Little Hawk, I finally got around to reading your link. I urge others to do the same!!!!
Not everyone who claims to be on the right, or on the left, are NOT what some imagine them to be! We, as a people are being whipped up, over a facade image, of an imaginary 'right' of 'left'. This is being done for ulterior motives, but some of us have seen through it. This whole thing, is being contrived by phonies to bring us to a corporate/governmental totalitarian fascism.

I would encourage all those involved in the 'partisan debates' to exercise love, compassion and understanding to each other, and in putting those first, you may find that the 'empowered' hypocrite's lies, whether an elected person, or a 'news' media personality may lose their grip on you!

Love and Peace!

GfS

Danged, GfinS...

Yeah, to no violence, however...

...if the upper 5% doesn't figure out that it can't hoard 80% of the wealth then I can not guarantee what the next round of Haves v. Have-nots is going to look like... Serious business here... Income inequality will bring the *US* down... It always has... History is littered with these scenarios...

Hey, if you want to call me a commie, that's fine... Socialist??? Fine... Labels don't much matter... I am a student of history and what we have going on here with our current crop of Haves v Have-nots is about as textbook classic as they get...

The Dems ain't making this stuff happen... They are fighting it...

I mean, I'd hate to be Boss Hog in 3 years...

Ya'll can put that down in yer "Bobert Predicts the Future" file but I am here to tell ya' that by 2113 the current batch of Repubs will be "history"...

You can only squeeze Joe Sixpack but so hard and payin' tax $$$ for Repub millionaire donors is about done...

OK, fine, "Guest".    Just how has Obama been an "embarrassment" to the Democratic party?

Don't forget to compare with "Crying Game" Boehner.

Hey Bobert, I see you are doing your 'hill-billy hick routine, again.
As for John Lennon, and as what you think he would be supporting either side..do you think he would also support Americans taking up arms against each other?

As Dylan said, "It'll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls..for the times they are a changin'"

I am opposed to Americans reaching this kind of chaos, nor do I support anyone who does, nor do I support anyone recruiting others to do so!
Nor do I support either party, whose divisive rhetoric, to inflame others to do so.

I did NOT support Sen. McCain, nor did I support Obama...and as so far as, ..."the Repubs "LIE TEAM"...Obama doesn't need a 'team'..he is doing just fine, in that area, all by himself!..So much, that he has been an embarrassment to the Democrat party, don't you think??

John Lennon would most certainly be very much against what the Repubs are doing in this country... They are corrupting it by the day... They give away billions of Joe Sixpack's tax $$$ to their corporate bed-buddies and then claim poverty and take it out on school teachers in Wisconsin who, in reality don't make the $89K a year that the Repubs "LIE TEAM" has put out but make an average of less than half that much at $43K a year...

But them are facts... Lot easier making a yer story go down when you lace it with outright lies...

his is the one thing that separates the left from the right... Wer on the left are telling folks the truth and those on the right are making up whatever they want to knowing that they have the media power to shout down the truth... They really are not concerned with facts... Why should they be when they own 99% of the microphone???

That's very moving and all.... but I want to find a way to grab the best I can find and build on it.

I think I care as much as YOU do, but I find that when I dwell on the most tedious aspects of the system/situation, it distracts me from looking for positive things.

I vote...and I have been involved in politics...and civil rights. And made a difference in both. I have helped teach kids to think... to analyze HOW things work...in hopes some of it will sink in.
And if you study my history of posting here, that has been my major focus in these debates/discussions. Yeah, I have viewpoints, but I really avoid sweeping generalizations.

I see YOU being concerned, but being inordinately involved in describing the bad rather than looking for the good. I'd love to be wrong, but that's the image you project.

Most very sincerely

Bill D

Praise??? Are you telling, or asking me to 'praise' destructive, lies, greed, power grabbing, deceit, the recruiting of groups of people, to imposed their WILLS over people's rights??...UH-Uh..no way....

