Click here to listen to a folksy musical tribute and visual biography of (arguably) the most famous Leaf ever ....

The Ballad of Tim Horton

Can't find the credits for the song, or even the name of the singer though. Does anyone know?

This may help with lots of questions which have not even arisen "YET"
Tim Horton's FAQ
Especially the urban legend about Nicotine and/or MSG being added to make people come back for more.

Yeah ... apparently it was. He acquired that car when he was still with Leafs. We all know how Ballard was a cheap sob. Since he wouldn't give Horton a raise, he did concede to Tim's request for the Pantera.

Krispy Kream - Had one in Arizona. Yuk! Greasy. greasy. Melt in your mouth sugar and grease.

Tims - O.K. but not great. Very, very slick advertising, though.

Dunkin donuts - Much better. At least you feel like you ate something.

FYI

Tim Horton's Liquid Big Mac

A Big Mac has 540 calories, 10 grams of saturated fat and 0.5 grams of trans fat.

What wonderful new Tim Horton's beverage has more calories, more saturated fat and more trans fat than the Big Mac?

The winner is, Tim Hortons 18oz Butter Caramel Iced Capp Supreme!

With 560 calories, 17 grams of saturated fat and 1 gram of trans fat it's a tall, cold glass of why it is we absolutely need calories posted on menu boards.

Half the kids I know work at Timmy's, the other half pass through regularly. Most of the adults I know buy at Timmy's regularly, the few that don't have friends who supply them.

There's a Tim's between our house and the schools where the rest of the family attend and work (my commute only passes the fridge in my kitchen) and so the family attends Tim's more than church. It's as if a double-double and a dutchie is the new sacrament.

The drive-through extends onto the street, which happens to be four lanes of highway 21, trucks sometimes park blocking a lane of the highway, all of which should concern the police except that they're in line too, waiting for coffee and doughnuts. I swear at them as I pass, then return when it's not so busy.

I'm addicted to their raisin-bran muffins, but since they switched from Coke to Pepsi, they've lost a little of my business. Somehow, this makes me feel guilty.

They used to offer me free TimBits for the dogs at the drive-through, as if to get them addicted too, damn pushers(!), but we don't often use the drive-through anymore...parking or walking is better for us and the environment.

Peace, Mooh.

Gnu, hate to break it to you, but Tim's isn't free even for our gallant lads and lasses in Afghanistan. In fact the Kandahar Tim's outlet makes a healthy profit which goes to support morale and welfare. Our Personnel Support Agency has the franchise over there.

I've never understood the passion for double-doubles. That's way too damn milky. What I ask for is a "little bit of cream" (squeezing thumb and forefinger together) and two sugars.

Tim's cookies are damned good.

Now, not all Tim's outlets serve the same coffee ... some serve better coffee than others, and that is a fact I feel, though some others may argue otherwise ... anyway, in case any of you are on a road trip to nowhere and somehow amble off the beaten track and end up in the foggy Port City of New Brunswick, the blue linky is a picture of the best Tim's to be found in Saint John.

Krispy Kreme ROOLS! Haven't seen one of those for years, though.

I had Tim's bits once, but ... (any number of really stupid, not particularly funny comments regarding his wife, the police, medical procedures or a weasel named 'Pascal' omitted for reasons of taste.)

Seriously, I always stop at Tim's, but rarely get anything because the lines are always long. I leave feeling deprived, but I've never been all that attracted to donuts, rolling or otherwise.

Thanks Jack....AS soon as I read that I felt stupid 'cause I think I knew that but the Halfzeimers is getting to me. Besides, if I hadn't asked I couldn't have come back and laughed, and right now I need all the laughs I can get.

Interestingly enough....................We're currently working on getting Tris tied into the services he will need as an adult and we applied to the county "MR/DD Board." (Mentally Retarded/Developmentally Delayed)   I get back a letter today that says after reviewing his school files, psychological testing, and a bunch of other things we had provided, they had failed to find a "qualifying disability."

