Subject: RE: BS: plane crash on New York From: SharonA Date: 12 Nov 01 - 02:55 PM Rush Limbaugh, on his radio program, is trying (apparently in vain) to dissuade people of the notion that Osama bin Laden crashed this plane in Rockaway in reaction to a statement made by a New York City fireman at a recent benefit concert. The statement was to the effect that this man announced that he lived in Rockaway (which had lost so many civilians and support personnel) and that bin Laden could come and kiss his Irish *ss. Limbaugh, to his credit (however much or little credit anyone cares to give him), is debunking this idea by pointing out that flight plans for departure from JFK Airport vary with the weather conditions, and that bin Laden couldn't possibly know which way the winds would be blowing today to cause this plane to be flying over Rockaway. |

Subject: RE: BS: plane crash on New York From: Charley Noble Date: 12 Nov 01 - 02:44 PM There were at least two engine pieces shown on morning CNN in two different locations, one in front of a filling station (which did not start a major fire) and one which landed in a boat parked in a driveway and started a fire which did moderate damage to surrounding structures before it was put out. |

Area is still being treated as possible crime scene (investigators on scene). Major plane parts recovered from Jamaica Bay. Passenger manifest being checked to see if there are "lap children" in addition to 246 passengers and 9 crew. |

I heard a quote on tv just now that the neighborhood lost 74 souls on Sept. 11- and now this. I'm lighting a candle for all affected by this, and for those on land and sea and highway traveling everywhere. |

Subject: RE: BS: plane crash on New York From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 12 Nov 01 - 11:57 AM My wife and I were ready to head down to Queens to do some shopping and visit family when we got a call from my Brother-in-law. They are fine... they live in another seection of Queens. The tragic thing about all of this (and they believe it was an accident, unrelated to terrorists) is that so many people who live in the Rockaway section of Queens lost loved ones in the 9/11 attack. Mayor Giuliani said that he attended close to 20 funerals in the area which has now been hit by the crashed plane. We just returned from a flight to see my family in Wisconsin, and everything was quiet. We praise the Lord for that. The bridges have already been opened into New York, but I imagine the traffic is a mess. Jerry Rasmussen |

Subject: RE: BS: plane crash on New York From: Charlie Baum Date: 12 Nov 01 - 11:55 AM Geographic note: if you're trying to find the neighborhood into which the plane crashed, it's on the Rockaway Peninsula, which sticks out and separates Jamaica Bay from the Atlantic Ocean. The street numbers refered to in above posts are actually "Beach 129th Street," etc.--a separate numbering system from the street numbering system used elsewhere in Queens. --Charlie Baum |

Debris from in-air explosion is widely scattered. A house in the middle of impact area is reported still standing while others around it are levelled. Rescue workers reportedly have not been able to get to houses because of fires. FBI joining investigation. No reports of "congratulatory" communications overseas (terrorists not heard "high-fiving" each other over this). Little or no radio contact reported from plane before crash. |

An hour or so ago I heard on NPR that some 8-9 houses were on fire. |

The eyewitness stuff is all over the board and the only thing that seems to be consistent is that something was wrong in the air and from the TV reports it appears an engine has landed apart from the plane. All the airports are closed as are the bridges and tunnels. This may just be a terrible accident but no one is taking any chances. There is a plane flying overhead - must be the jet fighters patrolling again. Strange times. |

The plane crashed shortly after 9 a.m. and thick, black smoke could be seen in televised reports. The type of plane and number of people aboard were not immediately known. CNN reported that American Airlines confirmed the plane was an inbound American Airlines Boeing 767. The airline told The Associated Press it had no immediate comment.
