Well, my friend, there are exceptions to every rule. When I posted that, I lived alone in a house in the city. Now I live in the country, in a home that is constantly protected three huge dogs who are very loyal. Why don't you stop in for a visit while I'm gone?

I know you can't fit in everything but if you want to cross the pennines from Bills place Manchester is only about 40-50 miles away. Plenty of people, including me, could pick you up from Selby or Cleckhuddersfaxwicke or some other such Godforsaken Yorkshire place and then accomodate you in sunny Manchester...

I'm not sure if the commonwealth games are still on then but if they are you could see what you Yanks missed by deciding to sever links with the old country;-)

There are a couple of regular sessions not far from Micca's. On Thursday nights there is an Irish session in Stratford (10 minutes by bus from Micca's) where singers and players of music from other traditions are welcome. On Fridays I think there is a bluesey session not far away and on Saturday afternoon the blues singers have been seen playing in the bar of the Theatre Royal, Stratford. We can probably find more.

Liz and I are only 15 minutes walk from Micca's.

Try the Youth Hostel Association, I usually stay at Oxford Street YHA, expensive for a Youth Hostel, but cheap for London centre.

Most of the Hull 'Catters will be in Whitby for the Festival, Joe... as will lots of other UK 'Catters. Whitby Folk Week is one of the bigger Folk Festivals this side of the pond.

Joe, there may be a " Sharps in exile" on the Tuesday, as for some strange reason (Festivals etc I think) the EFDSS close Cecil Sharp House for the whole of August!!! and last year the Sharps FC moved to a pub!! if it does again (and the organiser has promised to let me know as soon as it is fixed) we can give that a try...

Well, I'm arriving mid-day on Monday, August 12, and Micca was very generous. So, I'll be staying at Micca's in London most of that week, possibly until I go to Whitby on Saturday, August 17. If there's music to be heard in the London area any night that week, I'm interested. I have to figure out a way to meet Liz somewhere in there, too.

Are any Mudcatters going to Whitby?

The week after Whitby, August 24-31, I'm trying to figure out how to meet up with Bill Sables and Ian C, and any other Catters I can encounter.

You UK folks are certainly nice. I'm overwhelmed by the generous offers of hospitality I've received. I'm looking forward to meeting you.

I do live in a picturesque village, it just happens it's called Walthamstow. Local sessions should still be going, though I'm not sure about the 'Hale end folk club@ the Rose and Crown' in Hoe Street. A bit of a session might not go amiss, eh?

I intend checking out some Irish music pubs around Camden and Holloway Road. Unclear about when Joe plans to visit London on his trip. If something is being organised for those dates I might try to get along.

I live in a pleasant rural village, with easy transport to central London. You'd be welcome to stay with us for a day or so - possibly on your way to London.

Thanks, everybody. I got a message from Micca and I'm going to spend some time with him. I'll try to work it out to visit you, too, Liz. I didn't realize that any Mudcatters actually lived in the London area. I thought they all lived miles away from public transportation in picturesque villages with sheep. [grin]

I'm going to be in the UK from August 11 to August 31, which I suppose is the time most tourists choose. I have lodging with Dick & Susan during Whitby Folk Week, August 17-23, but I'm looking for suggestions for what to do with the rest of my time there. The only other thing I have on my agenda is that I promised to visit Bill Sables. I imagine I'll look up some other Mudcatters along the way.

I'm plan to use public transportation to get around. I'm hoping to pick two or three places to stay and use for centers for exploration. I'd like ot spend as much as a week in London, buit I suppose that could be expensive. can anybody recommend lodging in London that might work for me?
