want to. Then everyone would get the chance to see each catter in a slightly different light than say a normal music session as I know that often people have a hidden reportore that only veers its head in such cercumstances. Cheers, Sam |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Llanfair Date: 14 Sep 00 - 07:04 AM Oh, Skipjack, THAT'S not unusual enough for the County Times. Now losing the key to the Institute......THAT'S unusual!"!!!! "grin" Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Skipjack K8 Date: 14 Sep 00 - 05:47 AM The CD of the story of the song of the belly dancing ceilidh in the stone circle. Just wait for the report in the Llanfair Telegraph. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: GUEST,KingBrilliant Date: 14 Sep 00 - 04:57 AM The stone circle sounds amazing! An idea of great genius I reckon. I've convinced Mark that we need to come, and now we're just down to camping vs B&B. Kris |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Llanfair Date: 14 Sep 00 - 04:47 AM That's great, Bill. I think the ceilidh is now a dead cert!! Gomez, now that you mention recording, Jim thinks he can record some of the music that will be happening, and put it on CD. What do people think? If the weather is fine, then I have an ideal place for songwriting. There is a stone circle near the river, with a storyteller's chair and benches. Perhaps a picnic lunch on Saturday before we start singing? Just an idea. Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: bill\sables Date: 14 Sep 00 - 03:49 AM I have just had confirmation that Sam Pirt can indeed come along so if there is a ceilidh Sam is one of the best lead players. Cheers Bill |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Gomez Date: 13 Sep 00 - 07:13 PM Oh!.. the joys and frustrations of mudcat are not for the mild and the meek you can't always trust a posting that arrives with it's tongue in it's cheek when you can't find the words to a melody that's been squirrelling round in your head In the digi-traditional archives Then you'll just have to start your own thread ----------- sung to the tune of "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts"... or something next verse is yours Catrin and By the time we get to Llanstock we'll be half a million verses strong. Then all we'll need is a fairly large orchestra and a recording studio. Bron will organize it.. she's brilliant at organizing stuff gomez |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Catrin Date: 13 Sep 00 - 03:56 PM Gomez - A perfect topic might be 'the joys and frustrations of mudcat'...or something. Then it could go in the songbook. (oooh ambitions!) Catrin Excited like a little kid |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Gomez Date: 13 Sep 00 - 03:48 PM A songwriting workshop? might need to be in a secluded place where the screaming cannot be overheard. A dungeon maybe? Are there dungeons in Llanthingy? perhaps a large shed? I have never been to a songwriting workshop but I have written a few songs and used them as instruments of torture in the local clubs with some considerable effect. I think we should all bring some ideas along. finished songs can be performed in the village hall but to write songs we will need ideas. if those interested all brought a couple of lyrical lines with them and perhaps half a dozen notes of varying length and intensity, we would have all the ingrediments. Then all we would need is one person with a chair and a whip to keep all the passionate emotion under control. I'm rather fond of whips but I wouldn't mind being restrained by anyone else who might be willing! |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Eric the Viking Date: 13 Sep 00 - 02:52 PM I want to know--WHERE HAS MICCA STOCKPILED THE PETROL? This is sounding so good, I need this weekend just to get my head out of the muck for a while. I shall be leaving Cleckheaton around 16.30 ish and going down the M62 and then M6 and then turning off somewhere near Shrewsbury. Don't knopw what time I shall be returning on sunday, but it won't be so late-though if the house-boss will ring up work and tell them I am deadly sick and to stuff it up their arses, then I won't come back at all. Are we looking at lifts and petrol sharing etc? Pick up points etc? Cheers. Eric. |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Terry K Date: 13 Sep 00 - 12:15 PM Guest Michael in Swansea - what have you got in Middlesbrough (my home town) or Whitby in October? Sorry for thread creep everyone but I obviously can't PM to a Guest. Cheers, Terry |

Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: GUEST,Michael in Swansea Date: 13 Sep 00 - 04:23 AM What are the dates for this gathering? A snog writing workshop is something I'm in need of, never having written one. I've a 'orrid feeling it might clash with Middlesbrough or Whitby. M |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Llanfair Date: 13 Sep 00 - 04:13 AM Blimey, you don't want much, do you???"grin" The chippy is open till 10, but would probably stay open later if needed, they do a good variety of food, including burgers and veggie choices. I think Buff has applied for an extension till midnight both nights, but you'll have to carry your own beer to the Institute, 100 yards away. I think I've got some people to run a snackbar all afternoon and evening Saturday for cups of tea, coffee, butties and stuff. Scenery? just look over the houses!!! There is a lovely river walk, and I'll lend you a couple of hyperactive dogs to take with you!! Liz, I have arranged for visits to the playground with some children for Phoebe, if she would like that. There will be music in the pub on Friday night from 8 ish till we get thrown out at midnight. Any more ideas? Bron. |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Catrin Date: 13 Sep 00 - 04:03 AM Ooooooh, I'm all excited now. A writing workshop is something I hadn't thought of but something I would love to be involved in. Anybody up for it? I have been to song writing workshops in the past and have been dissappointed that it consisted of people who, albeit extremely good and talented, were singing their own songs rather than giving some kind of instrucion on technique, which was what I expected. Perhaps, in this case, people who wanted to attend could bring a song they had written and share how it was they came to write it. That would be dead interesting, for me at least. Anybody else interested in this as maybe a short diversions from the singing? Catrin |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 Sep 00 - 06:12 PM And an oxygen tent on standby please.... LTS |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Noreen Date: 12 Sep 00 - 06:11 PM Oh yes, sorry, non-facetious comments required- I'm game for anything (so he shot her). I'd like a good singing session (unaccompanied or mixed) and a bit of dancing would be fun. I'll play piano with any scratch ceili band if required, unless anyone else would rather do so. I'll fit in with whatever's going on, sounds wonderful! Noreen |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 Sep 00 - 06:05 PM I can plait hair, does anyone do hair wraps, I can bring my own threads - there's about 3ft of hair to do..... I can do wraps too, but not on my own head!! Any chance of some eating and sleeping time? Any scenery to look around, something for a hyperactive, pasta eating 4 yr old to do? She loves mangling animals, but is not musically social - when I sing, she puts her hands over her ears or my mouth - I guess I shouldn't sing so loud!! How about a writing workshop? - we can set up thought for the day for a 12month!! Does anyone have a video link? Can we do a live Mudcat Hearandseeme? Am I getting a bit overexcited now??? If anyone wants a quiz, for a bit of a difference, I'm sure Micca would oblige, he has a couple ready..... first prize could be the petrol home!! LTS |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: bill\sables Date: 12 Sep 00 - 05:47 PM I would like to join a musicians session sometime over the weekend. |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Noreen Date: 12 Sep 00 - 05:29 PM Eric, I'll plait your hair if you'll do my ironing! :0) Noreen |
Subject: RE: UK gathering 3 From: Eric the Viking Date: 12 Sep 00 - 04:24 PM I'd like the petrol to get there! (at a lower price of course!) I am quite happy with the weekend of continual singing, laughing and talking.(plus some eating and do they sell orange and soda?) How many are going? I think I'll probably camp if it's not too far from the happening-perhaps we should call it Llanfairstock!(or jusr Llanstock) Hope it isn't as muddy as Woodstock looked! What time does the chippie close? Is there a curry house? Has the pub got an all night extentsion? (for 2 nights?) I expect it will be dark, will there be signs (in English please) that say "Mudcat" this way or just "bugger off"? (By the way Noreen- my ironing board is any flat space near the electric socket-bet you thought my Mrs does it all! Ha- (not that I iron much, but I can-don't expect anything but a dishevelled Eric) Oh by the way Can anyone plat hair?-my wife usually does it for me every morning. Oh well back to the normal computer use-bye. Cheers Eric |

Subject: UK gathering 3 From: Catrin Date: 12 Sep 00 - 06:27 AM OK folks. Now, thinking about what Patrish said and others who've suggested Ceiledhs, performences etc. etc. Can we post what our (realistic) mudcat-gettogether-dreams might be? This way, we might get something for everyone and possibly have two or three 'events' running at a time. For example, what do we expect/wish for on Arrival at Llanstock? What would we like to happen on the Saturday? Should we have more than one 'happening' at a time - to cater for different tastes? As far as I'm concerned, I could quite happily spend the whole weekend singing and listening to others sing. So I suppose my request might be for as many sing-songs as we can fit in. I suppose restrictions might involve - no of venues, space etc., weather, number of people (yes, I know it's difficult to have an intimate sing-song if sixty people turn up). Lets make this weekend meet our dreams. We have five weeks to get sorted. Catrin
