Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: gnu Date: 06 Mar 12 - 12:57 PM 0ops, forgot to add that part, leeneia. |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 06 Mar 12 - 09:43 AM Yes, gnu, the Mudcat has been locking up for me too. I have to close IE to get rid of the hourglass. Other sites seem to be fine. |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: gnu Date: 05 Mar 12 - 06:21 PM Yo... Max. Mudcat locked up on me at least 30 times today while I was threading. Anyone else? |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: maeve Date: 05 Mar 12 - 05:38 AM At least we notice your efforts, Max! You aren't likely to find a stronger defender of your efforts here than gnu. |

Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Helen Date: 04 Mar 12 - 04:57 AM Aww Max, that takes all the fun out of it! Thanks, Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Max Date: 04 Mar 12 - 01:08 AM Just me. Coding live. I missed an end quote or something. Love the conspiracy theories tho. Giving me ideas for April fools. |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Helen Date: 04 Mar 12 - 12:47 AM Look at the weather thread In gnu's post, Date: 03 Mar 12 - 01:48 PM : "You live in Maine, right? > ;-) "Here..." [Note - I added a couple of spaces after the ">", just in case it is behaving like a piece of html code] The words at the top of that thread are: ;-) Here.." / > ;-) Here." / > [Again - I added a couple of spaces before & after the "/" & the ">", just in case it is behaving like a piece of html code] Maybe it's picking up the text right after the punctuation and putting it at the top of the page. Just an idea to investigate. And I don't know html more than as a passing acquaintance, many years ago, so I don't know enough about what all the bits and bobs in it mean. Helen Subject: RE: What's the weather like where you are? From: gnu - PM Date: 03 Mar 12 - 01:48 PM "This could be the last snow storm of the season but I don't want to take that chance." You live in Maine, right? > ;-) Here... VERY strange. A snowsquall, followed by sleet, turning to rain soon and the temp going up to 8C. On another thread, 999 saw flocks of Canada Geese in southern Quebec. It's MARCH! Strange not to be shovelling. And, I am NOT complaining. |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Janie Date: 03 Mar 12 - 11:51 PM Appears on this thread and the weather thread. Haven't noticed on other threads but haven't looked for it either. quirky or quarky? |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Amos Date: 03 Mar 12 - 10:55 PM I'd guess it appears to be a fragment left over from some template. The string with the mystery text appears in the thread's meta-data. A |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Bill D Date: 03 Mar 12 - 10:32 PM hit "ctrl U" in your browser ...let it load, then scroll down thru the code. That will surely clear things up...... |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: maeve Date: 03 Mar 12 - 10:23 PM As do I, Rapparee. I still see the symbols gnu refers to at the top of this page, though not with any other thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Rapparee Date: 03 Mar 12 - 10:19 PM That's why I use Firefox and the Ad Blocker Program. |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Helen Date: 03 Mar 12 - 09:13 PM Well, my only current comment is: Well-spotted, gnu! Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: gnu Date: 03 Mar 12 - 08:19 PM Now... ads are appearing at the top of threads. As well, Mudcat is freezing for me when they occur and I have to refresh. Max definitely needs to know about this. I tried to copy one and send it to Max but the copy function froze halfway thru... in several attempts. Then, I had to refresh. I dunno squat about this stuff but I know something is wrong. |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: gnu Date: 03 Mar 12 - 08:13 PM Oh... that clears it up... eh.ca >;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: JohnInKansas Date: 03 Mar 12 - 07:50 PM The only "possibly authoritative" sites I find in Google results relating to the phenomenon appear to be concentrated around ".ca" origins (Canada). As past attempts by most of the rest of us at understanding almost anything relating to that region have been completely hopeless, I guess we'll have to leave it up to Max to decide whether an explanation is merited, or whether it's a fluke that just needs to be fixed. Several sites appear to be instructions about using specific programs/applications peculiar to a particular organization (several are schools, but a couple of "municipal" orgs also appear) and the fluke might have appeared here if someone thought that mudcat works the same way as their usual site. None of those give sufficient information to identify whether the "feature" may be peculiar to Java or CMS coding, although both are mentioned on various of the sites. John |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Joe Offer Date: 03 Mar 12 - 07:03 PM Well, I have a very definitive answer for you: "I dunno." So....I asked Max. I'm sure he will come and explain this thing to us. He's good at that. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Helen Date: 03 Mar 12 - 05:43 PM I just sent a PM to Joe. Why talk to a Joe-Clone, if you can talk to the real McCoy? :-D Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Helen Date: 03 Mar 12 - 05:33 PM gnu, If it relates to surveys, it is a template so that the owner of the webpage can put relevant text in the link and/or title of the survey. Html uses slashes as part of the code to identify what needs to be done, e.g. making the text bold or italic, etc But, on the other hand, it's a bit funny that there are emoticons ;-) in the middle of the text. And the other funny thing is that the end of your first post is now appearing at the top of the page: ";-) Here.." / > ;-) Here." / > appears at the top of the page. Huh?" Maybe we need one of the Joe-Clones to check this out? Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: gnu Date: 03 Mar 12 - 03:34 PM But, who is the ne'er-do-well? |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Amos Date: 03 Mar 12 - 03:26 PM If it was supposed to be hearty affrirmation, it should have read "Hear, hear!!". I hate it when ne'er-do-wells get the two confused. A |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: gnu Date: 03 Mar 12 - 03:17 PM Thanks, Helen. I am cooking supper and, at a quick glance, being technologically declined, I still do not get it. |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: Helen Date: 03 Mar 12 - 02:57 PM Hi gnu, I Googled this: ;-) Here." /> appears at the top of the page. and the search returned info about creating surveys on web pages: ;-) Here." /> appears at the top of the page. Although it didn't have the punctuation symbols on the pages I looked at, some of it probably relates to writing html scripts - which I don't know a lot about. Helen |
Subject: RE: BS: ;-) Here..' /> ;-) Here.' /> From: maeve Date: 03 Mar 12 - 02:25 PM I see it at the top of this page, but not the weather thread, gnu. I don't know what it's about. |
