LAOIDH CHALUIM CHILLE / ST. COLUMBA'S HYMN

"The melody of Laoidh Chaluim Chille is a very ancient Gaelic air which local legend attributes to Saint Columba (Chaluim Chille), a 6th century Irish priest credited with bringing Christianity to Scotland.
Columba was a Gaelic prince of royal blood and from accounts of his life emerges as a combination of meek saint and Celtic warrior. He founded a monastic community on the remote Scottish island of Iona, a site considered sacred long before the dawn of Christianity, and it was upon arriving safely on the shores of Iona after hazardous journey by boat that he supposedly sang "Laoidh Chaluim Chille". Legends around about Columba's miraculous powers, especially over animals, and his life continues to fascinate scholars to this day."

The hymn Spaw linked to has a traditional tune called St. Columba, words by someone else. Cyberhymnal does have a hymn by St. Columba O God, Thou art the Father Is this the English version of the hymn people have mentioned?

I assume since you found something in the other thread, you are no longer lookig. You can check THIS ONE in the Cyber Hymnal also, although not in Gaelic. It is related to what you're looking for.

Laoidh Chalum Chille is in a book of hymns called Seinnidh Dhan Tighearna.

I can't find my copy right now. I think I loaned it to someone, but can't remember who has it.

The book is in print,so it may be available in a library, or through the Gaelic Books Council. It's a Scottish Gaelic song.

Oops, I didn't realize there were duplicates and posted this to another thread.....all I found was the Gaelic title--Laoidh Chalium Chille--. I got into a site for Mae, but there were no lyrics there.....

Tried this earlier but it got lost I guess? Traditional Scottish recorded by Mae McKenna. Not good enough to transcribe off the recording with William Jackson. Thanks.
