OooHoo, lotta stuff here, in just a short thread. My mum was a serious packrat too, kat; she even went to auctions and bought stuff like used zippers------50 for a dollar. Took us days just to sort through the sewing stuff. Thank heavens she moved to Wyo first, then Dad with stuff. He didn't save ANY thing.........even some stuff we wish he had. And, Chuck,
That is such a thing to share; I hope I can be that "good" when I know I am going. Two years now, and I am still working through my mother's bitterness.......she was SO angry at the end.

Chuck;
Thank you so much for sharing that with us! Imagine how much she must love and trust you to bare her soul like that. Despite the shadow of death, she laughs and sings. Beautiful, and I hope I have the strength to be that courageous as well. You must be a wonderful friend,
~Elle

my friend and big fan of ours sat in the audience watching our performance.she had all our tapes,cd's,photos...u name it!!she knew all our songs by heart.she never missed a note ,singin along wth us!reminded me of a teenager watching their rock idol on stage!!!then we finished, she came over..hugged my neck...she had been sick for sometime....told me how much our music meant to her,the happiness, the inspiration she treasured from our gospel songs.....i thanked her, hugged her neck, too!then she whispered in my ear.."chuck,i'm dying!..."god!!why did she tell me that!why mess up my good time!!...then ,after gathering my thoughts, wipeing my eyes,i bowed my head...said prayer and ask god,"please make me be this happy when i know my time is not going to be long here anymore!!!"

Unified Dawgs for Freedom? Is THAT what all the tunneling in the yard is about? I find myself picking a safe path out to the garden, humming the theme music from "The Great Escape"....hey...Goose kinda looks like Bronson...nahhhhh.

Amergin, lounging sounds DELIGHTFUL! And four of the little beasts...great in the winter. But the Destroyer is 'my' only dog. I end up bringing tons of transients home from work (right now I have 2 quail recouperating in the living room-Lyle & Julia) and I don't want him to get the feeling he's been replaced in any way. And being the only free time we seem to have is the butt crack of dawn, there we go...But one of these days, he'll get his girl for the whole day...dog heaven.

Jen! I am sorry, sweetie, I forgot to say how much I loved your posting, the imagery and I can really relate to the torture the dawg bit! LMAO!! Merlee wants to know if Angus would like to join his Unified Dawgs for Freedom. He's got that well-known Union Organiser, Big Mick, drawing up the bylaws and all and he is forcing me to type this in...for you to tell Angus, one of the provisions is that those they own, i.e., you and me, will refrain from any such torture, lest they strike! "Down, boy, down, I say!"

(H5>Psst! Jen, I cannt say this out loud, but I've got a lead on how we can make them pay and forget they ever heard of the Troublemaker Mick! Careful, don't let Angus see you reading this part!

What's that, Merlee? Oh sure, uh, Jen, Merlee says tell Angus they could meet up the weekend of June 10th if ya'll come this way....he'll even share the backyard with him, after all that's what UDF is all about!

Oh, Peter! Another classic! Tsk!

BtheB, thank you darlin', that is so sweet of you. Fortunately it wasn't quite that bad with my mom. The last time she moved, I went through everything and tossed out tons of stuff. She even had bank statements from the 60's, in 1995! I guess part of it was her generation. Having grown up during the Depression, in a large family, she just always thought that something would have some use, someday....kind of as it sounds the song says. You are Sich a Sweet Sam:-)

Amergin, four??!!! Four of 'em! Whoo-boy! That would be a bedfull! Sounds like fun, but I think ya still hafta git outta bed, sometime, right?**BG**

JuneB(ug?), that's a wonderful idea. Why don't you start it and the rest of us will follow? BTW, you can join us for free, become a member and you can send and receive personal messages with *udder Mudders*, plus have a personal page where you can trace those threads you do't want to lose track of, and many other things, all for free!

