Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: SINSULL Date: 17 Dec 08 - 11:56 AM Mawking is right - I suspect they are disappointed 'cause there are no lords to leap on them. Bunch of sluts. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: John MacKenzie Date: 17 Dec 08 - 11:50 AM 8 maids a merkin? |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: katlaughing Date: 17 Dec 08 - 10:51 AM Maybe they were balking at milking or mawking or whatevering!:-) Micca sounded pretty excited the other night, though he says he doesn't get excited!**bg** ktkat, my Rog, Morgan, Trystan, Kipling, & Merlee who all love Micca |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: MMario Date: 17 Dec 08 - 10:40 AM Lastly - there is a possibility that it should be "eight maids a-mawkin" - or acting cattily. But I don't think so at christmastide, do you? |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: MMario Date: 17 Dec 08 - 10:36 AM BTW - I myself prefer the interpretation that it was 8 maids a malkin; in other words, 8 maids using a malkin (a type of ragmop) to clean up after all those fowl! |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: MMario Date: 17 Dec 08 - 10:27 AM Some people think that "8 maids a milking may be a corruption of "Eight maids a-maukin" which would be hunting hare for the Christmas feast. Given that many dairy cattle would be "dry" at this season of the year, or giving very little milk, needing 8 maids to milk would have required a VERY large dairy herd. Thus the possibility that they were hunting small game (probably with some kind of a hawk) makes sense. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 17 Dec 08 - 10:08 AM On the 8th day of Christmas my TL gave to me... 8 maids a milking - which presumably means they brought the cows with them, seeing as all we have here is birds... I wonder how many of them were blonde? And for heaven's sakes, don't let the cows eat any of that bean stew... the ozone layer is thin enough already! LTS |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: Charmion Date: 17 Dec 08 - 09:31 AM What kind of beans? The French on the label is haricots blancs, and in English they are Navy beans. Also known as Great Northern beans. They're the little round white thingies one bakes with salt pork, mustard and molasses to achieve what Yankees call Boston-style and we of the Canadian persuasion call fêves au lard. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: MMario Date: 17 Dec 08 - 09:29 AM Looks like the bird count is up to 23. |

Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: SINSULL Date: 16 Dec 08 - 03:28 PM Yeah - that will offset the cost of the bird flu vaccines and dry cleaning bills. I really hate birds...in the house, I mean. I am actually partial to seagulls. |

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me - two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree. Freddie killed them too. White feathers from one end of the house to the other... Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: John MacKenzie Date: 16 Dec 08 - 11:41 AM The French recommend haricot, but I have used both pinto, and black eyed beans with equal success. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: jacqui.c Date: 16 Dec 08 - 11:33 AM Micca says that the smoked goose one is serious s%*t so we reckon that should be the one, Charmion, unless you want to be really nice and do both. Micca wants to know what kind of beans you use. MY life is very good! |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: SINSULL Date: 16 Dec 08 - 11:31 AM That sounds wonderful Charmion. Goose not lamb, I think. Comfort food. Yum. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: Charmion Date: 16 Dec 08 - 10:49 AM Mary, about New Year's Eve -- I was thinking of making a cassoulet -- that's a French bean dish with several kinds of meat in it, enough for everyone to have some, in my big bean pot. I can cook it half-way at home, pack it in the back of the car in a nice solid box padded with a towel (refrigeration not a problem, obviously), and finish it at your house in the oven or the microwave, whichever is more convenient. I know two versions of cassoulet: one made with salt pork, sausage (smoked and garlicky), bacon and lamb; and the other made with salt pork, sausage (garlicky, not necessarily smoked) and smoked goose. Which kind would you prefer? We'll tote along some wine to go with it. And I won't forget the bean pot, or indeed require you to mail it after us. (I blush for shame at the memory ...) |

Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: kendall Date: 14 Dec 08 - 03:20 PM The original saying is much too crude for me to repeat. I have too much class. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: SINSULL Date: 13 Dec 08 - 08:44 PM As long as it's not dried camel meat from Afghanistan. Yes - that would be wonderful Charmion. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: Charmion Date: 13 Dec 08 - 02:49 PM My polite old dad used to say "Built like a brick cathedral." When I saw Paddington Cathedral, I finally understood what he meant. Hey, Mary, can Edmund and I bring something delicious and mildly luxurious to help make a fine New Year's Eve? |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: SINSULL Date: 13 Dec 08 - 11:05 AM Kendall - a brick shipyard???? I guess that's the Maine equivalent of a compliment. We will have to explain the Captain and the idiom before she sees that. |

Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 Dec 08 - 08:48 AM I'm a blonde... but am I being taken?? No. I'm stuck here. I can't even plan anything yet, until someone makes up her mind what she's doing. I'm going to sulk. LTS |

Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: SINSULL Date: 11 Dec 08 - 06:40 PM Sorry guys. New Year's will be small and pecunious if at all. If Jacqui will take the blonde I'll keep Micca here. I do still have his shoes. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: jacqui.c Date: 11 Dec 08 - 05:58 PM Deb - I was hoping that we might arrange a small soiree at your place for the visiting Brits, maybe just after New Year. I'll check on the dates they are going back, but I know that the blonde wants lots of music while she's there. |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: Jeri Date: 11 Dec 08 - 05:02 PM I can guess who the blonde is. I'd rather it be a Tim Phillips violin--less fuzz and probably not as high strung--but I have a guess. Looking forward to New Year's Eve. (I haven't been invited, but I know where Mary lives.) |
Subject: RE: Where is Micca????? From: TRUBRIT Date: 11 Dec 08 - 04:42 PM Bummer -- this is our 'off' year for going to Sins for New Years -- my sister is coming from England so we are having a gathering here. Micca, if you are in the area drop by for a hug. |