"and if you want money for people with minds that hate,
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait"

From, this oldie...read it again...see if you can 'get it'

"You say you want a revolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright Alright

You say you got a real solution
Well you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright Alright

You say you'll change the constitution
Well you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well you know
You better free your mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know know it's gonna be alright
Alright Alright"

John Lennon

Most Sincerely,

GfS

Neutral????? Oh, FAR from neutral!
How does one stay neutral, when they can see the corrupt antics of 'tit for tat', and/or, bargaining this concession for that concession, or new law, tax or 'fee' and 'regulation', and watch it tearing their nation apart, while driving into a free-fall debt..and stay neutral? Though BOTH of these 'bought off', out for themselves, parties, I am watch my country lose its freedom and liberty. It just doesn't seem that way to you, because you've been convinced, that one side is more 'justified' than the other! They are BOTH at fault, and the people they were elected to represent, are ALL the victims..because they are not there representing US, but rather representing some 'idea' that they sold us, to get all hyper about!
I'm telling you, its a scam!..and in the end WE ALL lose!
Now, if you want to pick a 'side', go ahead....the con artists are looking for people...just like you!

I am neither "disinterested" nor uninterested, Lansing. I am extremely interested, and I will call a goat a goat regardless of which party the goat belongs to. So will GfS. What pisses most people here off is that he doesn't just attack the the goats on the other side of the political divide from them, he attacks some of the sacred cows on their side of the divide too! That they find unforgivable! They'd rather he just stuck to criticizing George Bush, but kept his hands off Obama, for instance.

It isn't a question of neutrality. It's a question of honest observation of what's actually going on. And this is what's actually going on...

the truth behind the Arab revolt...worldwide oppression

Both the Democratic and the Republican parties are deeply complicit in promoting and maintaining imperialism, war, fraud, and robbery of most of the public on behalf of a tiny, fabulously wealthy elite. You don't get elected president unless you work for that elite. You don't stay president for very long unless you do what they put you there to do. The partisan game is a real game, of course...with some juicy prizes for those who win it at election time...but it's also a charade, because regardless of who wins it, the same grand imperial game goes on and on. The outer style of rhetoric differs, but the game goes on.

To say this is NOT to be neutral. It is to wake up to what the hell is actually happening in the corrupted halls of power in Washington.

Do I have a solution to these problems? Hell, no. I'm not God! I'm just a person who is observing what is occurring around me and commenting on it. If I did have a solution, my life wouldn't be worth a plugged nickel, I assure you.

I printed this on another thread in reference to North Africa, but it also applies here to the character assasination of LH and GfS.

Pay particular attention to the last two lines.

By Tommaso Campanella

(Italian philosopher, 1568–1639. Translation by John Addington Symonds)

THE PEOPLE is a beast of muddy brain
That knows not its own strength, and therefore stands
Loaded with wood and stone; the powerless hands
Of a mere child guide it with bit and rein;
One kick would be enough to break the chain,         5
But the beast fears, and what the child demands
It does; nor its own terror understands,
Confused and stupefied by bugbears vain.
Most wonderful! With its own hand it ties
And gags itself—gives itself death and war         10
For pence doled out by kings from its own store.
Its own are all things between earth and heaven;
But this it knows not; and if one arise
To tell this truth, it kills him unforgiven

LH has bought the "GfS is neutral" line, but apparently does not see that the esteemed "counselor" says "Democraps" 20 times for every use of "Republicunts", and hammers away at "left wing loonies and liberals". Yup, fair and balanced as hell, right LH?

Bullshit.

And despite playing the above-it-all disinterested but bemused persona, LH is one as well.

Yes, Foolestroupe, many do support righteously thuggish behaviour if it comes from the political side which they normally support, and they get pissed off if the other political side plays the same kind of tricks...

...but GfS is not one of those many. Nor am I. We freely criticize both sides if they do that sort of thing. And I'm not a Yank W@nk@r either, I'm a Canadian. ;-) I too look at the USA circus from the outside.

I am disgusted by both mainstream political sides in the USA (meaning both the Democrats and the Republicans who are presently in power and playing the usual games), and so is GfS. I criticize both of them for practicing massive political corruption, and so does GfS.

