Subject: RE: BS: Alison in Ireland & US From: Brendy Date: 19 Jul 00 - 03:19 AM I fully expect to, alison. I'm looking forward to meeting you. As you know, we'll be having the christening; I have some visits to Folk Clubs and sessions planned (well, on the cards, anyway), and I've decided that I'll stick around for a few months. I've a bit of studio work to get done, and a few Trad gigs lined up (just to keep the old wallet from drying out, you know) One of my childhood mates (we started playing music at the same time), and a few others from the 'old days' are putting a few things together. Adrian, has been All-Ireland Harp Champion, and Bodhrán champion, 7 or 8 times. Both he and his father make them. Oh, it'll be good to be home again, this time under different circumstances. B. |

Subject: RE: BS: Alison in Ireland & US From: Big Mick Date: 10 Jul 00 - 12:05 AM Hi Bob, I say that fully cognizant that the aboriginal peoples in the States feel the same way. I am also a little redfaced in that I didn't recognize Garry's comments as just stirring. I didna realize that he is THE FAIR ONE'S new musical partner, and he was having a little tongue in cheek fun with her. Garry, if you are out there, please accept my apologies. Now, back to Brother Bolton. I hope that I haven't offended you, sir, cause you are a wonderful 'Catter. All the best, Big Mick |

Subject: RE: BS: Alison in Ireland & US From: Bob Bolton Date: 09 Jul 00 - 11:55 PM Warning: THREAD CREEP! G'day Big Mick, " ... Cause I will bet that they wish all of you would go back to where you came from... " I reckon they thought that even before our (English, Irish and Dutch, in my case) ancestors moved their bags in. Captain Cook's journal, 1770, speaking of when he tried a bit of the old "trading a few glass beads for something valuable" trick, he reckons that "They did not want for anything that we had and only wanted us to go away." Terra Nullius my foot! Regard(les)s, Bob Bolton |

Subject: RE: BS: Alison in Ireland & US From: Herge Date: 09 Jul 00 - 03:39 PM Hi Alison If your going up (or down!) the coast road on a Sat call into The Meeting House in Cairncastle http://www.geocities.com/snogtherock/matties.html for a session at around 4 (ish). Or if that dosn't suit give me a shout and I'll get a few musicians together in Billy Andy's Pub in Ralloo (Belfast side of Larne) Its a quiet session but great for swapping tunes or trying out the more unknown ones. It runs fairly irregulary so you would really have to check with me before turning up Cheers Pete |

Subject: RE: BS: Alison in Ireland & US From: Big Mick Date: 09 Jul 00 - 02:04 PM Ya know, Garry, having a go at THE FAIR ONE in these precincts is not a high percentage proposition. Forgetting for the moment that I shamelessly pander to this woman, she has done more to preserve and promote the Mudcat and folk music on accident and in her spare time, than you have managed in your whole life. And unless you are part of the aboriginal peoples of Australia (in which case I will withdraw this with apologies), I would suggest you lay off the parochial little comments. Cause I will bet that they wish all of you would go back to where you came from. And finally, if you can demonstrate competance on half the instruments that THE FAIR ONE plays, then you would be a blessing to the culture of any country. And by the way, she is trained in the classical style, plays in bush bands, and does many styles. Had enough? Or shall I go on? Making these types of comments on the 'Cat only serve flamers, not the good folks that we value here. Big Mick |

Subject: RE: BS: Alison in Ireland & US From: catspaw49 Date: 07 Jul 00 - 09:51 AM Hi al........I think when they wake up you may be hearing from a number of west coasters. Anaheim is the Los Angeles area and Sean M. is always complaining that no one is there wit him. However, even though its a large state, you'll not be far from the Frisco bunch of the Swans, Seed, Winters Wages, and that whole big crew. Joe Offer is in Sacremento, and Amos is just a bit south of LA in San Diego, so I'm willing to bet that you'll be able to have a get together while you're there! What a trip!!! Spaw |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Alison in Ireland & US From: GUEST Date: 07 Jul 00 - 09:47 AM I don't live there, but to answer your question: Anaheim is about 28 miles (or 45km) from the City of the (Fallen) Angels proper...but jeez, when you look at a map - fifty miles of urban sprawl in any direction from the heart of downtown L.A. could be considered "Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area." Enjoy... |