Now, I heard another inspirational thing this morning on NPR. I didn't hear all of it, but it was on a master of ballet, an Englishman by the name of Franklin. Apparently his memory is beyond photographic and incorporates everything, the music, the steps, the people, etc. that he has known over the years. Besides adding historical notes to archives of old music scores and dance memorabilia, he is going to dance in several productions, soon, at the ripe old age of 85!! It was delightful and you can hear it, after today when they put up thier archives, at http://www.npr.org...just look for the Weekend Edition program for Sunday and it should be there. Here's a blue clickie for the main page.

Thanks, ya'll,

luvyakat

As I have said here before, I always start my day with Coue's famous self-esteem exercise. I go to my mirror, look myself in the eye, and say:

"Every Day, In Every Way, I am Beginning to Repeat Myself."

yours, Peter T.

Kat,

Thought I could find me old mate Dave Jordan's words to describe your mum - alas - I couldn't, either on the net or in the paper files. It was a great song describing his mum, written ca 1965. So, alas, katsweetart, all I can give for this thread, is the chorus....

Never get rid of anything,
Never throw nothing away
If you just hold on long enough to anything
It may come in handy some day

The guts of the story was, that having filled all the rooms with newspapers and clippings (etc) All that was needed at the end was a "Handiman" to get into the house - it's a worry katart

LOL - Sam

Kat, that's a beautiful quote.

Jen, that was quite lovely. Personally I don't even like to think about getting up in the morning at all. Would rather lay in bed with a good book and my rotten dogs (four of the little buggers) and read/sleep until noon. That way I can be sure its no longer morning, and that things will be alright...

A guy can dream can't he?

It might be interesting to start a thread about what rituals mudcats use to greet the day. I like to sing, especially in the shower! Thanks for the thought.

The sparrows here start their chirruping just before sunrise. This in turn wakes the Black Destroyer from his slumber. He pads over, puts his chin on my bed, and sighs deeply, repeatedly, until I give in and open my eyes. Then with a four-pawed leap that has slowed considerably with age, he hops up for a g'morning belly scratch.
I put on the kettle, and in the silent house, do some yoga reparations to whatever muscles got the snot beat out of them the day before. Angus stretches out, and with the sighing canine equivalent of 'BORING!', watches the entire proceedings.
Regardless of the weather, we take morning tea on the porch and watch whatever wildlife allows us to see them. This is followed by my maniacal impulse to torment the hound. "Boy...it sure looks like a nice day to go for a WALK. Wonder if there is anyone who'd want to go for a WALK? Maybe the neighbor's dog wants to go for a WALK??" I'm sure I'll pay for it some day when I'm stuck in a nursing home....;)
But no sunrise is ever the same. I think that's what ol' Pablo had in mind. Taking the time to really see the beauty you are given every day. Some find it in the ocean, some find it in the clouds, some find it in Bach. What's important is that you do find it. Thanks kat.
Luv, Elle

My mother kept every scrap of paper of anything which grabbed her attention. She would save things up and then send them out to her children or friends. After she died, I brought home large brown envelopes marked by her with my name. They were full of things she'd saved from her trips back to visit me in New England or clippings she wanted to share. I've just gone through another of those and found the following. I can tell it was clipped, very neatly, from a "Reader's Digest: Personal Glmpses" page:

Each day I am reborn. Each day I must begin again, cellist Pablo Casals said at 93. For the past 80 years I have started each day in the same manner. It is not a mechanical routine but something essential to my daily life. I go to the piano, and I play two preludes and fugues of Bach. It is a sort of benediction on the house. But it is also a rediscovery of the world of which I have the joy of being a part. It fills me with awareness of the wonder of life, with a feeling of the incredible marvel of being a human being. The music is never the same for me, never. Each day it is something new, fantastic and unbelievable. That is Bach -- like nature, a miracle!

- Pablo Casals, as told to Albert E. Kahn, Joys and Sorrows