He's mentally retarded. Its in their name but that doesn't qualify? Okay........Gimmee strength to deal with the system and the fools who operate it................

On the other hand.......Karen and I are HUGE fans of Tim's.   Recently she went to Atlanta where they had NO TIM'S!!!! Her sister does the Starbuck's thing and couldn't understand her "loss." I took a pic with my cell phone of a Tim's cup and sent it to her. She texted back a nasty word. AND.....My Weimaraner is hooked on Tim's as well. She has gotten so used to getting her apple fritter that now when we go to town she LOOKS for Tim's and barks if I go past! No shit! Know what's worse? She's got a coffee monkey on her back too. She steals any coffee she can find and drinks it. She'll take the cup out of the rack in the van and if it spills which it generally does of course, she licks the coffee out of the carpet. Kinda' gross but I kid you not she's hooked. We can't go in anywhere without leaving the coffee in the doorstep of the van.   If I have a cup at home sitting by the computer she runs off with it or just drinks it down on the desk!

Thanks for the input.

The History of Tim Horton's (A fable for your edification and entertainment...)
a.k.a. Why you have to answer a skill testing question in order to win "roll up the rim..."

Well boys and girls, it all started a long, long time ago...In a land not so far away...It began with Johnny Horton, a distant cousin of Tim, and the song, "The Battle of New Orleans..."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4Q47i4zGBs
Wow, wasn't that inspiring? Well, when those Brits ran at the Battle of New Orleans, where do you think they ran? CANADA. That's right kids, they headed for the cool blue north.
Now, those early years was tough. But they did "make do" with a "stiff upper lip" for generations...Now TEA. They could make that, but COFFEE?; FA-GED-ABOUT-IT!
So it wasn't until Johnny phoned up his long lost cousin in Canada, that would be Tim, the hockey player, and asked him to show those Brits that were up there how to make coffee. I suppose it was to make amends for the song that has been insulting Brits for all these years...
So, in the spirit of forgiveness. They shook hands and decided to form a company...TIM HORTON'S. And so it was, with the steadfast British business ingenuity, good coffee, and American knowhow that a truly CANADIAN company was born!
And in the spirit of generosity, everybody agreed that the famous "roll up the rim to win" contest would be a GOOD thing."
But here is where you have to get to know Canada just a little bit. Mounties, Polar Bears(ya sees 'em 'round closin' time, rubbin' their big black noses on the windows), Maple Syrup, HOCKEY, HOCKEY, HOCKEY, Prime Ministers who punch out hecklers themselves...Security? I don't need no stinkin'security - Jean Cretien, Health Insurance, clean air, squirrels, lakes & rivers, mooses, beautiful women, the Spirit of the French, good food, Freedom, somebody STOP me!....And, of course TIM HORTON'S, affectionately known by some as "Tim Horny's...'
So, with all this GOOD STUFF in CANADA, the government said, "look, wouldya mind answering a skill testing question for contests? Just so's we don't give it away, like the Americans? And we said sure.
And you must be wondering, "what IS that skill testing question?" It's, "Do you LOVE this country?" The answer: BOOYEAH!!!

I believe they haave probably donated a fair amount already but after 5 years they are probably running out of patience and free coffee. Aside from a few managers at the individual stores and occasionally at corporate level, I have found the Starbucks folks to be decent people (if a little exhorbitant).

Starbucks coffee has a promotion going that if you purchase and donate a bag(s) of coffee to the troops they will foot the bill of transport to Iraq/Afghanistan.
A large part of me wants to do just that because I support my fellow service men and women (regardless of my personal opinions about the Iraq war).
An equally large part of me refuses to do it because I don't want the troops feeling too comfortable over there.

Michigan has a Canadian governor so my guess is that something similar would apply there too. But if someone were to screw with the size of the Doughnuts in Tim Horton's in Canada there would at least be a commission of inquiry and even a majority government would lose a confidence vote.

