Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Nigel Paterson Date: 31 Jul 18 - 12:01 PM And this from Wikipedia: La petite mort (French pronunciation: ?[la p?tit m??], the little death) is an expression which means "the brief loss or weakening of consciousness" and in modern usage refers specifically to "the sensation of orgasm as likened to death."[1] The first attested use of the expression in English was in 1572 with the meaning of "fainting fit." It later came to mean "nervous spasm" as well. The first attested use with the meaning of "orgasm" was only in 1882.[1] In modern usage, this term has generally been interpreted to describe the post-orgasmic state of unconsciousness that some people have after having some sexual experiences. More widely, it can refer to the spiritual release that comes with orgasm or to a short period of melancholy or transcendence as a result of the expenditure of the "life force." Literary critic Roland Barthes spoke of la petite mort as the chief objective of reading literature, the feeling one should get when experiencing any great literature. The term "la petite mort" does not always apply to sexual experiences. It can also be used when some undesired thing has happened to a person and has affected them so much that "a part of them dies inside." A literary example of this is found in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles when he uses the phrase to describe how Tess feels after she comes across a particularly gruesome omen after meeting with her own rapist: "She felt the petite mort at this unexpectedly gruesome information, and left the solitary man behind her." |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Nigel Paterson Date: 31 Jul 18 - 11:52 AM For what it's worth, in the arcane world of psychotherapy, the male orgasm has been referred to by some as: "The little death". |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Steve Shaw Date: 31 Jul 18 - 08:52 AM Er, I think it may refer to the particular anatomical formation that is to be found at the distal end of the male intromittent organ... aka "bobby's helmet..." |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Little Hawk Date: 31 Jul 18 - 07:59 AM Lovely! And good to know. I have seen "bellend" used a fair bit online lately, mostly in hostile comments under Youtube videos where various people who seem to meet your definition of "cock", "bellend", and "knobhead" go on insulting each other viciously for 20 or 30 posts each over something trivial they've got their knickers in a knot about. I particularly like "bellend". It has a marvelous sound to it, though I'm not sure what it is supposed to refer to. Anything to do with doorbells? |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Steve Shaw Date: 31 Jul 18 - 02:52 AM Also there's "cock" for a bloke who struts around with misplaced and loud overconfidence who actually knows nothing and who is the object of behind-the-hand smirking and derision. Close synonyms are "bellend" and "knobhead." Not exactly "a man's man" if you take my meaning... |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Little Hawk Date: 30 Jul 18 - 10:58 PM Greetings to you too. Wankers and tossers! What would the English do without them when they wished to disparage someone? Oh, well, there's still "prat", I suppose. And "pillock", "wassock", and "old git". :D |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: rich-joy Date: 30 Jul 18 - 08:01 PM Ha Ha! - Steve, your post at 29 July 2:59pm reminds me of the cajoling lads in my teenage years saying "every one you miss out on, is one you never catch up on, y'know!". Sadly, once the unexpected complications of Menopause hit, I realised how right they were! All those wasted opportunities ..... sigh ..... LOL :)) Nice to be reading you again, Little Hawk - I've missed your posts! Cheers from Down Under. |

From: Steve Shaw Date: 30 Jul 18 - 06:05 PM Very old football joke updated: Little boy asks his teacher, hey Miss, does that Gary Lineker spend a lot of time on ships? Sez Miss, that's a funny question, why do you ask? Coz, Miss, every time Gary Lineker comes on, my dad shouts at the telly, Gary Lineker, you anchor! |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Little Hawk Date: 29 Jul 18 - 09:51 PM It's not true! I was extremely near-sighted and had to wear thick-lensed glasses a long time before I even became aware of the possibility of masturbation. I think it was school that did it to me...given that I was under incredible stress there. My eyesight was just fine until a couple of years into primary school...then it started deteriorating rapidly. I think my declining eyesight was a way of trying to escape from seeing the world that was terrorizing me. Well...that is...the people who were terrorizing me. As for the hairy palms.....hmmm...nope. That turns out to be completely false too. Where the hell do they get these stupid ideas? |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Little Hawk Date: 29 Jul 18 - 03:21 PM HA! HA! HA! Good one. I can't blame the church for my not getting enough sex, Steve. I was brought up as an atheist. Nope, it was my own complete mishandling of situations that screwed everything up. I myself am entirely to blame. |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Steve Shaw Date: 29 Jul 18 - 02:59 PM The only stupid decisions I ever made about sex were as a result of my adhering too much to the teachings of the Catholic Church. In other words, I didn't get enough of it. |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Mooh Date: 29 Jul 18 - 02:18 PM Yes. As a young man I made some pretty stupid decisions based on sex, and yes I would say I was delusional. As a prostate cancer survivor, sex doesn't cause delusions anymore, nor do delusions cause sex. |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Mr Red Date: 28 Jul 18 - 11:49 AM well it certainly causes a lot of folk songs. But having just spent a week in the Auvergne at a dance festival. I can tell you dancing causes a lot of delusional thunking about it. Especially @ le Grand Bal de l'Europe. Talk about fit young dancers ('scuse shakey handwriting) and heat! And when they dance with you.... I am home for a few days to recover. And then Sidmouth.................. |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Kenny B (inactive) Date: 27 Jul 18 - 03:21 PM Little Hawk In a posh accent sacks is pronounce sex. I had the experience when I was a teenager of my tooth fillings not lasting, The dentist kept going to the window looking out and stretching during the dental sessions. When I complained he told me why the filling didn't last, there was a group of theatrical dancers living across the lane and he could see them washing in the mornings. I can now claim from personal experience that watching half naked dancers makes one's fillings fall out. |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Steve Shaw Date: 25 Jul 18 - 06:29 PM In summers like this in Bude I walk around in a state of permanent two-pronged delusion. First, I think I'm Adonis, even at my age. You should see my tan, and I consider even my white bits to be not half bad. Second, I'm convinced that all these beautiful young women with slender bare tanned legs right up to their gorgeous callipygian buttocks (and said buttocks are not infrequently hanging deliciously half-out below their woefully and wonderfully inadequate shorts) are all doing it just for me and that they can't wait for my tender experienced hands to caress those lovely soft yielding curves. There, Little Hawk. Happy now? :-) As Ada said to Cissy, the trouble with you is that you've got sex on the brain. Replied Cissy, yeah, I'm thinking of having it lowered.... |

Subject: RE: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? Subject: BS: Does sex cause delusional thinking? From: Little Hawk Date: 25 Jul 18 - 03:34 PM This should provide much opportunity for discussion. I'd say "YES!" it certainly does...sometimes. I know it has caused me to fall into deep states of delusion on a number of occasions. This doesn't mean it's all bad, though. It has its good points too. I want to hear what Steve Shaw has to say about it. |
