Subject: RE: BS: Activity Accountability - It's Sept. 09! From: katlaughing Date: 27 Sep 09 - 07:21 PM Congrats, maeve! Sorry I missed this earlier. Ya know, maybe you are so into the rhythms of Nature, that it's okay if you add a little in the winter when all things of good sense hunker down and doze a lot.:-) That's my theory, at least, feel free to use it.:-) I have lost about 3 more pounds over the past three weeks and for the first time in years have managed a full one hour of qi gong, all of it on my feet, no chair! I can't wait to tell my doc when I see her this week for a treatment. I also can't wait to see what her daughters thought of the cardboard dulcimer kit I gave her for them to put together. She's got one who is already writing her own songs and loves music. |

From: VirginiaTam Date: 19 Sep 09 - 03:58 AM that's one cool doc. feeling much better today back wise. will take ti easy though. funny thing about my knees though. i walk with my toes turned out now. the left more than the right. just in the last couple of days, because it is less uncomfortable. Subject: RE: BS: Activity Accountability - It's Sept. 09! From: katlaughing Date: 19 Sep 09 - 12:03 AM Yes, what maeve said. I only did 15 minutes of qi gong this morning, then went shopping, so I got a little bit of walking in. Not enough, but at least some. I missed a doctor's appt. for treatment as she and her family were out sick. The doc herself called me at 730a to save me a trip! (She knew they wouldn't be open to call me until 8a and that I would be on the road by then.) |

I didn't have any choice about my level of activity today. Had to find the files requested, pronto. they are downstairs. It would have been easier if he had asked for all at same time, but the requests came one after another. |

Subject: RE: BS: Activity Accountability - It's Sept. 09! From: katlaughing Date: 17 Sep 09 - 03:42 PM Maybe starting out with a bit less? If I try too much, at first, then it usually causes more pain/damage then any benefits. (In the past year I've had a lot of problem with foot pain.) Also, maybe the oedema is from a medicine? We tried everything the past few months to dump some oedema leftover from pneumonia and various treatments...just this past week, we tracked it to a muscle relaxant which I have stopped and the swelling and pain is almost gone. Good luck, kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Activity Accountability - It's Sept. 09! From: VirginiaTam Date: 17 Sep 09 - 01:14 PM Thanks Kat I did not have time to do walk around building today as I was up and down the stairs, end to end of the building 8 times, chasing files for Archive Service Manager and the auditor. Add 2 more trips for collecting then delivering post (covering for colleague who is on leave). Can't believe how bad my knees and feet hurt. My feet are so swollen. Don't understand. I thought the extra movement would reduce edema. I am shattered. Tomorrow going to add the breathing exercises I found to help my lungs. |

Subject: RE: BS: Activity Accountability - It's Sept. 09! From: katlaughing Date: 16 Sep 09 - 04:39 PM Welcome to the thread, VTam. I posted this in the other thread, but it really belongs in here as I think we'll keep them separate as we've been doing unless anyone else wants to comment? I have realised, finally, that I DO have the time and HAVE to make the time to really get active. I have graduated from doing a qi gong for seniors, modified to do from sitting in a chair, to qi gong for beginners which is the same routine standing, to yesterday, getting back to my qi gong flow DVD which I had been unable to do for about 6-7 years. As I have devoted at least 45 minutes, first thing each morning, to exercise/meditation I find my body craving it by the next morning AND my day following with much more energy.(Of course, it helps to be over the pneumonia and all of the effects from it and medicine bs! Five months lost!) This is a HUGE thing for me, mentally, as for over ten years I had been in the mental AND physical state of "can't do that..not enough energy/oxygen/etc." They don't deal with the mental/emotional changes which can occur with heart surgery and it has been a struggle to not only realise that I DO have the energy and wherewithal, but also to convince my family, esp. my Rog, of this, too. One thing I've found helpful is to have easy-to-do and not-so-easy-to-do goals. I get less frustrated which keeps me going instead of giving up because it's too hard.:-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Activity Accountability - It's Sept. 09! From: VirginiaTam Date: 16 Sep 09 - 03:40 PM Hi. Gonna give this a try because I have been suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis and put on about 40 pounds since Andie. Also last Autumn/winter i had a 3 month long flu/cold/flu/chest infection which have left me weakened heart and lung wise. I get out of breath from brushing my hair, for pity's sake. So I resolve to get up and take a quick stroll from one end of the Essex Record Office (it is a long building) to the other using only stairs at least twice a day not counting when i arrive in the morning or when I leave. When the weather is fine, I resolve to go outdoors and walk along river into town centre during half hour lunch instead of working or googling. I resolve to put reminders to do these things in my outlook diary tomorrow morning. I resolve to send the reminder from my home email to my work email right now. |

Subject: RE: BS: Activity Accountability - It's Sept. 09! From: katlaughing Date: 15 Sep 09 - 01:04 PM I am wondering if this wouldn't work better if we combine this with the decluttering thread? There seem to be most of the same group, plus losing weight is decluttering, right?:-> And, I find myself posting the same stuff to each as the decluttering involves activity which counts with weight watchers. We'll leave this one for the rest of the month, but please do post what you think of that and I'll post the same note on the deluttering thread, too. |

Subject: RE: BS: Activity Accountability - It's Sept. 09! From: katlaughing Date: 07 Sep 09 - 11:15 PM Man, I hear ya, LtS! Be nice to yourself for as much as you are able. I managed 15 minutes of qi gong at an altitude of 9,980 feet above sea level. I had oxygen on and I was huffing until I actually started to do the movements. It was pretty neat to feel everything calm down, the breath flow, and the pulse oximeter was reading in the 90s which is GOOD! We were at a transmitter site which Rog had to go take care of ...an emergency trip. I am glad I was enough better that I could go with him. |
