The piece, unfortunately, omits another sister, Anne Rynne, also a fine singer and a great person. Condolences to the family.

"Tributes pour in after death of Eilish Byrne, sister of renowned Irish folk singer Christy Moore" (by Aisling Bolton-Dowling)

Eilish Byrne, sister of Christy Moore and Luka Bloom, will be laid to rest on Thursday

The sister of renowned Irish folk singer, songwriter and guitarist Christy Moore has passed away.

Eilish Byrne (née Moore) died peacefully on Friday, April 24, surrounded by her family at St. James’s Hospital in Dublin.

Originally from Newbridge in Co Kildare, Eilish had been living in South Square in Inchicore, Dublin. Eilish was regarded as an influential figure in Irish folk culture and will be remembered for her work both onstage and behind the scenes.

She ran a number of folk clubs in Dublin in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and organised the first Dublin Folk Festival in the late 1970s.

She performed as both a solo singer and with groups such as The Fallen Angels. A talented singer in her own right, Eilish comes from a family of accomplished musicians.

Her brother, Christy Moore, is one of Ireland’s most influential folk singers and songwriters. He rose to fame as a founding member of Planxty, and later, Moving Hearts, before embarking on a successful solo career. His songs are famous for blending traditional Irish music with themes of working-class life and social injustice.

Meanwhile, her brother, Barry Moore, is also a renowned Irish folk singer-songwriter who performs under the stage name, Luka Bloom.

In a statement of social media, Luka Bloom remembered his sister as a “remarkable force”.“Last Friday, our dear sister Eilis said farewell to us and slipped away into the arms of her parents and the angels,” he said. "She lived a full, rich life and was rightly loved far and wide. We will miss her dearly.”

Luka’s upcoming concert at the Irish Cultural Centre in London that was scheduled for Thursday, April 30, has now been postponed until Friday, May 29.

"This week I need to be with my family, to bid our sister adieu,” added Luka.

"We will stand with her husband Peter, her son Conor, her daughter Róisín, and welcome friends who wish to sing, play or just have a wee tear for the remarkable force that was and always will be Eilis.” Tributes have poured in from far and wide for the talented folk singer.

"Although we did not know Eilish personally, we have such fond memories of her singing in The Meeting Place on Dorset Street in the early 1980s,” wrote one mourner on RIP.ie.

"We were a group of Cavan girls just starting to work in Dublin and passionate about traditional music so living across the road from The Meeting Place, we thought we had won the lottery. The music was wonderful and the singers and musicians all went on to be household names in Ireland and further afield. Eilish was absolutely fabulous and brought such warmth to those traditional song and music events."    Another mourner paid tribute to Eilish’s "infectious laugh”. "One of the first gigs I ever played was at Eilish's club in The Meeting Place in the mid 1970s,” they said. “I still recall her enthusiasm and that infectious laugh.”

Eilish’s remains will repose at the Massey Bros. Funeral Home at 113 Emmet Road on Wednesday, April 29 from 5pm to 7pm.

Her funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 30 at 4pm in the Victorian Chapel, Mount Jerome Crematorium followed by cremation.
"Beloved wife of Peter and much-loved mother of Conor and Róisín, cherished nana to Rúben and Laoise,” read her death notice on RIP.ie.

"Sadly, missed and always remembered by her loving husband and family, her brothers Christy, Andy and Barry, sisters Anne and Terry, daughter-in-law Lynn, son-in-law Ciarán, brother-in-law Davoc, sisters-in-law Val and Sandra, nephews, nieces, relatives and a wide circle of friends.”

Eilish Moore (as she was when I met her) was not as famous as her brothers Christy and Barry (Luka Bloom) but she was a fine singer and was also influential behind stage, having been the organiser of several folk clubs. https://www.independent.ie/regionals/dublin/dublin-news/tributes-pour-in-after-death-of-eilish-byrne-sister-of-renowned-irish-folk-singer-christy-moore
