In March of 1999, I received an advanced copy of Tom Russell"s "The Man From God Knows Where". From the very first listening I was convinced that this was one of the best Folk Albums to come over the pike in quite some time. In June of that same year Tom and his guitar player Andrew Hardin performed in concert here at the Toledo Folk Music Club and he was magnificent. At that time some Mudcatters said it was a fine album and were quite impressed with Tom Russell. Some said it wasn't a "true" Folk Album...To each his own in interpretations.....I listen to this album over and over and my enthusiasm never diminishes....For those who haven't experienced this amazing CD do yourself a great favor and get a copy...You will be amazed.....It was released in 1999 on the Hightone Label...HCD8099...76 plus minutes of absolute enjoyment. There's a used one right now at this link: http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/ts/exchange-glance/Y02Y3711408Y6171714/103-8439841-5023843 I still haven't had time to learn how to make a clicky. Check the Mudcat store and leads on other shops benefitting the Cat. This is what used to be called a "concept album" where the entire work is unified by a common theme, in this case family history (accurate?) of the Russell family and their coming to America...I don't find the entire album equally pleasureable, but it's worth the price IMO for just the finale, "Love Abides" a great duet with Iris DeMent. If her voice doesn't raise your neck-hair you better check your pulse. There are also other duets with other artists here, and more hair-obics for "Wayfaring Stranger" and its pipe arrangements. BTW re: Iris DeMent if you like what you hear on this one check out her solo albums and some duets with John Prine e.g. on "In Spite of Ourselves"...

From the first post here, maybe there are old threads about this - I didn't search.
