Subject: RE: Chords Req: Come Fare Away / Marnie (Jean Ritchie) From: GUEST,threelegsoman Date: 14 Dec 16 - 02:41 AM I uploaded my own version of this lovely song a couple of years ago using chords I worked out from a CD: Come Fare Away (Including lyrics and chords) |
Subject: RE: Chords Req: Come Fare Away / Marnie (Jean Ritchie) From: meself Date: 13 Dec 16 - 10:42 PM Yes - I had it on a compilation album of Scottish folkies, sung by Jean Redpath. I believe somewhere on a Mudcat thread, Jean Ritchie ("kentuckytrad") tells a story of hearing a Scottish singer performing Marnie, and afterward correcting a lyric - and his astonishment when he discovered that he was talking to the author of the song. |
Subject: RE: Chords Req: Come Fare Away / Marnie (Jean Ritchie) From: Gallus Moll Date: 13 Dec 16 - 04:37 PM Margie Sinclair was the female Mirk singer-her husband iain sang, played and composed. I've forgotten the name of other(s) in group - need to trawl through me record collection; a guy who played a small pedal organ. I think Jean Redpath would have recorded it too - she was a great fan (and friend I believe) of Jean Ritchie. Jean Redpath taught us Marnie at some of the Heritage of Scotland summer schools at Stirling University . |
Subject: RE: Chords Req: Come Fare Away / Marnie (Jean Ritchie) From: leeneia Date: 13 Dec 16 - 11:13 AM The chord request was made 17 years ago. The DT has two versions of the melody, one in 3/4 time and one in 4/4. Neither one seems quite right. |
Subject: RE: Chords Req: Come Fare Away / Marnie (Jean Ritchie) From: GUEST Date: 13 Dec 16 - 09:20 AM 'Marnie' was on an LP (1970s?) with many fine Scottish singers- can't recall the name but the Thurso group 'MIRK' sang it on that LP |
Subject: RE: Come Fare Away-Marnie From: Susan of DT Date: 03 Aug 99 - 09:00 PM put marnie in the blue search box above and then click on the "click here to play" at the bottom of the song. If your browser is set up right (mine isn't), it will play the tune for you. The tune is the same as the hymn Only Remembered. |
Subject: Come Fare Away-Marnie From: folk1234 Date: 03 Aug 99 - 04:09 PM I lost my Ed Trickett, "The Telling Takes Me Home" tape, which has a great version of this song. The tune is just vaguely bouncing around some spent neurons in my old brain. I plan to introduce this song at our song swap workshop this Sat. This month's topic is Songs of the Sea. Please, anyone, send me the chords. I'll catch the tune once I see the chords. |
