Subject: RE: BS: Radiator noise From: Jon Freeman Date: 30 Jan 19 - 02:23 PM Well the noise hasn’t come back at all today so it looks its fixed. We’ll blame the rat man. |

Subject: RE: BS: Radiator noise From: Jack Campin Date: 30 Jan 19 - 11:37 AM Read Stanislaw Lem's story "Terminus", from "Tales of Pirx the Pilot". You will never listen to plumbing noises the same way again. (It could make an amazing song, with raps on the guitar woven into the story). |

Subject: RE: BS: Radiator noise From: Jon Freeman Date: 29 Jan 19 - 05:25 PM LOL Steve. When I was first asked to investigate this one, the first culprit appeared to be Pip's/mum's computer and what she was listening to on youtube was questioned. But her PC box and the radiator, both in the study are very close. |

Subject: RE: BS: Radiator noise From: Jon Freeman Date: 29 Jan 19 - 04:43 PM I guess I could leave things run but I'll go along with the plumber on this. He spotted a pipe was out of line with its clips (paint marks) and the theory is that it may have been dislodged by someone who was in the roof recently. The idea is that the "compressor" was amplified sound as the pipe was hitting a skirting board. Time will tell but maybe a quick cheap fix on this one with him just pushing the pipe back up. |

Subject: RE: BS: Radiator noise From: Joe Offer Date: 29 Jan 19 - 04:28 PM Now you have me curious, Jon. What was the solution? I'm guessing it would to connect to a short pipe that is blocked off at the end, which would serve as a shock absorber for the hammering. |

Subject: RE: BS: Radiator noise From: Iains Date: 29 Jan 19 - 04:27 PM A lot of noise in the system is typically air, but a radiator on a partition wall may play irritating games with resonance. Try a muffler by draping the culprit with towels or a small duvet, especially making a partial barrier between the radiator and wall. Should it be the cause the cure could be messy and require some replastering. |

Subject: RE: BS: Radiator noise From: Senoufou Date: 29 Jan 19 - 04:07 PM Could it be air in the rad Jon? If so, it's easily rectified by 'bleeding' the rad from the valve. Need to put a towel round it while the valve is released a little, to catch any drips. |

Subject: BS: Radiator noise From: Jon Freeman Date: 29 Jan 19 - 03:53 PM I believe someone is coming out to look at this but, given MC ways of speculating and knowledge too.. I'm curious to see if anyone has any theories as to what it is. The closest I can describe the noise is like an air compressor running. It turns off when the power is shut down but then may start again randomly. It focuses on one radiator. in the study. Actually, in between starting this and now, the plumber has visited and come up with a plausible suggestion. And it may be fixed. Any ideas? |