It isn't that the sandwich and donut are smaller, Neil. You are larger.

My wife and I discovered Tim Horton's on one of our trips to Canada several years ago and loved it. a couple years ago we heard they were coming to the U.S. and were geeked. We still don't have one in our area but on a trip to Michigan last year we passed one and had to stop. It seems like both the sandwich and doughnut were much smaller than we remembered. Is that the case all over or just in the ones down here?

I'm not kidding about this. A teacher in our elementary school mentioned such contests as an incentive for us to pay attention.

"Shane"'s gonna be rolling in something -- matrimony, perhaps -- if her daddy catches up with him.

Uh....what was the question???

Did you guys know that Shane has on three occasions now failed to win a substantial prize, because he could not answer the skill testing question? Our boy would be rolling in Winnebagos right now if he had only paid just a bit more attention in grade school! It's tragic.

Story in today's newspaper about Tim's in Afghanistan has it that the Gurkhas love their French vanilla cappuccinos and honey-dipped doughnuts the Americans like LOTS of sugar and cream in their coffee, the Dutch like hot chocolate and the Brits thought that Tim Horton's was some kind of religious cult.

Story here Crullers in Kandahar

Past few years the donuts ain't been up to par. They are sent to the various stores from a central location and so not made on the premises. BUT, their coffee rocks.

Yees, Peace. Tim's does a lot for the community. The Kid's Camp is amazing. And, they keep the RCMP alert... one cop at a time... hehehe. Best security system in the world!

Well, if you go into Tim's, for example, and order up a bunch of donuts and coffee, and then tell them that you think that they should just give them to you because you're such a swell guy, the manager will tell you all about it. Or fill up your car and tell the gas station guy you think that it should be free because petroleum comes from the ground and we are all part of the world.

I'd explain it in great and loving detail except that I'm just a shy kid from the Great American Middle West, golly shucks.

Tim Horton's gives LOTS to various charities. And I know from many calls in the early freezing hours that we can count on them to open up and make coffee and food for us all. Thay have never asked us to pay for stuff they deliver when we're on a fire/MVC scene. OK, so it's only three or four times a year, but they come through for us, and more than once I've been thankful for their coffee, rim or not.

The skill testing question is designed to ensure that only Canadians can win. Unless the neighbour to the south asks a Canadian for the answer, no way he's going to win the prize.
Nice coffee though!

BTW.... I was at the Moncton Hospital this AM to visit a buddy and I learned sommat. The Tim's in the main lobby... every dollar of profit goes to the hospital. Kinda made me all teary eyed, ya know, eh? I mean, what better way to give back to the overweight, the overcholesteral, the over sugar, the.... sniff... sorry... I can't see the keys for the tears.

Seriously, tho... it's a good idea and I appreciate the lad that did it. My guess would be that it's worth close to $1M a year.

And, no, she don't repeat the question, she just says, "Pleasemooshpshshshtssshhhow."

Canadian law does not allow private companies to run lotteries. The skill testing question, which is usually simple math, technically, makes it a game of skill and therefor legal in Canada.

Actually I am and I ain't a Canuck! But I got your attention AND this question does relate to that or something......maybe......sorta'............

THe past week or so has been very tough in 3D and with almost no time for the 'Cat except for a few minutes here and there. On the other hand, I have had time to drink a boatload of Tim Horton's coffee which is the source of this question.   Currently Old Timmy is running a contest and you can check to see if you're a winner by rolling up the rim of your take-out coffee cup. For reasons I don't recall but probably relating to the "hurry up and wait" of this past week, I was reading the cup and discovered this sentence at the bottom regarding prize redemption:

Skill testing question required for Canadian residents.

Say what? Why is this? And what kind of skill is the question about? Drinking coffee? Using a drive-thru? Submersing donuts? Using your donut as a sex toy?

Little help here Folks........Thanks

Spaw.......Too Stupid To Figure It Out (lazy as well)
