Subject: RE: BS: The betrayal of Chen Guangcheng From: SINSULL Date: 02 May 12 - 01:02 PM My personal belief is that there is kernel of truth in both stories. No doubt his family was in danger. His cousin in a rural town was beaten up yesterday. But I also believe the Chinese offered some concessions to end an embarrassing stand off. Whether they will stick with them once Clinton is gone remains to be seen. |

Subject: RE: BS: The betrayal of Chen Guangcheng From: Desert Dancer Date: 02 May 12 - 12:14 PM This report (and, less clearly, the one you linked), says that he chose to leave the US embassy because of threats that the Chinese government would beat or kill his wife if he did not. I personally do not find your conclusion credible. ~ Becky in Tucson |

Subject: BS: The betrayal of Chen Guangcheng From: Stu Date: 02 May 12 - 12:04 PM It seems the US and China have colluded to fool Chen Guangcheng into leaving the US embassy. On the day that Clinton lands in Beijing to suck up to one of the most brutal regimes in the world, China showed it's disdain for freedom and threatened his family to make him comply with their wishes, and the US were not at the hospital he was taken to (by agreement, not because he's ill) when they promised they would be. The whole sorry tale is here: Chen betrayed This is the new age: trade over freedom, profit over people. We can stop paying lip service to being lovers of liberty and free speech and admit we're all cogs in the new global capitalist machine, as those in charge stitch us all up to make a fast buck. |