Being a foreigner, not a Yank W@nk@r, I have no US nutters in my anxiety closet, I merely look at the US Circus from outside... We have our own unrelated Aussie W@nk@rs over here mate - except for the 2nd rate Yanks (and in earlier days Poms!) we import ... :-P

So, no matter WHO you support AT THE MOMENT, from the comments, it seems clear that many accept such righteous thuggish behavior if the ones you support at the moment do it, but get pissed off when the ones you do not support at the moment play the same 'tricks'.

Don't really have time to read every post but figure I'll throw this in...

There are over 3,000,000 old folks living in nursing homes who have exhausted all their resources.... These folks is like your great auntie who you really never quite knew... They have no one else but they are being taken care of by all of *US*...

The facilities who take care of these folks are in your town and they buy their stuff in your town and hire folks who also buy stuff in your town...

I mean, shut down the government and all of a sudden there isn't paycheck for the folks that take care of yer great aunt and now we are not only laying workers off in every nursing home in the nation but we are also going to have to start sending great auntie to you to care for...

This is just one of the hundreds/thousands of examples of where things can get very messed up very fast....

But these rightie anti-tax people don't really care much about reality...

I was scrolling up and was thinking the same thing Little Hawk articulated. So here's mine.

You must think, that I'm ON a side. Frankly, I just want the truth, no matter whose 'side's' toes I'll end up stepping on!! It is YOUR projection of where YOUR head is at, that projects 'ALL others' have an aggressive and therefore potentially hostile 'side'!!
For some time I've know this, as others can see, and have, that you sir, might have a big mind...but you are thinking TOO SMALL!

I'm watching the WHOLE thing going down, and if you watch the 'compromises' and 'paybacks', and 'easements' of various laws and events, in a longer thought train, than just your programmed emotional 'flutter-putter', or "how does it affect 'my' side", mentality, (that suits your 'given' self-image of yourself), then you might stumble on the remote possibility, that what we (as a nation), are in the predicament that we are in now, up to, and including of America's economy, and structure collapsing, not to mention America's collapse DO TO ALL the crap that they conceal...and who I mean by 'THEY' is the corrupt assholes that got into power, by infringing their 'wills' of greed, pride..etc. etc., onto the 'rights' of the very people they were elected to defend! Simple folks, everyday families..Etc. etc. etc., you and me.

The real news of the day, would be coverage of the backroom deal making, and the cover story, complete with 'controversy' to smokescreen what's really going on!!!

Oh yeah, what was that about 'goons'??????

"Suppose the threw a war, or revolution, and nobody came." <
Be nice, I did you a favor.

Answer to same post in other thread copied from other thread ... :-)

"Perhaps if the laid down a good rebuttal, or plead their case, it could sway minds"

"we live in a Democratic Republic...not a dictatorship through loophole trickery"

It's pretty clear that you accept such behavior if YOUR Goons (the ones you support at the moment!) do it, but get pissed off when the other side plays the tricks they learned from your supporters....

Foolestroup: "..BUT when the Democrats won both houses of Congress AND the presidency in 2008, the Republicans used every political trick in the book to try to deny them as much as possible."

BUT THEY SHOWED UP...not took a paid vacation at taxpayers expense. Perhaps if the laid down a good rebuttal, or plead their case, it could sway minds...instead, they are pissing off both sides, except for the die-hard extremist left....oh, let's not forget, by NOT SHOWING up, they are representing NO ONE!

Gosh, did the health care debate cause the opposition to walk off??..even when they knew the cards were stacked against them????

In case you forgot, we live in a Democratic Republic...not a dictatorship through loophole trickery.

And one last parting thought, I am NOT in 100% agreement with the Republicunts on every issue, nor am I against everything from the Democraps, either. I tend to NOT be CONTROLLED by either...because in my humble opinion, too much evidence has come in that they both are corrupt political opportunists!...and DO NOT represent the people, who, are in fact, their employers....NOT the other way around!

Srewing with the debt ceiling would really throw the market a curve.

