Subject: RE: US Health Cost Info Needed From: gillymor Date: 22 Jan 19 - 07:06 AM Last year, my first year of SS eligibilty, I had Blue Cross supplemental ($160 per month) and SilverScript for drugs ($29 per month). It worked out fine with minimal out of pocket. This year I'm trying a Humana Advantage plan with a zero dollar premium and it includes a drug plan and Silver Sneakers which pays for my monthly gym fee ($50) and it seems to cover most of what the Blue Cross plan did. I was pretty healthy last year so I'm switching up to try and save a few bucks. Of course, you might want to talk to a broker who carries various coverages and will steer you towards a policy that will work for you and your situation. |

Subject: RE: US Health Cost Info Needed From: wysiwyg Date: 21 Jan 19 - 10:02 PM Can you folks pls tell me if supplemental is probably going to keep my costs level or if I should expect a big increase in out of pocket/patient responsibility? The plan I'm on includesd Rx,and those co-pays appear to be similar to pre-Medicare costs. Does that mean my patient responsibility portion for office visits and labs will be similar too? ~S~ |

Subject: RE: US Health Cost Info Needed From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Jan 19 - 08:21 PM We got the AARP supplemental plan for my mother-in-law, and we were very happy with it over a number of years. I have the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Federal Employee Plan through my government retirement. It's supposed to be superior, but I dunno. No doubt it's good, but it ain't cheap (contrary to Urban Legend, government employees and retirees, including elected officials, DO pay quite a bit for insurance). The AARP plan seemed to be cheaper and just as good. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: US Health Cost Info Needed From: Rapparee Date: 21 Jan 19 - 08:07 PM We have AARP (United Health Care) for the Medicare supplement and Express Scripts for the Part D (prescriptions). AARP's drug supplement is pretty good too, or so my friends tell me. You do have to join AARP, though. |

Subject: RE: US Health Cost Info Needed From: Stilly River Sage Date: 21 Jan 19 - 12:24 PM You'll probably need to wait until the shutdown is over to be able to get the full story; many of the reliable links could have been hijacked since the government accounts aren't up to date and certificates have expired. I have some of those same questions (IRS in particular) but who knows where you'll land these days. Seriously. We're all being held hostage. Not to hijack your thread. Good luck with the search. |
