Subject: RE: Tom Russell--Hotwalker-Just beautiful From: Uncle Phil Date: 27 May 07 - 07:02 PM I saw Tom perform a couple of weeks ago in Texas and he did the Woody Guthrie song, with a long spoken intro, as part of the show. Outstanding. As usual he had plenty of CDs with him, and visited and signed CDs in the lobby for as long as anyone wanted one. - Phil |

Subject: RE: Tom Russell--Hotwalker-Just beautiful From: Midchuck Date: 27 May 07 - 06:27 PM It's about time my main man got some attention. GF, you know he's gonna be on tour in the UK, end of July thru mid-August, don't you? Itinerary here. You can probably buy any of his stuff if you make one of his shows - unless they give him trouble about bringing it over. He always has plenty of product at his shows this side. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Tom Russell--Hotwalker-Just beautiful From: Girl Friday Date: 27 May 07 - 06:05 PM I heard "Who's Gonna Build Your Wall? " on thew radio several months ago but can we get it in the UK? No way Jose. To buy it from Amazon cost more in postage than the price of the cd. Can anyone give us the words please? |
Subject: RE: Tom Russell--Hotwalker-Just beautiful From: C. Ham Date: 27 May 07 - 03:58 PM Art, If you don't already know it, you need to check out Tom Russell's "The Man From God Knows Where," his folk opera that preceded the equally-amazing "Hotwalker." I'm about the same age as Tom Russell and I consider him to be the greatest songwriter of MY generation; that is to say the generation that came along 10-15 years after Dylan, Paxton, etc. |
Subject: Tom Russell--Hotwalker-Just beautiful From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 27 May 07 - 03:30 PM Those who know me, know that I am a champion of the historical tale of this American nation--especially as elucidated by the poetry and philosophy of the Beat literary clan. Well, Tom Russell has put together a loving collage of voices -- including his own -- to point out some of the things we've lost as we slouch and blunder our way toward Bethlehem. Van Ronk and Kerouac and Bukowski and Harry Partch and Little Jack Horton are here, as is a wondrous new song of Russell's called, simply, "Woody" Tom Russell has long been one of my favorite hard-hitting, straight ahead, and, still, poetic songwriters. He's not too P.C. to tell it like it is---not by a long shot. This is a great CD. And I was just amazed that it is already remaindered at Daedalus Books and CDs. That's pretty damn sad!!! But it's inexpensive there, to say the least. Just a word to the wise! Art Thieme |
