Subject: RE: Tune Req: Northwest Passage (Stan Rogers) From: bubblyrat Date: 11 Feb 12 - 08:27 AM We just recently bought the "Songs From Fogarty's Cove " book, and find it very useful ,although we shan't be attempting NWP ! I / we prefer to leave that to the admirable Tom Lewis & his Polish chums ( CD "Poles Apart " ) We bought the book for "Fisherman's Wharf" , our version of which is coming along nicely ; beware , though -- the book itself might be cheap, but the airfreight is not ! I think it cost about 70 dollars all told ! |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Northwest Passage (Stan Rogers) From: GUEST,Tim Keenan Date: 03 Feb 12 - 02:53 PM Dunno if Brian is still looking, but there is a good TT(Bar)BB arrangement by Ron Smail here: http://www.classica.ca/catalogue.php#10 Catalogue #: C 019 EVMSheet Music Stan Rogers/arr. Ron Smail Northwest Passage Male Voices TTBarBB a cappella (TTBar a cappella) One of Stan Rogers' most popular, most enduring melodies, so typical of his style. Ron Smail has done a marvellous arrangement - for two different male choir voicings, all in one octavo! The 'smaller' one one was arranged for the Middle School Male Honour Choir at the Northwest 2008 ACDA Convention in Vancouver, BC. A huge success! Price: $ 2.25 |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Northwest Passage (Stan Rogers) From: Dave the Gnome Date: 28 May 03 - 04:57 AM Up in the North West of England there is a delicacy local to Cumberland in the Lake District - The Cumberland Sausage. Looks like a huge curled up dog turd bust tastes deleicious. I find the ones made in Waberthwaite particularly tasty but enough of my tastes! I was taken with a sudden urge to write a parody, something I have never done before but I could not resist here:-) Could only be done in the right circumstances but feel free if you are so inclined... Westward from the A6 'tis there 'twas said to lie The noble food of Cumberland for which my grandad pined; Seeking golden gravy, leaving fish and chips behind; And a long-forgotten lonely cairn of plastic trays. cho: Ah, for just one time I would eat the Northwest sausage To find the hand of Grandad reaching for the Irish sea; Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage And eat a Northwest sausage for my tea. Many years thereafter, I take passage overland In the footsteps of the old man, where his sea of sauce began Watching chip shops rise before me. They don't half stink again! This tardiest escofier, driving hard across the plain. And through the night, behind the wheel, the mileage clicking west I think upon Hollands Pies, Yorkshire puddings and the rest Which cracked the hunger pains and soaked up beer for me Until I had to stop quick for a pee. How then am I so different from the first men through this way? Like them, I ate some settlers, but then threw them all away. To seek a Northwest sausage is the call of many men They find them but they throw them up again. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Northwest Passage (Stan Rogers) From: Peter T. Date: 27 May 03 - 09:56 AM The version in the book Rise Up Singing is reasonably close (though the last line is wrong, should be a Bm first and a G at the end). The hard part is getting the tune in the verse right. yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Sheet music search-Stan Roger`s Northwest Pas From: Dan Calder Date: 30 Mar 99 - 08:50 PM Brian, If you check the Stan Rogers Page at http://www.summerfolk.org/fcm.html you'll find you can order his book, "Songs From Fogarty's Cove". It's money well spent. I paid $25.00 for mine at the Halifax Folklore Centre back in '93. Fogarty's Cove Music has it listed at $18.00. (God Bless the Internet.) Good luck, Dan |
Subject: RE: Sheet music search-Stan Roger`s Northwest Pas From: Ted from Australia Date: 30 Mar 99 - 08:29 PM Brian, Funny you should mention NW Passage I am working on it (solo) The songbook has the music , Any competent musician in your group should be able to arrange 4 parts. Subject: RE: Sheet music search-Stan Roger`s Northwest Pas From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 30 Mar 99 - 06:52 PM Brian, Stan Rogers had a song book called "Songs From Fogerty's Cove". I think it may have Northwest Passage in it. It had only vocal line and guitar chords as sheet music, no four part lines. The song book can be ordered from Elderly.com. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Sheet music search-Stan Roger`s Northwest Pas From: katlaughing Date: 30 Mar 99 - 11:05 AM Dear Brian, Here are the words (click), don't know about the tune. You might try the "Links", on the main Mudcat page, in the middle of the page, along with other listings. In it, go to the Lester Levy Collection and see if you can find the actual sheet music to it there. These words were in the DigiTrad database. In the upper rthand corner of this page is a "search" box. I just typed in "northwest passage" and several songs came up, including the one you are looking for. Some have audio. This is a great place to "cruise" for new songs; there are literally thousands in the database. Good luck, katlaughing |
