A literary example of this is found in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles when he uses the phrase to describe how Tess feels after she comes across a particularly gruesome omen after meeting with her own rapist:

"She felt the petite mort at this unexpectedly gruesome information, and left the solitary man behind her."

Lovely! And good to know. I have seen "bellend" used a fair bit online lately, mostly in hostile comments under Youtube videos where various people who seem to meet your definition of "cock", "bellend", and "knobhead" go on insulting each other viciously for 20 or 30 posts each over something trivial they've got their knickers in a knot about.

I particularly like "bellend". It has a marvelous sound to it, though I'm not sure what it is supposed to refer to. Anything to do with doorbells?

It's not true! I was extremely near-sighted and had to wear thick-lensed glasses a long time before I even became aware of the possibility of masturbation. I think it was school that did it to me...given that I was under incredible stress there. My eyesight was just fine until a couple of years into primary school...then it started deteriorating rapidly. I think my declining eyesight was a way of trying to escape from seeing the world that was terrorizing me. Well...that is...the people who were terrorizing me.

As for the hairy palms.....hmmm...nope. That turns out to be completely false too.

Where the hell do they get these stupid ideas?

well it certainly causes a lot of folk songs.

But having just spent a week in the Auvergne at a dance festival. I can tell you dancing causes a lot of delusional thunking about it. Especially @ le Grand Bal de l'Europe. Talk about fit young dancers ('scuse shakey handwriting) and heat! And when they dance with you.... I am home for a few days to recover.

I had the experience when I was a teenager of my tooth fillings not lasting, The dentist kept going to the window looking out and stretching during the dental sessions.
When I complained he told me why the filling didn't last, there was a group of theatrical dancers living across the lane and he could see them washing in the mornings.

As delusional thinking only occurs in beings capable of thinking then the obvious answer is 'Yes'

I'd say "YES!" it certainly does...sometimes. I know it has caused me to fall into deep states of delusion on a number of occasions. This doesn't mean it's all bad, though. It has its good points too.

I want to hear what Steve Shaw has to say about it.