I don;t know what to make of it but the Priceline stock yesterday plunged $40 dollars in one minute and rose 46 dollars over 20 minutes.   It sounds like they are testing software to tamper with individual stocks.

There is still no explanation for the 500 point drop and instant recovery of last year.

Here is what the Boehner Congress republicans plan to do in words we all can understand.

They will offer a mini extension of goverment operations until the end of March in exchange for a mini budge cut of 2 billion dollars for things like aid to starving orphans and food stamps for the elderly etc. - hoping that Obama will veto it and then blame an extended government shut down on Obama's veto of the tiny 2 billion dollar cut in the budget.

This way republicans hope to avoid any blame for the damage and expense that a shut down would cause.

A regular CR would be favorable in comparison.

Sure is funny, isn't it....how when the Republicans get a governor and a small majority in the Wisconsin senate, they consider that a 'mandate' to run roughshod over unions, offer tax breaks to corporations and generally do whatever they wish.......BUT when the Democrats won both houses of Congress AND the presidency in 2008, the Republicans used every political trick in the book to try to deny them as much as possible.

Reminds me of GW Bush in 2004... "I won...I've got a mandate...I'm gonna cash in my political capital!"

"Like the 14 Senators in Wisconsin??"

To an outsider, it looks like it's the other senators that are throwing the tantrum - "our way or the highway" and refusing (they are the ones demanding immediate 'gratification') to 'negotiate' (to the extent of kidnapping and illegal restraint and transport to get them into the House to get a quorum by any means!) with those who are trying to do what the people who elected them on the basis of their party's policies want ... and your response thus seems a little 'biased' ... :-)

The class war is not between Dems and Pubs. It's between Oligarchy and Democracy.
FDR would have been in Wisconsin yesterday. "I welcome their hatred!" Remember the Wagner Act?

If Boehner shuts it down, the arrows will point to him as they did to Newt. The Greedy Old Party show their true inflexibility in being able to offer solutions. Could be a shoe-in for Obama.

Gold has not been a legitimate investment for some time. The best investment today
is GDP.

Fox is a paper tiger. "Don't pay any attention to the men under the curtain!"

Astroturfing Mad Tea Party has shown its corporate colors.

NPR and PBS have been moving conservative for some time especially since Moyers is gone.

One of the problem with the American people is that they want every public program to be eliminated except the one they depend on. Recall the "keep your government hands off our Medicare!" idiocy from the 2008 campaign. In the media war, it's "whoever shouts loudest wins." Lies rule the day. As Murdoch buys up more and more of U.S. broadcasting, any other voice will be totally drowned out in the din.

So, PeeDee, please tell me why it is that you and others of your ilk wear being repeatedly and totally fuSked over by their employers as a badge of honor and virtue? Something to cherish and celebrate?

Ever occur to y'all that the way to stop being fu$ked over was to unionize?

Come on, people.    The Republicans have not said they want a total government shutdown. There are enough GOP members who remember what happened the last time there was a government shutdown.

This is just yet another purple-prose type opener by one of Mudcat's favorite purveyors of same.

It would behoove people left of center to stop caricaturing--and thus underestimating--the opposition.

It's painfully easy to be a sensible person in the face of all the overheated rhetoric around here.

But carry on.    And have fun.   I know you will.

So the lights are turned out in the Senate and House chambers, in their offices, their aides don't come to work, their computers grind to a halt, the dudes in Afghanistan just sit around, the CIA spooks are idle...I just hope the surgeons and doctors repairing some poor shot-up GI don't quit in the middle of the operation.

Imagine it: the USAF is grounded, so there won't be any response to hijacked airliners. TSA people give up groping and scanning. Suddenly agribusiness and the military suppliers don't get their checks. The Secret Service, the Capitol Police, the National Park Service, the Border Patrol, Customs and Immigration, DEA, FBI, FAA -- all shut down and not working.

Social Security checks, VA checks, military and government retirement chacks, none go out.

How soon, Oh Lord, before you hear the people's cry?

