Subject: RE: BS: Kind thoughts needed for Bert's Dad From: open mike Date: 30 Jul 02 - 10:10 AM sounds like he is making good progress- these days there are amazing therapies available. my dad had a stroke 15 years ago-- which side was affected, do you know?' right side of brain = left side of body and visa versa... stroke can be caused by either a blockage of blood or an excess of blood to a part of the brain- hope they have determined the cause and have offerd treatment accordingly... if he is sitting up and eating that is good- sometimes swallowing is difficult. a Cardio Vascular Accident (CVA) on the left side may affect (effect?) the right limbs and speech. the right side may cause reaction in the left limbs and/or vision--hope he is recovering well. Kat says there is a tape of his music?? what type of music ?? I recently found an old 78 of my dad singing 60 years ago.. a special treasure because he was not able to speak or sing for the last 15 years. he passed away this spring. best wished for good re-hab and hope you find your way there soon. A friend of mine had a bad stroke a few years ago and when I went to see him in hospital he looked terrible, but now though he is paralysed down one side he has a full and rewarding life. It sounds as though he's doing better and that is certainly good news! Like kat, I remember well his singing and always have enjoyed your tales about him. Where is Stevensville? Around Niagra isn't it? If you can find a cheaper ticket to somewhere else you can probably get some 'Catter help for transport.....ie., If a flight is on some cheap special to Cleveland, Columbus, or Cincy, rather than Buffalo, I can run you up from any of them. Probably have no problem finding a willing 'Catter in Toronto....just a thought. Pat |

I just got news that, much to everyone's surprise, he is sitting up in bed and talking. And don't you know, I had just driven back to Colorado from Pennsylvania. If I had left it a day or two longer I'd have been able to drive up and visit him. He's in Stevensville, Ontario. Now I'm going to have to scrounge enough money for an air ticket.
