I like ivy. Fulla wildlife.

steve shaw, the ivy possibly contributed to the trees weakness in the first place.

Thursday noon - dark and raining hard - need the lights on.

A day for staying home.

The rain just started again, midnight Thursday morning 18/11/10, here in Dorset - really hammering down.

Our house won't get flooded unless the Polar ice caps melt - though we might get our very own island if it continues at this rate, it must be the tail end of a hurricane, the noise is quite astonishing.

Poor ol'Cornwall and all places to the West if this has come overland.

Pity poor sailors on nights like this.

Anne

Blame being attributed to defective flood defences and farming practices. I can believe quite a lot of that.

Hi folks. Thanks for all the messages and texts etc. Yes I am fine. I had water under my front and back doors this morning but as I have slte floors therev was no damage except for the odd wet rug. The lane at the bottom by the lower farm is still under water tonight and the road up to the main road is still flooded all the way down and running like a river. In Rilla Mill the water is over the arches of the bridge so it must be up something like 15 or 18 feet. Lots of debris about. The 2 maih roads were both closed near here which meant that all the traffic was being diverted through the lanes around me. It gets quite interesting when 2 artics try passing each other whn you can only just get a car down so many of the side roads came to a standstill.
My only casualty seems to be Byron who seemed so traumatised that she couldn't stand this morning. She is happy and eating and bright eyed and very interested in what is going on but just can't stand. She is in the garage tonight and if she's not ok in the morning a trip to the vet will be in order.
Lostwithiel and St Austell were both very badly hit and there are concerns tonight about the safety of the 13th century packhorse bridge in the towm over the river.
will keep you posted

Cats has reported via FB that she has no problems though the end of her road is awash.

We had an inch exactly overnight - we live just outside Bude. The roads were awash this morning but we weren't in the worst-affected area. The trouble is that the ground was already saturated and the fallen leaves blocked many a drain. Our house can't flood (unless we get a 75-foot tsunami one day, coming in from Widemouth Bay). We had a severe gale last week which wreaked havoc in my garden. I'm still shifting fallen trees, one from the top of my new shed, which, miraculously, survived almost unscathed because the guilty tree had a thick, soft coat of ivy on it which cushioned its fall!

I thought someone else might have started a thread before I got home from work, but in light of the news about the floods in Cornwall last night, am hoping that Cornish catters and songwriters are all ok!

Kitty
xx