Oh, yeah... The government has done shit and that's the problem... They continue to give away $30B a year to millionaire agri-businessmen who work from high rise offices... They continue to give away $10B a year to BIG OIL... They are currently giving another $100B to defense contractors to make obsolete military hardware that Republican Robet Gates says he doesn't need or want...

BTW, the House Repubs didn't cut one dollar out of the $60,000,000,000 they cut... Not one dollar!!!

But back to the role of government... Most of the money that goes out goes to Social Security and Medicare, two programs that people have paid and continue to pay into... Problem is that for the last 30 years that money gets raided for wars and other subsidies to millionaires...

Those, in my opinion are worthwhile programs... So is Planned Parenthood... Medicaid is, as well... Without them our poverty artes would be in the 30% for seniors and the world would be looking at US as some 3rd World country...

So, if the Repubs want to pull another bonehead boner like they did in '96 then I'd say that it will be to their detriment...

Some folks here hate the government but these same folks will be lookin' for it to help them when they're in need and no one is left to help...

That entirely depends on which specific Democrat or Republican you talk to, Bobert...and about what. There are some very intelligent people on both sides of that divide...though I agree that when it comes to certain issues...such as blind, jingoistic patriotism and support of war...the Republicans have more people onside for something like that, and that does indicate a certain ingrained degree of stupidity. ;-)

But what always keeps me from underestimating the intelligence of the Right is people like Canada's Barbara Amiel, long a spokesperson for the extreme Right in Canada. She's very smart, sharp as a tack, extremely articulate, downright brilliant in fact. And she's very often wrong. ;-) (in my opinion) The thing is, you see, she's defending certain things in society that she sees as being under threat...and in some cases she is defending them rightly...it's just that I don't agree with her as to what the best remedy might be to fix the situation. She is an unapologetic believer in the power of capitalism to fix everything. I'm not. She also tends to side with the powerful, and I do not. It's a matter of instinctively trusting very different paradyms.

But she is NOT stupid. Hell, no.

Here's my question: where was the negotiating process that the Wisconsin unions walked away from that gave rise to the legislation to abolish them? When did this negotiating take place? When was a stalemate declared?

Think carefully. Walker was inaugurated on January 3 of this year.

How can you say somebody has refused to do something when they were never asked to?

The proposal (in the form of a legislative bill) will remove pension, medical and dental plans from the collective bargaining rights of the state workers and leave salary negotiating rights, working conditions (etc) intact. The union representation will not be changed at all.

Right now, Wisconsin public employees have no contract at all because the last governor and state reps punted, leaving the hard decisions to the new governor and the new reps, mostly Republicans.

I can't help but think the Repubs shoulda watched more West Wing. Shut it down, make sure the people who are capable of understanding know WHY it happened'

The West Wing episode "Shutdown", Original Airdate 11-19-03:
A disastrous fiscal crisis looms when the Federal government is shut down after the President (Martin Sheen) engages in a war of wills between the powerful G.O.P. House Speaker (Steven Culp) over an extra two percent in budget reductions that would trim many of Bartlet's key social programs -- and the Democrats are blamed because of opinion polls. As Leo (John Spencer), Josh (Bradley Whitford) and Toby (Richard Schiff) send everyone home, they remain uneasy as the President refuses to compromise -- until he arrives on a bold plan to personally and publicly challenge the Republicans in the halls of the Capitol.

The public employees in Wisconsin contribute an average of 1/2 of 1% to their pension system.

They are being asked to contribute 5.8% in the future. What they have now is not being reduced at all.

Private citizens often have to pay 100% th their private pension and worry about protecting their hard-earned money from tax liability.

The news media coverage is making it look like the pro-union revolt in Poland a few years ago. They have not given the average citizen a single fact to work with.

Seems to me like the inevitable result of a political system that is based upon division...and that has at the same time fallen into massive corruption at the top levels of both political parties, the banks, the business community, and the courts.

The festering divisions in the public that are caused by party politics (and that's why Jefferson warned against forming political parties)...can be managed in a fairly civil fashion as long as a society doesn't become too corrupt. But when the parties and the whole system become deeply corrupt, then it can't be managed in a civil fashion any longer.

And that's what you're seeing.

I wouldn't give a wooden nickel for the value of either the Democratic or the Republican parties...or for anything they say. They're merely tools of their rich backers, and everything they say when campaigning is merely a strategy to get elected and continue being funded by their rich backers.

Is one of them worse than the other? Yeah! The Republicans are worse. ;-D But ask me this: Do I want to choose between Al Capone and Lucky Luciano when I go to the polls?

No. I don't call that a real choice. And that's what you've got right now, a choice between Al Capone and Lucky Luciano.

The Republicans and mr T partiers ate talking about government shut downs even when they are saying that they are not talking about gov shut downs. Their half hatched plan will be like the movie where a man cuts off his own arm. So far the plan is to cut one hand off and then the other. As you can see the plan is flawed.

The house, controlled by republican,s have not passed a continuing resolution for America to keep running. The CR we are currently functioning under is a result of never passing LAST year's budget of 2010. Now they are balking at the 2012 budget and hell bent to show America that they can save money and force a shut down.

Thing is...the last shut down was only a 80% shut down. IF they go for a total shut down just because they want tough language to reach the ears of theri base, this shut down will look entirely different than last time. A total shut down means that no one will watch the boiler and buildings like museums and the treasury building could blow up, it means that none of the animals that require daily feeding and watering will survive, it means that emergency responders on a federal level will all be home watching March madness...

So what are republicans up to???
I'll tell you.

Republicans are playing a hand of poker held by Republican governors who one after another will jam through laws to abolish public worker unions across the country,   while the federal government is supposedly asleep. The machine to pull this off has been prepping for the event for over a year. Glen Beck has demonized unions and leaders sufficiently, FOX news barely covers the Wisconsin demonstrations and when they do they sound like Mubarak telling the children to go home and for their parents to make them behave.

All the new republican and tea congress people are inexperienced and have even more inexperienced staff who have NO IDEA what really needs to be done to keep the country running. They have less idea how to shut it down.

NOW listen up... all those people on FOX who have been selling GOLD are going to make a fortune when the price spikes after the sut down is announced. They will let the price rise for up to a week or more and then seel it all just before they think the price can go no higher and then allow the government to be resuscitated...

But what if they waited too long... No worry, they think their gold could go higher to 2400 bucks and ounce.

Last week the New York Stock Exchange stopped breathing and died.
It was bought by a German corporation. The new name is not announced but new rules are even more secret. They will claim that they are not subject to every American regulation, we are German!

So if a TOTAL shut down happens it will leave out the critical employees that kept the government alive last time but not this time.

Secondly the GOLD RUSH to hold...sell...start government… up buy again when the price drops - and then repeat the process if possible

Fox news will ignore the real hardships,

Unions will get busted in at least 3 States

And Obama will be blamed for sitting by and letting this happen.

The resulting demonstrations will be characterized as chaos by greedy workers who need to sacrifice for the country.

Democrats keep saying that the republicans are going to cut their own hand off if they shut down the government, what could they possibly be up to.

MY Answer is that they will make money hand over fist in the Gold market, abolish many state unions, and throw red meat to the base for Smiting Goliath and shutting down Obama's government.

_______________________________________________________________________
I will digress into less likely events so it is best to focus on the ideas above this line.... You think MSNBC and npr will cover the story correctly but Comcast is an ultra conservative Corp that is as much wall st ans a media company. They could fire Rachael and Ed. Npr is expected to get defunded and who knows...it is pretty easy to sabotage. Their towers are already quirky. National Guards will be called up to attack union demosnstrations. BEck will say, "See they are just like like those socialist muslims in Tunisia. Oh lord Obama is the anti christ etc" Deaths will ensue and right wing gun nuts will come the rescue and and take pot shots at protestors.
It will be a real deadly mess. In an Emergency Obama could disband Congress, which the republicans would calim was the act of a dictator... then worse things happen I don;t want to talk about.
